Just returned from a 2 week stay at the iberostar dominica with my wife and teenage daughter, and must agree with previous guest reviews on this and other review sites about the great facilities available at this very well kept hotel resort with its lovely gardens and wildlife.. free roaming peacocks and chickens!. The rooms however are in need of an upgrade throughout the complex(the resort is comprised of 3 blocks:-Dominicana/Punta Cana/Bavaro) and renovation work had just started a few days before our departure. The resort is huge!! with plenty of areas to explore, eat, or just relax!. The buffet restaurants are excellent and should satisfy even the fussiest eater, the restaurant staff are among the most hard working and polite friendly people we have met on our travels. You will see these men and women at the early breakfast buffet, at lunch, and they are still there to serve at the evening buffet (remember there is no minimum wage in this part of the world) but are always courteous and engaging, even though many of them do not speak english. The same cannot be said for the "Star Friends" entertainment team who with one or two exceptions are lazy and arrogant and will only engage with guests who speak spanish.Don't get me wrong, i can speak basic spanish which always helps, and i know spanish is their first language, but this is supposed to be a 5 star international resort with guests from all over the world and english should be spoken a bit more to include non spanish speaking guests.
Back to the resort, the beach is fantastic, the water sports are great, the variety of excursions on offer are probably the best in the caribbean from horse riding to helicopter trips ( i would recommend the buggy go cart/ horse riding 1/2 day trip good value for money) DO NOT BE AFRAID TO HAGGLE when you buy anything here, that includes excursions, tee shirts, paintings, cigars, souvoniers etc. take a taxi to Plaza Bavaro( to get a local experience), please do not feel intimidated by the locals just smile and say "no thank you " and you will be fine!! (DO NOT BE AFRAID TO HAGGLE).
I can honestly say overall we had a great holiday, it really is as good or bad as you choose to make it,you will meet people from all over the world and the iberostar dominica is excellent value for money with a great cosmopolitan feel, go enjoy!!

What a fantastic place/hotel. The weather was in the 90's daily although it is monsoon season, so had a bit of rain for a couple of days but only lasted about 10 minutes at a time.
Punta Cana itself is gorgeous, clean, safe and no mosquitoes’. The Iberostar complex was out of this world.
The rooms were massive and cleaned daily (ours was right by the pool/beach), the food was fantastic with 7 restaurants, and the staff were helpful and friendly.
This was our honeymoon and we couldn't of picked somewhere nicer to go. Would definitely return.

Aug 2006, Mr I S Haywood

We stayed here for 2 weeks and I must say the holiday overall for the whole period was fantastic.
The beach is wonderful and allows you to walk for miles. You can also check out the other hotels along the way to see if there is anywhere else you fancy staying (should you return). Accommodation is good, cleaned daily with fresh towels, minibar which is restocked daily with alcohol or every other day with water. We asked or maid for extra water and this was no problem. After this we would leave her a couple of dollars tip each day.
Food is really good although we had read a few reviews on other websites saying people had been ill, but we never had a problem. We ate at the 5 specialty restaurants once spread out over the 2 week period and all were good. Favourites would be the Oriental and the A la carte. The Steakhouse is on the beach so no high heels (as my wife found out) for this one ladies!
The grounds of the hotel are fantastic and kept to a very high standard. Because the Dominicana is part of 3 Hotels all together, you can walk around for miles and see so many beautiful things such as Flamingos and Peacocks roaming freely. The pools are good too and we spent our mornings here and afternoons on the beach.
We did a couple of trips while here and both were excellent. Firstly we went to Seona Island which is a long day (2 1/2 hours by coach then either speedboat one way or catamaran return or vice versa) but well worth it. Secondly we did a helicopter trip whereby we were picked up from the hotel, taken about a 15 minute ride by car to the heliport and then a 1/2 hour flight up and down the coast. This was really good and do not forget your video camera for this one for some great memories.
The only thing I think they could improve on is the nightly shows which if you are there for 2 weeks are repeated completely the second week. That I think would be my only negative point of the whole holiday. You can go over to the Bar at the Punta Cana if you want a more relaxing night but as we tend to eat quite late we missed the entertainment here most nights. All in all though, a great holiday and we would return there tomorrow (please!).
Happy holidays.

