Nothing to do in the evening
from SunshineSeeker19
We booked this hotel on teletext website for a cheap deal as we were saving up to go to Florida the following year. We arrived at the hotel and were a little disappointed with the surrounding area as there was not a lot close by (we later found that a better resort for shops and beaches is Jandia). We went to reception and had to wait for ages until they found our room (I was a little apprehensive that they would say we weren't staying there) but luckily they found our name. It then took us ages to find our room but when we eventually found it we saw a simple but satisfactory room. The hotel catered mainly for French and Germans, we were the only English family at the hotel apart from an elderly couple we didn't meet until our last night. For breakfast you could expect a selection of mixed veg, chips, cakes, fruit and eggs, some of this is not what you expect. The fod was always the same really but substantial. The pools were good and the daytimes were enjoyable enough, though in the evening there was no entertainment at all and there was nowhere close by to go either. If you chose this hotel you would have a pleasant time but not really for you if you like entertainment.
Entertainment non existent

stayed at the hotel Drago Park in July 2007, the food generally was okay if you like carrots and butterbeans and chips for breakfast!!!! the pool and rooms were loveley. We had two teenage boys with us and unfortunately there was absolutely no entertainment for them, or for us, there is a kiddies disco for about 1 hour in the evening and a game of bingo, no activities on at all during the day, and the only music you can hear is on the room radio system, there is a terrace bar which seems to be where all the social gathering goes on, we were 4 of about 20 Brits staying at the hotel, this is a mainly German resort, and the Brits sat on the terrace until the lights went out, which we discovered was as soon as the last of the Germans left the terrace, there is one bar in the area but never open.there is a market which only sold 4 items, sunglasses, bags, belts and watches. We had to hire a car and travel 100km so the boys could go to the water park and have a bit of fun. if you are staying here take plenty of board games with you!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great holiday

My wife managed to book a late deal holiday at this hotel for our family which includes two boys under six. We had a short period of time to secure the booking and after looking at the comments on this site nearly turned it down. I would like to say that we were very pleased we decided to book the holiday. There is an old saying you get what you pay for and I didnt expect to be staying at the ritz for £870.00, but what I did expect is a comfortable clean hotel with edible food and we were not dissapointed We arrived at the Hotel at midnight and the staff were extremely helpful and courteous they had even saved us a meal, we were too tired to eat and had drinks instead. All the rooms at the hotel overlook the pool and are spacious but more importantly very clean, in fact during our stay the rooms were cleaned to a high standard every day. The food was fine and there was always something on the menu which we enjoyed, people have posted that there was nothing for the children to eat, if your children eat chicken nuggets , fish fingers and pizzas then yes they will be dissapointed. There was beer, wine , soft drinks and locally produced spirits available all day free to A inc , you could also purchase branded spirits if you wished , for approx 2 euros you could buy a huge shot of single malt ! The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from the beach,if you prefer not to walk ,you can obtain free bus passes from reception to the beach. The bus runs every hour we used it several times . The hotel has an entertainer ( animator ) who organises water polo and volleyball and also the childrens and adult entertainment, he was a great guy. The hotel is about a 50 min drive from the airport and you may as well hire a car, as we did , for the transfer fees are about the same price . As you leave the airport follow the signs for Morro Jable as Costa Calma isnt signposted until you are virtually there. If you have children pay a visit to the oasis park zoo approx 7km away from the hotel( back on the airport road) they will love it! And enjoy your holiday!!
all ok

after reading other review we were a little worried about are stay here, but on arrival with were given a room down by the pool which was nice but not what i need as it everyone staying one room( 2 adults 2 kids) the hotel itself is set up away from costa calma and if we hadnt hadnt hired a car for a week it would of been not a great postion as the beach is about 25 mins walk, appently there was a beach bus but i never saw it, the food was ok i allways found something to eat, but the kids struggled because there is nothing for them, the drinks were good as there were self service for beer and soft drinks which takes out most of the queing, but should u want sprits there was a que, there is a kkids club which seemed to be good and a kids disco every night, in the day not alot goes on in the hotel but i played water polo and there was football aswell, the hotel is not very well designed for instants they have tiles all round which get boiling hot and the kids cant walk on them, theres no pool bas as such the only beach is in the lunch room( not far form the pool) overall i would say we got vaule for money but wouldnt stay there again.
Value for money!

