Just returned from a nice 2 weeks stay at this hotel but we didn’t think that when we first arrived.
We were given a ground floor apartment that stunk of mould and was dirty but we were too exhausted from the flight to say something right then so we waited until the next morning, we reported it to reception and was given a much better room a few hours later.
The weather wasn’t that good because January is the start of the rainy season but it was still hot and the sun did come out some of the time probably 50/50.
The hotel complex is starting to look a little tired but we were told it is due to close in April for major refurbishment and if it’s done anything like its sister hotel Blue bay villas Dorados which we stopped at a few years ago it will be very nice indeed the food was good plenty of choice but as anywhere all inclusive can get repetitive after a while but you can always go out for a meal there's a large shopping mall just off the hotel grounds with bars restaurants off licences bucket shops to book your trips and a cinema.
The beach is a short walk from the hotel but is very nice and there's a beach bar there for the hotel guests were you can get food and drink and on an evening do a very nice meal overlooking the ocean but you need to book.
You have beach sellers wandering up and down all day trying to sell you all sorts of crap but everything with a sense of humour.
We did a few trips while we were there a helicopter along the coast up to Puerto Plata and back over the jungle area was good cost about $299us for 1/2 hour but you can get it cheaper by bartering or reducing the time flying also did the monster truck into the outback you wade rivers and see some real Dominicans and how they live this cost $70us each lunch and booze included another trip worth doing was the cable car up to the top of the mountain in puerto Plata you can see for miles but make sure it’s a clear day up there before you start otherwise it will be a waste of time you can hire a taxi outside the hotel agree a price and stick to it the cable car trip should cost about $35us this will include him taking you to a cigar or rum factory.

We arrived at the Club Dorada hotel on the Friday afternoon, the reception staff were very helpful, and we made our way to the room it seemed OK but basic.
However on our 2nd day we had a wasp nest in the room so we had to call for someone to sort it out and they just sprayed the room with a very good spray that killed about 30 wasps, but we wasn't still happy, because outside the room we could see a wasp nest had been disturbed and they had been coming in from the bathroom lights.
We asked to move rooms, so we had to pack up all our stuff and move to a new room it seemed fine at 1st but then we discovered flying ants in the room and in one of the beds so we wasn't happy about that so something else on our list of unhappiness
The next thing was the food oh my god, people in prison get better food than us. It was very poor and lack of choice. The beach bar was even worse. If we ended up staying at the hotel we would have eaten out the rest of the holiday.
The next thing at weekends the locals use the hotel and we became 2nd best. I got ignored at the bar as all the locals got served before me...what more can I say.
I defiantly wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
I feel the hotel shouldn't be used by any UK tour operator as we deserve a better standard
I definitely would say the hotel is a 2 star and not a 3 star as stated by the tour operator
We moved to Blue bay hotel which was 100% better. Our rep Romy was very helpful and moved us straight away for $80.00 for the remaining 10 days.

I went to Dorado Club in May 2006 and loved it so much that we went back in August 2006. Needless to say that I have missed the place tremendously and I am going back again in a few weeks with my 15 year old son and one of his school friends!
The staff at the hotel were the friendliest and happiest people I have ever met whilst on holiday. The food was fabulous, lots of variety and basically.... all you can eat! Oh, and all you can drink too!! Keep an eye out for Daniel (the very handsome one) in the restaurant - he is the most pleasant person you could ever wish to meet, take a moment to chat to him and you will not be disappointed. Daniel will tell you about the history and culture of the island and he will recommend places to visit.
The entertainment crowd work so hard through the day and into the evening that I was more than happy to buy a few drinks for them when we spotted them socialising in one of the bars in the shopping centre in the early hours. They don't get paid much so if you have any money left at the end of your holiday - donations always welcome! James Bond, Charlie Brown, Mosquito are to name a few of the entertainers - they will invite you to join in the games & entertainment but they aren't pushy and won't pester you if you're dozing.
Hope you have as great a time as what we've had if you go.... glorious weather guaranteed (even when it rains!!)

Well this hotel isn’t the best I'd say, when we arrived we waited in a long queue at reception to wait to get our rooms.
Once inside the rooms, they seemed lovely very spacious but only had one king size bed as there were three of us me and my parents this was not ideal.
My dad went to reception to ask for a bed for me and they told him they would put one in which was fair enough cos they did, it wasn’t the nicest though but it did me.
The pool area was small but nice, although it was annoying because it was very small they did pool games and they were right beside where you were sunbathing not ideal if u want to be left alone and not pestered!
The buffet restaurant was nice, all open though but we were told that Dominican air con meant no windows. The food was nice but due to there being no windows flies and things got in.
There was another restaurant an al a carte which you could only go to once a week but was nice, the snack bar was a bit of a hike!It was at the beach at the end of the road bit silly.
The staff were generally very nice although some of the entertainers one in particular was abit of a lurch.
On a good note though I'd definitely recommend the monster truck safari, catamaran, and swimming with dolphins also scuba diving which was amazing!
But all in all I had an excellent holiday and would go back although not straight away. I would prefer to try some of the different Caribbean islands but I'd definitely recommend here, although not really this hotel.

