Mercure Beauvau Vieux Port

This is a beautifully rehabbed old hotel in the Old Port Area. There are many rooms overlooking the old port and the furnishings and quality of the building are great. The hotel is well-located, with an entrance on a side street one block in from the port. The staff were very friendly and helpful and this is definitely a great place to stay.

My husband and I stayed here for one night before flying out of the Marseille airport and back to the U.S. Based on that experience, I can't say enough good things about this hotel and I'm pretty picky! Though our travel agent did request a renovated room for us in advance, we did not ask for one with a view until checking in. Staff at the Mercure happily honored our request and we got a sleek, immaculate room facing the Old Port. It was also literally quiet as a tomb ... and I'm a very light sleeper who is also noise sensitive.... more

I can't remember our room number but it was looking directly out over the harbour & it was beautiful (the room & the view). We stayed for 2 nights & it was just lovely, the staff were very nice, the hotel was really clean, breakfasts were yummy (just be in before 10am to get the pancakes!) & it's a fantastic location. If you can, get a room facing the harbour, there's noting but a street on the other side. Marseille itself is beautiful around the harbour, but within only a few streets it can be smelly & can feel dodgy, but loiter around the... more

The hotel is centrally located, ideal for catching the open-air bus (right opposite, and recommended). Lovely public seating areas, our room was beautifully decorated, lovely bathroom, and best of all, very quiet! We went for a room at the back, knowing that Marseille can be very noisy, but the double glazing in this hotel is superb. Sit in the pleasant bar area & watch the daily fish-market. I stayed at this hotel this July and found it acceptable for the price we paid (220euros br.included), but not quite luxurious for a 4star establishment. PROS: -Location. The hotel is located in the center of the city, just a few steps from the shopping district, the museums and most of the sights.The metro station Vieux Port is just outside. -Sound Proofing. Our room faced the very lively street (not the port), fun to watch and listen to by day, but just close the double paned windows and you have pure silence by night. We never heard a peep from others on the floor - very quiet hotel. The room was lovely and clean, beautifully decorated, our only complaint was the very hard bed pillows. The bed was comfy. The location cannot be beat for exploring the port and surrounding areas by foot. The front desk staff was helpful, friendly, and most spoke English. Don't miss the lively fish market... more

I am very fussy about my hotels. This hotel is in a perfect position on the Old Port. Some rooms face the port and are more expensive, others like mine face the rear, still nice outlook at other old buildings. My room was perfect. Beautifully renovated and comfortable. I was very happy there. The staff were all very nice and helpful. The bar and breakfast room have sensational views over the old port so if your room doesn't have it, then just sit there for a while.
