We have just returned from a week at the Port Ciutadella Hotel in Menorca. The hotel is excellent with very good facilities. The pool area is well maintained and is very peaceful as it is not a large hotel and there seemed to be plenty of sun beds. The staff are friendly... more

I would certainly recommend Port Cuitadella Hotel. We spent two weeks there and thoroughly enjoyed it, although the weather was a bit "iffy". The room/suite was excellent; the hotel itself not too big, i.e. big enough to get to know most people on a "good morning" basis; ... more

I couldn't disagree more with the last reviewer on this site. Have just returned from a fabulous break in the hotel. All the staff were absolutely delightful, despite the fact that neither myself nor my daughter speak any Spanish. The room, public rooms, food, bar,... more

I would not recommend this Hotel for a holiday in Menorca. I would suggest that this hotel specialises in making guests, other than those of Spanish origin, feel inferior. It does not appear to make any allowances for guests arriving or leaving at all times of day. We... more

One of the best!
This hotel is great! It has all the class without been snobey, which we have found in some other boutique hotels. The postion of the hotel could not be better, just on the outskirts of the city but within walking distance of just about everything it has to offer, fantastic restaurants and bars as well as alot of culture. The rooms are quite minimalistic, very nicely decorated with a flat screen tv over the bed, bathrooms have twin sinks and all have a jacuzzi jet bath. The rest of the hotel, like the rooms is modern. There is an excellent bar with tables looking over the sea and the staff are very friendly. The hotel also has a spa with gym, sauna, steam room, indoor pool and jacuzzi all free to the guests all you have to pay for are treatments which were not very expensive. Most of the time we were the only guests in the spa. As we did not have diner in the hotel we can not comment but if it is anything like the food at breakfast, it has to be excellent! All in all a fantistic stay will be back next year and every year for a few days!
Oasis of tranquility
This is a gem of a hotel if you are looking for a holiday outside of a typical tourist area. It is located on the outskirts of the old town of ciudadela overlooking a small sea inlet. There are a few small cafe/restaurants nearby but the main town is only a short 10 minute walk away. We booked bed and breakfast only but ended up eating 10 of the 14 nights in the hotel restaurant. The choice on offer was excellent given that it was only 14 euros a head. The hotel was smart and extremely clean. The staff were friendly and very efficient and the facilities first rate. As a wheelchair user I also found access in and around the hotel excellent.
well run hotel - pity about the restuarant
The hotel Port Ciutadella is a well run hotel with excellent, friendly staff, comfortable rooms and a good pool & other facilities. Sadly the evening meals are not of 4star quality. Some of the chicken dishes were under cooked and their idea of gaspacho would give an Andulician the horrors. Other wise the service in the restuarant at both Breakfast & Dinner, although buffet style, was excellent. The area to the west & behind the hotel has a series of about 10 or more building sites in varying states of construction. Whilst taxis are cheap & easy to obtain from the hotel reception, it is a long 15 - 20 minute walk to the town centre.
Good touring base
New Hotel, shiny around the edges but lacking the ambience of traditional holiday hotel.( Looks like its gunning for the business/conference/wedding trade ) Location good for those who don't rely solely on wheelchairs/taxis/mopeds (although the last 2 do abound in the vicinity) and dont mind walking to Ciutadella centre in about 15 mins. Pool is great though not ideal for the 18-30 punters as it's designed for the more young at heart. Saying that we enjoyed a good time poolside and I'm a positively athletic(I wish!!) 40+. Bedrooms good and Bathrooms great with fantastic maid service , (they dealt with my 16 year old and his best mate) without complaint (slip them 10 euros at the start of the week)!! Bar food good, and there are plenty of Restaurants and Bars in the vicinity. One good one we tried, used by the locals was Hostal Sa Prensa on the way to town via the Passeig Ciutadella .Hasta Luego!!
A little too clinical
The 4 star Port Ciutadella was opened at the beginning of 2006. It is in the SetH group and was obviously designed by a man! The rooms are set round the outdoor pool which is in the middle of the property and there are only 2 floors. We were upgraded to a suite (room no. 245) which overlooked the hotel entrance and the promenade of the inlet. The only difference to other hotel suites that we have experienced was that there was a large dressing room with a very large mirror. There was only one decent mirror for make up which was in the bathroom. The vanity unit in the bathroom had 2 washbasins but very little room for toilet bags or make up bag. There is a desk with mini bar under in one corner but no lighting or mirror. We had the usual problem we have come across in Spanish hotels before - scraping furniture on tiled floors at all times of day and night. Breakfast was very good with everything being refreshed regularly. Cooked, cold meat and cheese, fruits, juices, breads and sweet bread and cakes. We never ate in the restaurant in the evening because the lighting and atmosphere were just too much like breakfast time. Equally the lighting in the bar and lounge areas was very clinical and did not encourage guests to stay long especially if the television sound was turned up. The temperature fluctuated in the shower which should not have happened in a new hotel. There is a good indoor pool and selection of treatments on offer as well as a gym. The Port Ciutadella is in a good position for the old town with a lovely walk along the promenade where you will find a good selection of restaurants. (Fewer on Mondays). A good base to visit Menorca but only if you get a good deal.
