We stopped at the lucana on an all inclusive basis for the first time in nov 2009 but are booking again for 2010, it is a really first class hotel, situated in a quiet spot for a relaxing holiday, the food is excellent and with a varied choice, the room and the hotel were very clean, and the surrounding area has plenty of shops and a very good beach,we are only giving a rating of 9 because there is always room for inprovment, the staff were very pleasent and friendly and the wheather was hot and sunny all week, alltogether a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

If you are looking for an All Inclusive Hotel then you really do have to try this hotel. I read alot of reviews before we left but this is an amazing hotel and I am so glad the reviews didnt put me off booking it.
The rooms are a reasonable size, towels, robes and hairdryer provided. Rooms cleaned everyday and none of my stuff ever went missing and I left my phone around more than once!
Location was perfect. 5 mins walk to the beach, 5 mins to the shops but there is a mini market 30 secs away and the alcohol is very cheap in there. We stocked up the fridge with alcohol but didnt drink any of it as we got wise to the AI.
The pool is massive. It is cleaned at 7.30 every morn and the rest of the hotel is cleaned everyday and is always spotless. The staff are very friendly and helpfull. You can book all your excursions at the hotel aswell and they will tell you the best way to get there etc. The bus stop is about 2 mins away and not that expensive at all.
The entertainment of an evening isnt great but the guy who does it "Gerardo" is fantastic. He has so much energy and you cant help but laugh with him. He is fantastic with the kids during the day and theres always things going on.
We met some amazing people at this hotel and yes ok theres alot of germans but there was actually alot of english people aswell. And we all stuck together and took full advantage of the AI. Even though it stops at 10 you just stock up before 10 and make sure you have a table full of drinks!
Anyone who can complain about the food I have one question... where do you go to eat???
Yes the breakfast is repeated, but you get a fry up, then a selection of breads for toast, cereals etc. So if you dont want the same food, have something different everyday maybe???
Pool snacks are only hot dogs, and cheese and ham toasties but you will be so full up after breakfast you wont need it! Lunch consists of salads, cold meats, hot meats and same for dinner, You usually get a fish everyday, a grilled meat, a roast meat and a meat in sauce along with other stuff. The only thing that are served everyday are chips and rice. and they cook every meat going including duck and rabbit! The puddings are out of this world and the best lunch was when they should you how to cook paella and then served for lunch! You really should check it out for yourselves. I have been back 24 hours and already looking to go again!
Not great night life but if you want a night out go to the plaza and do the pub crawls... the are brilliant!

After reading some of the reviews we were a little worried,we were right to be so.In a nut shell.
Drinks No rose wine! White wine i could only drink if i added soda my husband managed to dink it though, Red wine not even my hubby (builder) could sip that.Vodka and tonics and the local beer were fine so we tended to stick to those.
Food Breakfast cold baked beans, bacon that was sat in brine, snotty looking eggs, and solid scrambled eggs.On a plus you could make your own toast so at least that was hot also the coffee was hot and quite drinkable.Lunch and evening meal times the menus sounded good, and indeed the soups were hot and tastefull but alas all other food we found luke warm and unedable, the sweets were not to bad but the same every day.The so called snack bar by the pool was none existent, dried up sandwiches, hard rolls and dodgy looking cold meat. The Lucana Hotel is definatly a hotel geared up for the Germans and not the British. The Hotels evening entertainment was a Spanish duo wailing i mean singing and playing the sax ocasionaly,we tended to play cards in the foyer most nights. The foyer by the way has a very nice decor and is spotlastly clean as is the resturant and bedrooms. The pool is also cleaned daily. On reading this review we sound quite fussy and hard to please but really were not we paid for a four star hotel but would rate the Lucana a three star and thats for the cleanlness.Wish we had taken note of the reviews we read befor we had booked this hotel.

