Jardin del dorado not great!
from moz29
We stayed at Jardin del Dorado in December and we have been generally disppointed with the hotel. The location is not great, you will need a car to get around. the rooms are basic and clean but are a bit old looking. The food is average but nothing special and the animation is just dead!!! There is nothing around to go out to without a car. I have got to mention though, to be fair, that Paco the singer of the hotel saved our night on christmas with his great spanish carols feliz navidad!! The beach in playa ingles is not great but we drove to puerto mogan almost every day (20 mn) which is amazing and to anfi del mar (its an hotel but you can access the beach wich is just amazing, palms and white sandy beach).

Very Quiet - very clean
from Mrs_Gannon
My husband and I have just returned and the place is very much as previous reviews. Very clean, maid service (mopping, bins etc) daily excpt Sundays, including clean towels every other day. Excellent pool and surrounding area/gardens - very well kept and the kids pool and smaller swimming pool are heated - so be careful to choose the right one :0 The large pool can be chilly. The place is very quiet with only the noise of the birds twittering - the pool side bar stops any music being played approx 23.00hrs for guests wishing to sleep - the resident singer is also excellent. There were very few children, most guests being older and respectful of everyones privacy - mainly German and Dutch. The night receptionist who welcomed us, well after midnight on arrival was great, polite and organised, and obviously wanting to improve his spoken English he was friendly and chatty. The bungalow was a little dated but everything worked, full bathroom with shower; plenty hot water; don't bother paying the extra for the TV - there were no English speaking channels and you always have the radio; small rear yard for drying towels and sitting in to catch the last of the sun; patio area to the front with table and chairs. Round and about; give Mogan a miss - def visit Puerto Mogan though its lovely;Playa Del Ingles - like Blackpool. For Tapas try Bandera in CC Boulevard Oasis - in front of the Grand Casino;Tex Mex opposite the bungalows is also good value for money with great service - try out your conversational German on the waiter - mit Vergnügen! Give Faro II a miss - the place is full of restaurants but you can find much better ones in Maspalomas (its worth the walk or taxi ride - honest!). We tried a steak house on the first floor - but left as the service was so slow; tried another steak house (I was really looking forward to a nice steak) on the ground floor, should have realised something was not right as they were packing folks in, waited for our meal, my steak was sent back as was not cooked as requested - felt like we had to eat in haste and move on to make room for other diners. The pizzas at Piz Paz are ok. If you just want a relaxing holiday - reading a book and dipping in and out of the pool - this could be the place for you.
Very quiet and relaxing, good value for money
from Jobey
This is the second time we have stayed here and it is a perfect, good value location if what you want is a nice pool and quiet accomodation. You can walk to the beach (although it is around 40 mins) or get a cab to Playa de Ingles for about £3.00. The bungalows are pretty and set in nice grounds but they are a little shabby, so if you like your doors to shut and a well provided kitchen, this may not be the place for you, but if you want a cheap stay in a nice, quiet, pretty location, then it's well worth a visit. We didn't rate the food, but there are good places to eat nearby (particularly in Maspalomas on the beach) and also Faro 2 shopping centre is near so knocking up the odd meal yourself is easy.
Relaxing and ideal for mature couple
from suyoung
Hi I went there for X-mas 2005 for a week with my bf In general i had a good time there but there were a few downfalls as wel..I'd briefly review the bungalow.. Sorry about my english.. 1. the bungalow it's very pretty and quiet. one big swimming pool is kept clean and nice.. we relaxed all day for a few days.. but it's not ideal for family with young kids..it could be boring because there's not much to do other than chilling out by the pool.. 2. Staffs.. they are not that friendly and don't speak good english.. because most of the tourists there are germans..One thing I'm very surprised with is that they don't clean the room two days a week!! we couldn't get fresh and dry towel one day.. :-( 3. Location.. there're plenty of taxis and it's cheap.but for bus you have to walk about 20 minutes for the bus stop... it's quite isolated from other places and not much going on around.. but if you intend to play golf at the golf field next door, this is the perfect location.. To Maspalomas beach, it takes about 20~30 minutes on foot.. Supermarket is about 15 minutes away from the bungalow. In general i think it was good value and nice place to relax but I only recommend to mature couple who want to relax.. it's not very vibrant or fun for young couple or children.. actually there're many retired people staying there for long-term...

Great to relax, Great for Value

We stayed at the Bungalows Jardin Dorado in September 2005. The Bungalow Complex is set within the surroundings of the Maspalomas Golf Course. The Complex is planned on three circles of bungalows encircling the beautiful swimming pool and reception/restaurant area. You will not have any problems finding your Bungalow, as reception will give you a basic map on arrival. The taxi ride to the complex from Gran Canaria Airport is approx. £32 - £35 each way. Book your return taxi with reception. Don't get ripped off at the airport - Warning! - Some taxi drivers will not set there meter, ensure they do! If not the £35, could be £55! The complex has a small, if not a touch expensive, supermarket by the side of the reception. There is a steep slope, not good for wheelchairs! The reception is friendly and all speak good english. The swimming pool and the grounds are immaculatly clean and tidy and the setting is typically sub-tropical with hibiscus and canary palms. The whole area is full off parakeets and colourful birds. There is a childrens play area, child friendly pool and a small snack hut and bar by the pool. Drinks are reasonable for a complex, a beer will set you back approx. 1.5 Euros, Coffee 1.5 Euros. The Bungalows are very clean and cleaned every day on average with one day off, generally Wednesday or Sunday. All your linen and towels are provided and all kitchen plates and crockery are available. There is a lounge, kitchen area, utility space, bedroom (twin) and an adequate bathroom with bath and shower. Very clean. Outside you have your own garden area front, back and side with cactus (beware!). On the outside patio you will have chairs, table and parasol. Overall the complex is well maintained and clean with attention paid to the upkeep of the gardens and bungalows. All be it, although lit at night, the walkways between the Bungalows are a little uneven and not level. This may be hazardous if you're bad on your feet! A steady 25 minutes stroll to the Maspalomas beach, however, taxis are very frequent all day and night outside the gates. To the beach approx 2euros. Overall, perfectly relaxing, quiet and good value. The complex is mainly visited by Spanish, Germans and Italians. No problems, everyone is friendly and keep themselves to themselves. You will have a lovely holiday at great value. The expense is the taxi, however, car hire is reasonable from airport.