Quiet and Comfortable
My wife and I stayed at the Port Ciutadella Hotel for a week in early Oct 2007. We stayed on a B&B basis and had a room on the first floor with a view across the promenade and the narrow sea inlet in front of the hotel. Being new the hotel is still in pristine condition, the decor is simple rather than ornate and gives off a minimalistic feeling.Furnishings and fittings are high standard and overall level of comfort is excellent. The building is rectangular consisting of two floors only which enclose a pleasant pool area fully decked all round and in addition has a sun deck at first floor level at two ends. This is an excellent facility and was generally very quiet and peacefull during our stay - bar and snack service is available. There is also an excellent spa facility with small indoor pool - free to residents plus additional treatments at a cost. Our room was superb with a luxury bathroom, two wash hand basins, spa bath etc, a walk in area to the wardrobe which served as a dressing room, a huge bed, a setee and chair, desk and chair, flat screen TV with BBC channels as well as Satellite and a balcony. I would recommed asking for an upstairs room as the ground floor rooms are right on the street and on two side have street views. The seaview will cost a bit more but whilst the sea view is not exactly stunning it is so much betterr than looking across a street. New building was going on around but we had no disturbance. The breakfast buffet was stunning with a vast array of all kinds of food to suit whatever breakfast type you wanted. Like all buffets the hot breakfast foods could suffer a bit from cooling down but generally they were excellent. We ate out 5 nights and there are plenty good restaurants in town and ate in 2 nights. The hotel evening buffet was plentiful with lots of variety but like most buffets lacking in real taste - at 14 Euros per head though it was great value and fine for a couple of nights when we were tired. The staff tended more to the helpfull and efficient rather than exceptionally friendly but that was fine - give me effciency before a smile any day - if you get both it's a bonus ! Overall an excellent htel with good failities and service - quiet area witha charming old town. Great for a relaxing holiday - we would use this hotel again
One to Watch!
Stayed at the Port Cuidadela Hotel with my wife and teenage son in late July, 2006. The hotel is new (opened April) and like a previous reviewer said is marble, chrome and well air-conditioned! It is buit on a cruise ship style which means the swimming pool .for example, is surrounded by decking rather than plants, concrete or grass. This was great. The swimming pool was warm at all times and exceptionally clean. Often, there was only 3 or 4 people n at any one time-many guests seem to drive out in hired cars for large parts of the day. There are pleny of sun beds unoccupied throughout the day but not so many umbrellas for shade-which can be a problem if temperatures remain in the 80's/90'sF. The hotel is relatively small (90 rooms) and set on 2 floors with the dining room surprisingly below ground level! We had a double and singe room both with sea views but I shouldn't have liked any of the rooms looking out over the two non-sea-ward sides (Book a sea view room!) The sea is only an inlet but leads to two small beaches where locals and tourists can bathe in clear med. water under the watch of a lifeguard. (only about 20 on these beaches-so fairly quiet) The Games' room was great -only us in it to play pool, table football etc.) You can walk into the town by cutting through lstreets of local appartments (10mins) or via the promenade (20 mins). The old town is a warren of tiny streets containing small bars, cafes, shops and restaurants. These streets all tend to lead to a series of 6 squares (all containing cafes/restaurants or pasteries)leading off the Carrer de Born. The buses run from Place des Pins to all local destinations. We found the Vida Bar great for a cocktail at night or a coffee whilst waiting for a bus. Buses to local resorts run very regularly until midnight or so. We ate our breakfast at the buffet in hotel which was OK but some items do run out. There was assorted German, French, Spanish and English fayre on offer. Always clean. At night , we ate out either down by the Marina ( around 10 restaurants here) or in the old town (arounbd 10 restauarnst here) or in one of the many squares. We particularly liked Ariora (Place de Palmeras), La Roma (Old Town) and El Bribon (Marina) We went with Thomsons and they no longer have reps in attendance-you have to ring to get them to visit. This was a pain as we had to telephone on four occassions to sort out trips and the arrange a time to wait for him-often when he had finished business in other resorts. Trips to Fornells , Mount Tore and Cala Sant Caldana was good-our trip to the East of the islands was cancelled by Thomsons the night before! Resort is not too touristy and many shop keepers only speak pigeon English-so brush up on key spanish words. However, all the restaurants had English version menus. Watch ou for Sundays-many smaller shops, restaurants, cafes remian closed. All in all- a very good holiday with fantastic weather and a very good hotel whose poularity will increase next year when it becomes more stablished with tour operators. Resort was safe and suited us-perhaps it would not suit younger families (ie there is no organised clubs , games or activities-more of a relaxing adult/young couple /retired couple kind of place)