We stayed at the hotel in January 2007. I would say that the hotel was a typical Canary Islands hotel! It was quite as we expected. The room was very nice. We had a balcony and a lovely view over the pool-area. The staff was friendly and helpfull. We ordered a all-inclusive which was okey compared to the money we payed for the stay, but the food was quite boring after eating the same food for four days.
Very disappointed with this hotel
from Brommies
In our view, this hotel is not a 4*, more like a 2-3* maximum. It's sad because the hotel has so much potential but it's looking tired and in desperate need of refurbishment. The pool is a nice size but is not heated as advertised - the water was freezing, but as always there were some children braving the water! Also, we only saw the pool being cleaned once during our two week stay. The food was the worst I've experienced in any country on any holiday. It was poorly presented slop and had it not been for the little signs, you would not know what it was. Food seemed to be recycled from breakfast to lunch and from lunch to evening dinner. The ambience was like a school canteen rather than a relaxing meal - very uncivilised waiting in a long line for lukewarm food then walking around trying to find drinks or cutlery etc. I would expect this in a 2* hotel, not a supposed 4* Medhotel. My husband and I were all-inclusive (big mistake) and after losing weight after the first week, decided we would find alternative eating arrangements. We spoke to the duty manager on reception about how dreadful the food in the restaurants was and he agreed and said he doesn't eat it (!). The staff need customer service training as they were unhelpful and unfriendly unless you are German (sorry, but that's how it appears). The exception were the Animation Team, who tried hard to motivate the guests and children and always had a smile. There was a free bus to the beach and back each day, but hang onto your hat as he's a GP racer in disguise. He took our breath away a couple of times with the speed he took the corners... We hired a car for our last four days and enjoyed exploring surrounding towns, beaches and restaurants nestled in the mountains. Before we booked this hotel, we saw other Costa Calma hotels on the seafront which we decided against as they didn't look like they had as many facilities and of course the Drago Park was listed as 4* so we went for that 'extra star' service (what a joke). We had a walk along the seafront and had a look at those hotels during our stay and they were much nicer even though officially rated lower, and would advise holidaymakers to book those instead of the Drago Park. There was a lovely firework display on New Years Eve, and I would say that was the best thing about our stay at the hotel. Fuerteventura as whole is relaxing and worth a visit (especially if you're into kite surfing) but it's worth finding out more about your hotel or you might end up with a Drago Park nightmare.
Nice Hotel - shame about the food !!
from IntrepidNorthernBrit
As 'seasoned' travellers we've been to a lot of 4* Canary hotels over the years, and have just had a week (23-30/12/06) with five friends at this hotel (2 x couples plus 1 x single, all 50+). We knew what to expect, and were not disappointed with the accommodation, and previous comments about the hotel being a 'bit tatty' are correct but in keeping with the majority we've been to. Location we knew was 1500 metres from the beach but it's only a 10 minute walk, and although there's no promenade the daily 1 hour walk along the beach was very nice in the sun. The greatest disappointment was the food. As the hotel caters mainly for Germans, there was only fried eggs or pancakes for 'us Brits' at breakfast and if the urn had water in at all (for making tea), it was only luke-warm. Lunch and dinner starters / salads were OK even though there was little or no choice of cold meats, but a limited choice of main course with very few vegetables was a poor offering, and unless you had the food directly from the grill it was cold or luke-warm. There appeared to be the standard facilities to keep food warm (steel trays over a bath of hot water, but there was never any hot water in it !!) Puddings were identical each day - jelly, creme caramel and ice-cream. We had a 'Gala Dinner' on Christmas day, but reconstituted turkey impregnated with dates and raisins was not our cup of tea. Would I go back ?? - possibly, if the restaurant bucked its ideas up, but there's too many other hotels / resorts to see.
Relaxing all-inclusive
from RogueRogan
Decided to hire a car and drive down to the hotel, was quite late, very difficult to find as it's not near the waterfront like many of the hotels in Costa Calma. The Drago Park Hotel is set into the hills, the beach is a bit of a walk away but not too much of a trek and there is a bus service. There were plenty of parking spaces at the hotel and it's a relative breeze to get around Fuertaventura apart from the busy capital. The hotel was probably one of the cleanest I've ever seen. Attention to detail was also quite impressive - the maid created a swan out of the towels and we even caught someone cleaning the top of the many lamps in the corridors. Facilities were very good, rooms up to a high standard with all mod cons and some strange music device that I assume is to help you to get to sleep but the type of music poses some questions! Unfortunately the food isn't up to a similarly high standard. This end of the island is generally more frequented by German visitors and as the other reviews say, so is the hotel. The food therefore tends to cater more for German tastes, for some reason all the veg and meat has onions in it! However it's edible and probably pretty good for the amount of people they have to cook for. It is an incredibly good hotel for just relaxing in the sun and reading a book and chilling out! I'd say if you're looking for more to do then the opposite end of the island is better. After going up to the other end of the Island I thought I'd made the right choice staying at 'the Germanic end' - the British end seemed far more developed, spoiled and a bit tacky in places. Nothing against the hotel, but I would probably look around to see if there are any hotels nearer the beach next time of a similar price and standard. If not I'd happily revert back to Drago Park.