We have just returned from the Dorado Club resort, I must say reading the reviews have brought back fantastic memories. However, a word of warning! Prices for everyday things like crisps, sweets etc. For children are extreme you will pay £5 or £6 pound for a packet of lays crisps about £4 for mars bars.
So be warned take some supplies for the kids before you go as there are no sweets, ice cream or ice lollies available only cold drinks.
We did the discovery excursion if was fantastic I fully recommend it for all the family young and old. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous, we also took a taxi guide into Puerto Plata it cost $45 US dollars and is well worth it. Our guide took us on the cable car ride up the mountain we all nearly had a heart attack whilst in the cable car there was a power cut. Nothing to worry about it happens frequently it gave us something more to talk about great fun.
If you do any of the excursions like the discovery, you will go into the villages we were told to take sweets, paper and pencils for the local children that is fine they are really happy to receive anything but what they really need is shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste any kind of toiletries.
The entertainment for children and adults is fabulous the entertainers work really hard for little pay so give them a tip before you go.
Saving hard to go back, we really miss the place.

I went away on the 23rd may for 2wks all inclusive with my girlfriend (we are 21 and 19).
I could not fault the hotel it was absolutely brilliant. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. They could not do enough for you.
The entertainment team (James Bond, Elvis, Charlie Brown, Pumbaa and Coley) were superb as well they kept the whole hotel entertained for the full 2 weeks. We had games throughout the day such as water polo, volley ball, table tennis, beach Olympics and loads more.
The pool was not massive but was more than big enough for all the guests, it had basketball nets in the pool, a volleyball net and water polo goals. This was superb for everyone as you were never bored with nothing to do. The hotel suits all types of people (young couples, families, old couples etc) because it is lively but if you want to relax its just as good. With their own private stretch of beach and more than enough sun loungers to go round every day. There was a buffet restaurant, 2 a la carte restaurants and 4 bars.
The 24hr food and drink was brill as well! There was enough variety to have a different dish every night in their buffet restaurant. With themed nights like Mexican, Chinese etc. We also had 2 a la carte restaurants which were really nice, a steak house and a beach rest.
Let’s get on to the main thing! The drink! There was a choice of about 20 cocktails. Nearly all spirits you can think of and the late night bar! This bar opened at 12:00 and was open until 7am, but even better it was a self service bar with somebody cooking you food while you drink!
There is so much to do outside the hotel too. If you are in this hotel the shopping centre is a stones throw away so buy excursions from inside there as it saved us hundreds of dollars! Definitely do jeep safari, Ocean world, Freestyle catamaran, dune buggies, horse riding. And there is still loads more to choose from!
Overall the holiday was an amazing 2 wks with so much to do. The hotel was superb, the facilities were really good and the staff brilliant. We met so many nice people there, which made the holiday even better for us! Thanks everyone! The atmosphere through the day and of a night was brill! And we all had a really good laugh!
No complaints! - Attack!

Great last-minute deal and ended up the best holiday ever. Go thinking 3* and you’ll be pleasantly surprised, we thought it was nearer 4*. Food was good with lots of choice for everyone, we had a party of 4 adults and 3 kids, and no one complained the whole holiday. There is a Steak House, which you can eat from once every week, which was also good. Supposed to be all-inclusive for 12 hours a day but at 12 o’clock at night they opened the Steak House and everyone went there for late night snacks and alcohol so it was really 24 hours all-inclusive. Fun team kept everyone amused with pool games and kids club girl (Sophia) took kid to beach or club house for games or drawing etc.
Lots to do outwith the complex, we went on quads (that’s a must, you go through sugar cane fields, shanty towns and is a real eye opener) We did that twice it was so good, jet-bikes, horses, water-park& ocean world (dolphin encounter was fantastic and better value than the swim.)
Beach is just a short walk, 3 minutes away with it’s own bar which supplies drinks, chicken, hot-dogs and hamburgers for those folk that can’t pull themselves back to the hotel for lunch. Water was lovely (clean & warm). Rooms were big and clean, bed comfortable.
We’ll be back but next time for 3 weeks. We loved every minute and will find it hard to ever go to Spain or Greece again. If you get the chance GO you’ll love it.