Very Comfortable
I and my partner have just spent 2 weeks at this hotel. This is a modern new hotel situated next to a sea inlet with a short 10/15 minute walk via a residential area into the town of Ciutadella. There is a more scenic route via a coastal walk way but takes 15/20 mins (Well worth it though!!) The hotel has building work on 2 sides, one of which is a long way off being finished. However, this did not impact at all on our break. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and was always of good quality. Evening meal was good but sometimes lack imagination and labels to tell you what the food was! but it was enjoyable. Staff we’re great as well1! I would suggest you use the hotel for evening meals occasionally but plan to eat in the town. Try ‘des ports’ in the harbor. A little more expensive than the others but worth the treat!! Bar snacks are very good and the service in the bar by the 2 staff was excellent!! On the negative side some of the reception staff need hospitality lessons. Their commitment is not what you would expect in a 4 star hotel! But don’t let this put you off as the rest of the staff are excellent. You won’t have to look far for a smile! Rooms are very good but the sea view promised is not what I expected. If you can, get a first floor room as the views are better. They have evening entertainment every other night, in the main it is good. However, it can be a little uncomfortable as very few guest’s stay in the hotel at night as the bar closes at midnight. Over all this a good hotel and if you fancy a trip to the beautiful town of Ciutadella then this hotel should be on your list!
A comfortable retreat
We have just spent a week here and would definitely recommend it. We had a comfortable room with a nice view across the sea inlet, super efficient air conditioning, hydromassage in the bath and a plasma screen TV on the wall (which had BBC1 and BBC2 available - an unusual bonus). The situation of the hotel means that it picks up breezes even when the town gets stifling. If you are into jogging or cycling there is a lovely wide seaside walkway all the way into the old town (the scenic route). The less scenic route is a much shorter one - about 10 minutes walk. The general area is not particularly beautiful, but neither is it ugly. The hotel itself is very stylish; lots of chrome and marble. We loved sitting out on the terrace at the front having a coffee or a drink. The swimming pool, although it looked as though it might be hot because it's in the centre of the hotel, in fact got just as many breezes as everywhere else and was delightful. There is a nice kiddies pool. I think the two sunlounges above it might be a bit airless though. With the exception of the two bar staff, who were absolutely fabulous, the other staff seemed cool and were not always very efficient. There was only one serious mistake however (over a parcel I was expecting and which they assured me hadn't been delivered - after making several anxious phonecalls I discovered it had been behind the desk for ages after all). But this may be because they are all still learning to work together- the hotel only opened two months ago after all. Food was copious in quantity but not always very good on quality. We only had breakfast and barsnacks but didn't feel confident enough to try out dinner. (Go to Roca de Palau in the Carrer des Palau in the old town)
Stylish new hotel in Cuitadela
My husband and I have just returned from a one week stay at the Hotel Port Cuitadella in Menorca. This is a new medium-sized hotel that has only been open since mid-April. We found it to be extremely modern and stylish with very helpful and friendly staff. It is a 10 minute walk into the centre of Cuitadella. Although it does not have sea views, the hotel faces a narrow sea inlet and has pleasant views towards Platja Gran 'beach' (very small!). It was not warm enough in early May for us to use the hotel pool, but it looked lovely. The breakfasts were good with a wide selection - but we would advise going early to get the best and freshest choice! There is some further development (new apartments etc being built) taking place close to the hotel, but this did not in anyway impact negatively on our stay. Cuitadella is not really a beach holiday destination, but has a lovely old town and harbour area with plenty of shops and restaurants. I would recommend it as a place to stay for a short, relaxing break. It is easy (and cheap) to visit Mahon, Cala Galdana etc using the local bus service. If you are prepared to go early in the season, there are some very good deals available.
