Mercure Lisboa Jose Malhoa Hotel

Absolute nightmare, we went to checkout on our last day and the receptionist said that we had to pay out another 60 euros that was apparently outstanding for our final night. However, on arrival to the hotel we had been told that our full payment had been received for the week and as far as we were concerned the total amount for our stay had already been withdrawn by the hotel from our bank account. This modern hotel has a good value for money: for something more than 60 Euros per night (2 persons) we had a comfortable and clean room. Moreover, even though it is not located inside the historical center of Lisboa, is very close to a metro station so you can reach the center of the town in about 10 minutes.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, although I did experience some issues. The hotel is well located near an underground stop, and with shops and other hotels near by. It is also a short taxi ride from the airport, like all of Lisbon. The hotel is comfortable, and whilst not luxurious, well appointed for the room rates. The Mercure Lisbon is in the 'newer' business part of town, but is close to the Jardim Zoological metro station (7 stops to downtown) and the Sete Rios train/bus station (convenient for train to Sintra). The hotel itself is very well managed and the rooms were tastefully furnished, comfortable, clean and air-conditioned. Half the rooms have a nice view of mid-distance hills and the aquaduct, but also have the drawback of facing a county fairground that hosts very noisy local events late into the night. We stayed at the Mercure Hotel for 4 nights. We had booked the room at the hotel groups website. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room itself was ok, clean and comfortable like a standard Mercure Hotel room (Satellite TV, Minibar, safe, hairdryer). There is a swimming pool on the top floor and it seems that in summer, they open the roof. I booked this hotel after seeing good reviews on tripadvisor but I have to say, it was a pretty uncomfortable stay. Area is ok with good transport links but hotel staff were not very helpful. Most of all the beds were really really uncomfortable. It was like sleeping on a wooden box with steel pillows. We changed our room but it was identical. Would suggest you stay away as I am not used to getting backache from a 4 star hotel. Stayed 3 nights at the Mercure. Really good positioning, about 10 mins walk to the underground and then its about 10 mins into the centre on the blue line straight down to the shops and restaurants. The taxi from the airport was only 6 euros 50 which compared to England is a bargain. Didn't eat breakfast but there is a coffee shop across the road which was fine as it sold muffins etc. The hotel was spotless. The hotel is conveniently situated within walking distance from the metro stop Jardim Zoologica. The room was very well appointed, modern and clean. Bathroom was immaculate and came with a bidet. I loved the bathroom toiletries particularly the body lotion with bitter almonds fragrance! TV came with CNN, BBC and TV5. We opted not to have breakfast at the hotel (7.50 euros) but chose to buy stuff at the supermarket SuperSol located in the basement of a twin tower complex at the end of the street which also housed a food court.