I have just returned home from this hotel, in which we spent two weeks, we were 2 couples aged around 30.
On arrival (2am) we were impressed by the look of the hotel from the outside as the taxi pulled up, and again we were impressed when we entered the reception lobby area which was air conditioned.
We were shown to our rooms and offered water on arrival (hotel website states water and sparling wine, but hey once you have tasted their wine i wont moan too much about not getting any on arrival)
The rooms were very small, but did have everything that was required and they were clean. THAT IS WHERE ALL THE COMPLIMENTS END AND OUR NIGHTMARE HOLIDAY STARTED.
The food in this hotel was absolutley atrocious, If some thing was not eaten at the evening meal (this happened often as they didnt seem to know how to cook meat, nor did they know what it was, if you asked they just said " this is very good meat") it would then appear the next night in a casserole or something similar. After 3 days giving the restaurant a chance we decided that , and after 2 of us ended up with the trots and stomach cramps we decided to go out for meals as we did not want to be ill for the rest of our holiday.
Breakfast was just as bad, cold egg, diced bacon which was also cold and no sausages, there were some tiny coctail style hot dog things once or twich but these were sat in water and were cold and shrivelled up. ALSO best avoided.
Lunch was terrible as well, ok if you like chips for every meal.
AVOID the www.youtravel.com rep named Gina, she is just as un helpful and rude as the hotel staff. Our complaints with her began with the "Free massage offered to every client from now on) which she claims was an error by the hotel, but this was on our booking form on their website so i hold them responsible, we were told it was nothing to her and to speak to the hotel reception ( luckily we had printed the page off of the youtravel.com website as she denied all knowledge)
The hotel reception said, free massage only available January, Febuary, March , April, May June and July, NOT August, how convinient, as this was the deciding factor we chose this hotel over many others. The reception then told us to see Gina the rep again which we did, and she very impatiently said she would speak to the hotel manager when she realised we were not going to give in.
Eventually we were given a coupon to take to the massage lady, the shortest massage they offered was 30 minuts, although our lasted just ten minutes, which was obvious they only did this to shut us up, was more like a quick rub than a massage. but us been english and not wanting to kick up a fuss we didnt say anything.
We then felt it necessary to complain as they was only 1 member of staff at the AI hotel pool bar, after waiting 30-40 minutes to be served we went to reception to ask why they only had 1 person serving who kept dissappearing. Only to be told that they knew of the problem and to come back and see the manager about this on Monday @ 0900. this was a Thursday so i thought this was ridiculous, the hotel staff were really unhelpful, especially some lady who did not wear a uniform who thought she owned the place, i am sure she must have been the managers mistress as someone so unhelpful and rude could not possibly be working there on her merits in a proffesional capacity as she had the customer service skills of a newt. so maybe she had a hidden talent that only the manager could see.
One evening i went to the lounge bar at 2135 and waited to be served until 2155 (all inclusive finishes at 2200) I was half way through getting our drinks, the waiter (bar manager) looked at his watch and said, no more drinks now its 2200. i complined but he would not budge and insited i must pay for the rest of the drinks, and was told to see the manager, who again was not on site and was told h was not in the hotel again for a few days and to come back on Monday to complain, which incidently was our last day so was absolutely pointless.
The hotel staffs only words they said to anybody who was english was "this is not possible" and when we compalined were told to see the manager who was never there.
I was quite glad that we were not the only people who were complaing, in fact as we went on through our 2 week stay it became apparent that everone was unhappy and complaining about the same issues. Three other couples we met had been offered the massage at the time of booking but were told the same as us, but they didnt get a massage, we only got this as we persited and made it obvious that the only answer we would settle for regarding the massage was yes.
MY ADVICE
If you are thinking of booking this Hotel DONT
If you have booked it and can cancel or change it DO SO if you want to enjoy yor holiday.
If you have the displeasure of meeting GINA the www.youtravel.com rep be persitant, she is well aware of the problems you will face but she will make out you are the first person to complain, youtravel.com obviously dont vet their staff very well and dont really care about their customers.
Be persistant if there is a problem as the staff will try not help.
On a posistive point, the cleaners were very nice and helpful and did a really good job.
the entertainment was the same every night and is best avoided, an old man pretending to play the keyboard, but actually the music is playing from a disk. Then a younger big breasted lady who just stood on stage shaking her "Tick Tacks" and smiling as people passed by, mostly leaving the entertainment lounge. Apparently these amateurs hve been at this hotel for 5 years, they do a very good job of clearing the bar area and saving the hotel a fourtune on drinks.
and finally, i dont know how this hotel is rated as a 4 star, its should be a 3 star, my advice, stay somewhere else recommended by a proper travel company, like thomas cook, or thompson etc as the hotel IFA continental across the road was a 3 star and had much better entertainment, and there staff were much more friendly and helpful we could have stayed there but opted for the 4 star instead, dont be fooled by this hotels star rating, it ruined our holiday
DONT GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY.