Great food, great staff, not the best location
from karlik
I have returned 14 days ago from 10 days trip to Fuerteventura Drago Park Hotel with my girlfriend. After reading some previous reviews we have asked in advance for a room in the top floor and I fully recomend to do so, because some of the rooms are in a ground floor and facing the swimming pool (can suit to someone staying all the day by the pool). The hotel itself looks like it has been in operation for long time and would need some general maintenance and repairs (cracks in walls, missing tiles, scratches on walls etc.) Also the lobby and all equippment looks like 3 star rather than 4 star standard. On the other hand all the staff do their best to keep all the public areas of the hotel clean. Your room will be also cleaned every day and they change your towels every day as well if you wish so. Linen has been changed every third day. Location of the hotel is not the greatest, because to get to the nearest beach or to Costa Calma centre it is minimum 15 minutes walk. Hotel provides free bus tickets to guests every day - ask at the reception. We have hired a car after two days and so it was not an issue for us. The most possitive on the hotel is the staff. Starting at the reception, where you get upon arrival a label on your hand, which marks you as a guest entitled to all the treatments, which hotel provides. Unfortunately, you can not remove the label, so you have to wear it all over the stay. But I saw also people from other hotels wearing various types of these belts, so it is probably common in the area. Regarding the food and beverage I can say only and only positives. You can start in the morning with rich breakfast, continue with a small snack by the swimming pool. Than you can get bufet lunch and another snack - all in the pool area. In the evening they offer extensive choice of meals for dinner. They keep 4 weeks cycles, so even when staying longer, the food will not repeat. The only comment I have is to deserts, which missed some variety - pudding every day :-) Some evenings they will surprise you with thematic cuisine (national, italian, french, etc.) During all the day you can get free soft drings, wine and beer (San Miguell) - all self service + local alcoholic drings and coctails prepared by the bar staff. The room has been with simple equippment aprox 25 sqm including bathroom with nice balcony with view to the pool and also a sea. Our room has been equipped with two single beds put together, but because of ceramic floor in the room it slided and every morning we found a whole in the middle :-) Just simple screw could solve the problem. If you plan to use the in-room safe, be preapred, that you will be charged 2,- EUR per day for use and is not a notebook size and they do not have bigger safe at reception. I had notebook with me and I had no choice thant to risk it and to keep it in the wadrobe. Nothing happend, but was not pleasant. As I mentioned already we have hired car for a week from local company called "Cicar" and I can only recomend. WE have ordered Opel Corsa, but got new Astra with just 14,000 km on tacho and full equippment. They picked us up at the hotel and drowe us to their office for the car. The same, when we returned the car, they draw us back to the hotel. We have spent most of the time on trips. I fully recomend to visit Cofete (dont get confused by the 20 km long dusty road). You can find there great beach with very few people and nice waves. I also recomend to visit Parque de Las Dunas on the north of Island and a boat trip to Los Lobos. If you go north, try at least once the inner road, which gives very nice views. Be also prepared that the wheater is very windy. Even, when it is 28C outside, on the beach you will feel colder and of course, you will have send everywhere - by the way almost everywhere is very nice golden sand and not black one. Beware!!!!! Hotel and all the beaches are full of fat and noisy Germans, for which the biggest fun is to get naked on public beaches. Nothing against naked people, but most of the bodies shoud stay covered. :-))) Overall I hade great time, great food and great fun in Club Hotel Drago Park and mainly because of the staff and food I would recomend it to my friends. In fact I plan to sent my parents there in February as a Christmass present.
Not for the average Brit but just right for me

For a holiday hotel, this could hardly be bettered. Rooms are good.Food is excellent with a wide variety of meat, fish and vegetable dishes. It is possible to eat and drink virtually all day if one is sufficiently gluttonous. There are few Brits, so the attraction of this hotel is even better and the whole resort if one can call Costa Calma that has few Brits around. Peace and Quiet. Service at the hotel is generally excellent except for the bar in the evening, when the service is pretty naff (insufficient and disinterested staff). The only other failing is the swimming pool, which is far too shallow for any serious swimming. The good points vastly outweigh the bad ones. The resort location is well away from the two main British resorts but if you are Brits and can't live without the british food then don't come. Stick to the Northern resorts and have your fish and chips and steak and kidney pie. I did visit these resorts and I can tell you they are pretty horrendous.
On 9 September about 1pm arrived at hotel to be informed at reception that the hotel had no rooms available.Another couple from the same transit bus but from a different flight were told the same. We 4 persons were sent by taxi to the Golden beach hotel to spend the first... more
