awesome
This was our first experience but I can honestly tell you that this was the most memorable experience of my life.I give this resort thumbs up.
Excellent!
Absolutly amazing i recommend this hotel very highly. I went for 2 weeks, every single one of the staff all extremely friendly! You get to know them all very well by the end of your holiday. Definatly the best hotel on the island!2 weeks wan't enough so i am going back as soon as i have the cash. I especially liked all the entertainment team David, coztello, Mike, Maria, Tim etc see i know nearly all of them! Cant wait to go back again! If you have any enquiries about this hotel feel free to email me about it zoe352@hotmail.com
Gasolin-station
When you are at the hotel-beach or in the sea you feel like being in a gasolin-station. Only 15 til 20 meters from the beach there is a motorboat carrying a bananaboat, only at this hotelbeach. And the whole day, until the last people at the beach go back to the hotel. We only once took a bath there because it was so terrific. The reception is the worst we ever got to know. The people at the reception don't like to work, i believe. They tell you lies when they don't know anything that you shall not disturb them. For example we wanted to watch our videotape and we telefoned José Antonio on which channel on TV we could see it. He said, "it does not work." Then we went to the reception and asked for the director. Deyan, "jeffe public relations", appeared. He said we could watch the video on channel 24. But that was not true, on 24 was a TV-channel. Another time we wanted to have a print of the yahoo-wheather-forecast, because we thought about making a trip the next day. It took 40 minutes until we got it and we had to ask five different people at the reception. 20 meter from the hotel there is a helicopter landing-station. One morning for two hours a helicopter was flying over the hotel - back and through.... There is also no view from any hotelroom to the beach, because there are many big trees between the beach and the hotel, although in the Thomas-Cook-catalogue we booked and payed a room with sea-viw.
Fantastic place!
Just come back from the Iberostar Costa Dorada. This hotel resort is fantastic. OK the beach is not 'white' sand, but it is golden and very pretty. The people who work there are very hardworking and some of the most pleasant people I have met, very genuine. Plenty of activities, but you are not pressured into joining in if you do not want to. Ignore bad reviews about the Dom Republic. OK some of the areas are extremely run down, but this is a very poor country, however the people still keep smiling! and they are very honest, they value their jobs and want you to return. The rooms are spacious, plenty of drawers and hanging space, airconditioning and a ceiling fan. A tip - take with you a loyalty points card, i.e. Tesco, which you can leave in the slot during the day to keep the fan/airconditioning on, as the power is worked by your room card. Towels etc are always changed and the room kept spotless. Mini bar refilled every day with beer, water and soft drinks. The choice of food is awesome and, despite what you might read, is cooked very well, at lot in front of you. OK some people experienced a few mild stomache problems, but this was mostly due to over-eating, over-drinking and lots of sun - well you are on your holidays! not due to the food and all food is prepared/ice made with bottled water. The pool area is lovely, and despite some reviews, there are plenty of sunbeds, however don't expect to come down at lunchtime and get a prime spot. Not a lot to buy, however the airport sells some small gifts and, if you are a smoker, 200 cigarettes are £11! As for trips - do the rafting - is is brilliant and safe, and also the Freestyle catamaran - great fun. The Iberostar chain seems to be excellent and we are booking for Baravo for next year. GO TO THE IBEROSTAR COSTA DORADA - YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
Fabulous place! Definate Jewel !!
I just got back from a long week end at this lovely resort, and I can heartily recommend it to anyone, even those that are hard to please. I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable traveler, and I must admit that I always tend to look at the glass half full, yet, there was nothing to fault here. The room was immaculate, sunny and pleasantly decorated. We faced the pool, and yet noise was never an issue. The walk to the beach or to the restaurants were equidistant and comfortable to access. The food was quite nice, in fact a real surprise! I expected to find run of the mill, boring buffet cuisine and yet I was amazed to see that there was so much variety and quantity that even the most discerning taste could be satisfied. If buffet isn't your choice of dining, then you could choose from 3 different a la carte restaurants. The beach, contrary to other reviews I've read was absolutely fine. Beautifully calm, with very little seaweed and just a delight. The weather when we were there was quite hot, but the constant island breeze lulled you into believing that it was much cooler. (watch out for that sun!) The staff was professional and very hardworking. Absolutely, tip them! They work 12 hour days and give the guests their all and they deserve a little extra recognition. All in all, a very high impression of the Iberostar and the way this resort is run. Excellent Job! I would love to return, in fact, looking forward to it.
Best Hotel On The Island!!