myself my husband daughter aged 8yrs and son 11yr have just come back from the hotel lucana.the rooms were lovely very clean, but far to small for a family of four ,four beds pushed together with no room to walk round.we were moved after a couple of days to a much larger room which was fab.(there are only four of these rooms in the whole hotel).all the meals were great (we were all inclusive).my children loved the day time animation darts archery table tennis shooting and were given medals for 1st 2nd and 3rd place in the evenings.the evening entertainment wasn,t up to much a father and daughter band al enclusive finished at 10pm every night. we were able to get sunbeds everyday which was great because it was hi season.on our day of departure our all enclusive wrist bands were cut off and we had to buy all our food and drinks until we left the hotel at 9pm.we have been to all inclusive hotels many times before and this has never happened before so for this reason only we wouldn,t return there again

We booked 2 days prior to our arrival on an all inclusive basis. We booked independently through Travel Republic and booked the flights seperately through XL.
Our party consisted of 2 adults and 2 children, aged 3 and 5 years.
We arrived at around 10.30pm and were greeted by a pleasant receptionist. We were checked in promptly and informed that there was some bottled water in the room ready for us. We were also welcome to collect some more from the bar if required.
The room was very spacious - it included a room with 2 single beds, a spacious wardrobe, television unit including minifridge and telephone. Their were limited channels on the television and a deposit of 10 euros was required for the remote. Air conditioning/heating was provided although you needed to put your room card into the slot in the wall to activate both the air con/heating and the power. We used a library card so we were able to leave it on while we were out, although we were careful not to do this until after breakfast because the cleaning staff had been then!!
The bathroom was 4 piece - sink, WC, bidet and walk in shower. Bath robes were provided as were bathroom and pool towels along with a complimentary toiletries basket.
Back in the bedroom we opened the sliding doors into another room which included 2 single beds, a sofa, 2 chairs and a coffee table.
The accommodation was very spacious and impeccably clean.
The maids even left our children some pringles and a little welcome note written in English!!
The meals were great, hot and with plenty of variey - even for the children and the dining staff went out of their way to be friendly to us. My children made the effort to speak some spanish and this was obviously appreciated!
The entertainment was okay - not great but super friendly people who made a huge fuss of my children so they enjoyed it.
It did sometimes take a little while (certainly not excessive) to get served at the bar but hey we're chillin on holiday not a problem!
Yes people did reserve sunbeds but we managed to find 4 without much problem every day so not too bad.
The pool areas/gym/spa were all great - again super clean!! There were always members of staff cleaning at all times!!!
I wouldn't really recommend the hotel if you wanted a busy entertainment schedule but if you just wanted a relaxing chill out it is ideal.
We were certainly a minority being english and there was one particular member of staff that we had a problem with but it didn't spoil the holiday by any means and was easily sorted.
The other european guests were very friendly and made an effort to interact with us.
The location is nice - close to the beach and a lovely promenade to walk along to places like San Agustin and Maspalomas Sand Dunes.
All in all a nice hotel to have a relaxing break in.

