Mercure Nice Marche Aux Fleurs

I have stayed in this hotel for three nights. Its service is very bad. It has 3 stars but iti is lacking some of the facilities. It does not have a lift (ascenseur) I was placed in a room which is like an attic but it was not actually the last floor of the building :S. It was between 1st and second floor. The man at the reception at 1 o'clock at night did not help me with the luggage when I entered the hotel. Then when I checked in he carried my luggage. We had a Junior Suite for a four-day stay. The room (123), which I believe is the largest in the hotel, was well-decorated and clean. The bathroom was small considering the size of the room, but it was adequate. The balcony was nice, although trees kept the view from being a full panorama of the sea. The noise from the road was well dampened by the windows, but it was still quite noticeable. We had thought the road would be quieter this far north, but it was not. Great location! Small, but clean and nicely decorated rooms. Big bathroom and very helpful staff who all spoke great english. Upon check out we had some confusion about payment, but the assistatnt director (Valeria I think)was very helful and patient until we got it firgured out. None of the confusion was their fault. I would totally stay here again.

What an excellent location. A short walk to the flower market and a great view from our balcony (room 125) which overlooked the beach. The bathroom was efficient and the room clean. Street noise was not a problem, but we had been spoiled by the black out, roll down, metal blinds at other hotels in Europe. The shower was compact and could use a little more water pressure, but cleanliness was the important factor and they got an A there for bathrooms. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Hotel was in a wonderful position, staff were friendly, and it was very good value for money. Rooms were reasonable size, beds comfortable and bathrooms very clean. Rooms 11 and 12 are those above the Frog restaurant - noisy until 11.30 when we stayed there. Caffe dell Arte does have very good cocktails and interesting decor, le Pain quotidien is good for breakfast, and salads all day. Like some of the other reviewers I was a bit wary of my hotel choice after reading some of the negative reports but any concerns proved to be totally unfounded as I have just come back from one of the best weekends away I've ever had. This hotel is superbly located right on the front next to the Opera and very close to the old town which was handy for going out of an evening. It could be said that the Marche aux Fleurs looks best from the front and it might be true. Our room on 2nd floor was small but quite individualistic and even sported a Balcony ! However the view from it was singularly uninspiring,consisting of the roof and grotty courtyard below. The ongoing electrical renovation work was...well....ongoing,and whilst never a major problem,was a little out of sync with the image of the Hotel and of the Location. I read the reports on this hotel and was a bit worried about staying there, it was bad. Our room was on the ground floor, so it meant our floor was the ceiling of the night club/bar/restaurant so we got the live music playing until the early hours, plus the smells of the food being cooked (chips, curry, etc.). So I would recommend some ear plugs and a tin of fresh air spray if you want to stay here. Just arrived back yesterday after a 3 night stay in this hotel. Highly recommended. Nothing fancy, but really good value and in a fantastic location. Rooms are reasonably small, but spotlessly clean with everything you'd need. Good quality bathroom, with shower and bath, although bath is small. Friendly staff on front desk. Lots of restaurants within a few hundred yards.

Fantastic value compared to other hotels I've stayed at in Nice. Great location and spotlessly clean - will definitely use again.