I've just come back from 2 weeks staying at the Iberostar and have to say of all the hotels I've stayed in, for business and for holiday, this has to be the best. The food is AMAZING, the service is FIRST CLASS and the facilities are FANTASTIC! So much so, I'm looking to go back at the end of August this year!! Everything is clean. We didn't see one single cockroach which, in that heat and humidity and with all the guests and the food around, has to be a first EVER. Entertainment is great - I'm a nightlife, clubbing kinda gal, so staying in the hotel and viewing the in house entertainment is not my idea of fun, it's for families ... until staying here. They were great. The animators were brilliant and worked very hard indeed. I really can't say enough about this hotel it was just excellent. Well done guys and hopefully see you all again in August!
Fantastic holiday
It was a holiday with a difference so much to do and see, the hotel was 1st class and the service was too. We seen the real Dominican as well as the view from the hotel and it was quite something, never knew that life was really like that makes you feel very privileged. It a definite "place to return" when going back through our holiday jaunts. A special thanks too all involved in making it a fantastic holiday. Cheers Andrew
Don't worry about a thing (almost)
I had read many excellent reports on this site about The Iberostar, all of them were accurate. The standard of service, food, cleanliness and entertaiment are of the highest order. The beach, which did attract some criticism, is more than OK (there is some seaweed but where else do you expect to find it?).I also read a warning about some of the entertainers paying too much attention to young female guests and heard evidence of this during our stay in late May early June 2003, so it would be worthwhile keeping eyes/ears open. In terms of value for money you can't go wrong. One tip, if you want branded drinks from the bar ask for these by name. They have most things but they're not on display but if you ask they are willingly provided.Would go back and would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Absolute True 5 Star Paradise!!!
Just returned from a 10 night 11 day stay at this jewel! This place is absoutely breathtaking. You are welcomed in to a huge round marble lobby with plenty of couches surronding a turtle pond in the center. Directly across is La Fuente the huge lobby bar with rattan table and chairs outskirting an inner arrangement of red velvet and wicker couches and ottamans. Next to that is the flamingo pond with 5 beautiful flamingos and 2 cute little duckies, swimming by lilly pads and 2 fountains. The lobby leads out int the center square with tons of green iron table and chairs, 2 pavillions, one which takes you up into the flaming pond, the other has benches to view the theatre area. The center square has fountains and flowers and which are scattered all throughout the property. The food at the main buffet was fantastic, always a large selection, something for everyone and everything I had was delicious! The Brazilian Resturant El Rodizio was the best, big huge skewers of several different meats...tons of meat, you must try this place. La Hacienda the Mexican was also great. El Bohio was okay, but there selection for lunch was better. Drinks were free flowing and always available (until 2 pm) and food is available 24 hours!! Their local Presidente beer was not bad at all, but I drank mostly champage. They also have Heinekin and top shelf liquor but make sure you ask for it if you want it. The disco Route 66 was always hopping and we found no need to go to the Playa Dorado where The Crazy Moon Disco was. Why leave your free drinks and pay a cover when your having a blast! The shows were incredible, a different one every night. I'm not usually into seeing the shows but when I caught a preview of one down by the pool we decided to go and we were never dissapointed. The dancers were incredible, as were the Star friends who ran all the activites by the pool, beach gym etc. There was so much to do or you could just hang out by the huge freeform pool. The beach was very windy, but if you sat by down by the water wear sun block. I tan very easily but the sun is a lot stronger and why ruin your vacation with sun burn. A special Hi to all our fantasic friends we met from England, We had such a great time with: Steve, Evette & Hayden, Anjay & Katy, Barry & Kim, Kevin, Kalya & Dominic and Gary and Suzanne! Mostly remember, you are on vacation or holiday or what ever you call it. Relax and enjoy and don't be so demanding. The entire staff works really hard and most work 6 - 12 hour days, yet they are always smiling and make very little money by our American standards. We tipped the maids $3 dollars a day and although not much for us, we found it was great for them. Our room was always spotless!
In love with Iberostar
I just came back from staying one week at the Iberostar, Puerto Plata. Let me start off by saying that the food is excellent and the service is unbeatable. The staff are very friendly and always smiling. I was there with my entire family of 8 including my 2 year old son and we can't stop talking about how good Ibertostar treated us...The only one thing I didn't like was the beach, its okay. Nothing like other carribbean beaches I have seen before but the pool makes up for it. I am already planning my trip to visit Iberostart in Punta Cana....All in all I had a great experience and would do it again...