Although the hotel was clean and tidy. We had a lovely view of the pool. Albeit down in the basement. The staff were rude and unhelpful.
I went on an all inclusive package. The bar service was extremely slow. I could be at the bar 10 - 15 minutes before I would be served and certainly without so much as a smile. Unless you were European and over 60 and you would be served first.
The alcoholic drinks lacked alcohol unless the 'all inclusive' package had run out at 10 o'clock and then you were paying again.
The clients were mainly European and ignorant. I did feel like I had two heads.
The sunbeds had towels on them from 9am in the morning although they were not used until late afternoon. So to sunbathe was virtually impossible.
The food was poor with very little variety. If it wasn't all eaten the previous mealtime, it was produced at the next meal.
We were asked to leave the restaurant dead on time, not even having time to finish our drinks. Wine, beer and soft drinks were supplied but were taken away an hour before the restaurant closed.
The cooked breakfasts were cold - comprising of cold fried eggs, luke warm beans and oily diced ham/bacon.
The entertainment was poor.
This hotel is not suitable for ANY British clients and I would advise you to stay well clear.
We spoke to quite a few British clients and they felt exactly the same.
If I sound bitter - It's because I am. They treated me like a second class citizen. They took my money and then didn't care less.

The lobby sets the mood, tired but pleasant furnishings, quiet, with unflappable aloof staff, bright enough area but something missing.
Key staff have been there for years and are all seeing and all knowing, but will only give if prompted, which includes smiling.
The rooms are on the small side and despite the no smoking signs have a definite odour of eau de tabacco about them. Dark wood furniture and big wardrobes with stiff firm beds which are just right for the aging clientele.
Bathroom tiling very old fashioned. So although quite clean the rooms have that certain tiredness that only modernization and neutral refurbishment can put right. The rooms have a double door which keeps noise from the corridors down to a minimum.
Views are good if you are looking to the left to the sand dunes and Playa Del Ingles beach or right up the coast line. The view straight ahead is obstructed by a large hotel. But you can see, hear and feel the sea air.
The dunes change in different lights and times of day but your room would need to be high enough to see this. Close by is a delightful secluded bay for protected sea swimming with rocks high enough to break most of the wind. The Tropical Centre is close by.
Entertainment very sad unless you like the oompapa accordion German like music covers, but it's pleasant enough for the older clientele to enjoy. The bar area is attractive.
Breakfast area is dark and I don't like cold eggs whichever way they are cooked. Bacon was served diced which I did not like either. Cold beans. No hot sausages. Toaster was useless. Yoghurt was good and the only thing I could eat. Bread was fresh. Fruit was either under ripe or with eyes and holes.
Main Restaurant: Food was well presented in terms of how it looked, but not always the freshest if you picked dishes that included food that was on menu night before - eg potato salad made from last nights hot potatoes tasted very funny. Good choice of food but it was tiresome picking a little of everything to try and find a fresh well cooked choice. Green bananas give you a bad tummy. Funny casserole type dishes needed to be avoided re lack of freshness and texture of overcooked veg and meats used.
I would not go to this hotel again. It is an independent and so the usual drunken English crowds are not welcome nor found, which is refreshing but the alternative elderly Europeans were boring and not friendly enough and their was no pazzazz about the place. Tired Tired Tired.

We went to hotel lucana for 5 nights over christmas & had a grat time. The only bad thing i would say is that room 116 which is a family room wasn't great. we are a family of 2 adults, a 16 year old & a 10 year old, it was very big room with 2 bedrooms but no balcony. My main complaint was the noise, there is a loud high pitch noise that goes on all night and all day it comes from outside the room from like a generator which is above the room, it became so annoying that after 2 nights i asked to change, which they did to a much smaller room with a balcony, they just took out a table & chairs & put 2 beds in which made it very small but compared to the noise it was so much better. The food was great we went half board but you still get free drinks with your evening meal, there is every type of food you could want & on christmas day there was a gala dinner with wine at your table it was done very nicely & food was great. There is a heated pool which was good for my son he spent 2-3 hours in it every day & they also did aquafit in it which was good fun. The evening entertainment wasn't brilliant just some music & bingo, but it not far to walk into town where there are plenty of bars & restaurants. I would definately go back to this hotel.