We stayed at Jardin Dorado Bungalows between 26/5/2005 and 6/6/2005 as a family of 3 and had good weather and plenty of fun outside of the hotel. We arrived at 23.30 and was greeted by a night receptionist who spoke very little English and had great trouble in making him understand our reservation number receiced via e-mail, however we finally got there and was given a very poor map to help us find our bungalow in the poorly light grounds and was offered no help to carry our three cases and two sets of golf clubs. The reception had no leaflets or tourist guides in english they were all in german as 90% of guests would appear to be german with some spanish guests. We got our tourist leaflets from Las Vegas hotel reception across road. The snack menu by the pool was in german or spanish only no english menu and the staff found it hard to explain the dishes. The paved areas around the bungalows were poorly maintained as were the garden areas and had cracked slabs and pot holes beware especially at night time when lighting is poor. The pool area was very quiet as was the hotel itself and the pool was fairly clean although it always appeared untidy as the sun longers were never tidied at night just left where they were. There were no parasols to shade under. The bungalows themselves were ok although I must point out there is only air conditioning and very very loud too in the bedroom, the lounge area where third bed area is gets very hot indeed as no air conditioning. The kitchen is well equiped although there was no kettle just a coffee maker and no microwave. The bathroom was spacious and clean. We had a garden at the rear of approx 20 foot by 10 foot which was shaded in palm trees which needed cutting. Across the road from the bungalows is Maspalomas tennis centre with a nice restaurant serving pizzas, pasta and meat dishes. We had booked half board but by the end of our first week were going out for evening dinner I would not recommend the food very poor unless you are a fish lover ! certainly not catering for children. The hotel does advertise entertainment and kids club but never saw any entertainment or kids club the hotel at night is dead not even anyone having a drink by the poorly light bar area after there meal.As for the indoor bar never saw anyone here think it was closed. The supermarket was ok opem 8 until only 16.00 and closed on a Sundays so beware if arriving late Saturday or Sunday. The only saving grace for us being golfers was the distance to golf course some 800 yards and how little we paid for holiday just over 450 pounds for 11 days we would not return to Jardin Dorado it does not cater for families or english speaking guests.
Great place to stay
from jancon
This site is a really great place to stay. You would find it difficult to stay anywhere as clean and attractive as this in the many "bungalow" sites around Maspalomas. The English do not appear to have found this yet, as it is mainly visited by Germans and Spanish families for long week-ends. We have actually stayed there now a total of 6 times over the last 5 years and are returning again in June 2005 for another 2 weeks. If its a quiet relaxing holiday, with shops and restuarants a 10 minute walk away then this is the place. Never a problem with sun beds and your bungalow will be cleaned to a high standard each day. There is a nice pool side bar where you can obtain snacks at lunch time. The bungalows are adequately furnished and the routine maintenance means they are kept up to a good standard. You do have to pay for TV and for the safe which is located in bedroom wardrobe, but that is the normal. Go and have a treat. The pool is wonderful, one large and smaller. (smaller heater during winter). We book direct with hotel and their English is really good. Enjoy. Jan from Solihull, England.
Quiet bungalows on the edge of the golf course
from Bikeboyz
We stayed here in April 2005. The site is situated in Campo de Golf area, and the bunglows are on the edge of the golf course. Its a quiet area, with the bungalows led out in a circular fashion around the pool. The bungalows have their own patio and rear utility area (so hence front and back doors). Our apartment was on the outer ring with views of the golf. Inside we had twin beds in the bedroom and air conditioning, which worked if not a little noisy. The bathroom had full sized bath and shower, but the electrical water heater could not produce enough hot water for a full bath, but fine for showers. The bathroom was a little tired looking, but not the end of the world, as it was very clean. The kitchen had a stainless steel 4 ring hob, and an oven (which didn't work and was never repaired). An electric coffee maker which was new, was provided. The lounge had a small tv which to use required a key, and a clock radio all in German, with only 5 preset stations and was basically rubbish. Most of the guests were German tourists through Thomson TUI, although we booked privately via hotels. The secuirty of the site was excellent with CCTV monitored car park and entrance gates, were felt safe parking our hire car here. Internet access was 1 euro for 12 minutes, and it seemed a reasonable broadband speed. The pool area was nice, clean and big. A bar served drinks and basic snacks during the day, and there was also very nice Ice Cream vending and drinks vending too (incase you'd run out of tonic for the gin at night!). The gardens and hedges all seemed to be well maintained, and the overall appearance very nice. We weren't too worried about the dodgy oven as it was unexpected to have anyway, although more effort to put it right would of been better. I would stay here again.