Paradise. The hotel Iberostar...

Paradise. The hotel Iberostar Dominicana resort in Bavaro is a 5 star all inclusive hotel complex made up of 3 sister hotels the Dominicana Bavaro and Punta Cana all are next to each other on a prime beach front location with clear sea white sand and edged with palms its a picture postcard view that you dream about.
The hotel rooms are furnished in Dominican style and most have king size beds all with balcony or terrace private bathrooms and a well stocked mini bar containing water fizzy pop and beer restocked every other day.
Rooms cleaned every day and the house keeps do a fantastic job often leaving special touches by leaving petals or flowers in the bathroom and forming swans and hearts with the towels.
My room was a suite in the Punta Cana side of the building which also had an iron and ironing board and coffee percolator with the ground coffee and whitener to go with it the room also had a table and chairs in side and a table and chairs on the balcony too full air con and 2 ceiling fans kept the room nice and cool considering the 32 c temp night and day so you do get a good nights sleep.
There are a number of specialty restaurants all of which are included and have some fantastic foods from steaks to Thai curries you are limited to the amount of visits depending on your overall duration and it is advised to book these on your arrival to avoid the possibility of not being able to get a reservation in addition to this the Punta Cana and the Bavaro share two wonderful buffet al you can eat style restaurants offering a vast selection of foods including show cooking where you can wait and see your food cooked.
These generally serve breakfasts and evening meals lunch is pool side or beach front steak house and tropical restaurants with regular bbq style cooking on the beach paella steak lobster etc.
You can also visit the ice cream stand and the health bar for refreshments along with the lobby bars and beach front bar for drinks.
The lobby bar serves beers to cocktails milkshakes to sodas the children recommended the milkshakes you can also as part of the all-inclusive package have selected international branded drinks the bar and cocktail list will tell you which ones.
There is a fantastic range of day time and evening entertainments with the star friends team ensuring your time is fantastic these range from beach and poolside games to international shows and dancing they all work extremely hard at there work to keep you happy all day long and the kids have there own hotel run mini club keeping them busy too.
Between the Dominicana and Punta Cana there are two main freeform pools with shady areas to keep you cool and a smaller children’s splash pool and both separated with tropical gardens with flamingos wandering freely pools with fish and turtles in and around the reception and restaurant areas and if this is not enough to keep you happy you also get as part of the package a night club and a star rock cafe open 11 till 3 after that you can always get some thing to eat or drink because the Iberostar are a 24 hour food and drink complex there are shops in the complex you can buy post cards to gold diamond rings and a casino if you think your lucky slot machines and tables and a bank for money exchange.
You can not drink the tap water but you always have a god supply of bottle water in your rooms the ice is made from mineral water so its safe.
We did not see or here of any one being ill on our visit but as with any where always be careful with what you eat and drink pace your self and you will have the best holiday ever would I go back? Yes. I rate this 10/10. From reception to entertainment and 10/10 for value for money. The only downfall we had was a few rainy days but hey its the tropics some days it rains some days hot sun shine. You will love this resort and have fun too.

The hotel is huge, with good facilities. The pools and beach are very clean. The rooms are fairly basic but adequate with good air conditioning.
There is a good selection of restaurants, with food for all tastes, although the buffet could be better. The service is good, and the entertainment staff try their best to get you involved, although I found this annoying at times.
Overall excellent value for what you get.

May 2005, Ms C Godridge

I would recommend Iberostar hotels to anybody. The food was fantastic, the staff were the friendliest people we had ever met, everyone said hello to you as you walked past them. The rooms were beautiful, fantastically clean and top class.
We are planning on returning to the same hotel next year, the beaches were also fantastic, the hotel provided free beach towels and sun loungers and even free ice cream and hand rolled cigars!
My sister got married on the beach and the ceremony was really special, a guitar trio serenaded them with Spanish love songs!
I would recommend the Dominican Republic and especially Iberostar to anyone. I would avoid the nightclub in the complex though as we and 5 different groups of people got stomach upsets the day after drinking in there. The nightlife was fairly quiet too but the people and daily activities more than made up for it!
I had a massage in a beach hut, which was heaven! We also did archery, pool scuba diving aqua aerobics and had a few sessions in the Jacuzzi!
