" My partner and I have just returned... "

My partner and I have just returned from 2 weeks in Stegna. At first we felt a little isolated and thought we might be bored after a week. We enjoy walking but there wasn't really any where to walk to as there is only one road in and out of Stegna which isn't very "walker friendly". Once we had settled we just didn't want to go home.
There are many tavernas in Stegna but we chose to use Knights Castle which we can highly recommend as the food is excellent and very good value for money. The owner and his wife are very friendly and helpful.
We stayed at the Tsambika Apartments and had the top Apartment the views were fantastic and we could watch the sun rise from our balcony.
This has been our best holiday so far.

Just arrived back from a fabulous week spent at Stegna, thoroughly enjoyable. The weather was still really hot 34C most days and not a cloud in the sky.
Couldn't fault Stegna, it was just want we wanted. Relaxing, not too busy, not too quiet, with a lovely friendly atmosphere. Plenty of wonderful tavernas/restaurants to satisfy your appetite, we enjoyed the Stegna Star (they give you fresh grapes for desert free from their own vines), En Plo and the fish restaurant near the harbour. The owners are very friendly, we had free drinks at En Plo the first day we got there - excellent service all round. The sea is wonderful, crystal clear, perfect for swimming and snorkelling - plenty of fish about especially late afternoon. Another good snorkelling beach is Agathi beach, about 15 mins drive south of Stegna. The supermarkets look small, but are very well stocked with all you need. I recommend the fresh bananas!
We hired a car from the rental place at the end of the street from the apartments, at 100Euro for 3 days hire, great value - don't go for the deal with the tour operator, well over-priced and not worth the "piece of mind" they try and trick you with. The local hire place was very professional and we had a nearly new Corsa in great condition. We prefer car hire generally but the bus system seemed great value and easy to use.
Loads to see on Rhodes, Lindos and Rhodes Town a must for the historical sites (get there early though to avoid the tour bus crowd), Valley of the Butterflies a wonderful spectacle - walk to the very top of the valley if you can, you will be rewarded with wonderful views and a friendly welcome in the mountain monastery. Monolithos monastery has spectacular views too and stalls on the side of the road selling fresh local produce at very reasonable prices - the figs were stunning!
The Tsambika apartments were excellent, a 2 min walk from the beach with views of the sea (try to get a first floor apartment for the best views). Clean, comfortable but if you're going in the height of summer make sure you budget for the extra cost of the air conditioning, 8Euros a day. We hired a fan as it wasn't too hot at 15Euros for the week.
All in all, I would highly recommend Stegna and the Tsambika apartments for a relaxing, bustle free break on a stunning island. It won't be to everyone’s liking if you like a lively resort and want to follow the crowd, but if you want a typical Greek atmosphere then this is the place for you. I would go back in a heartbeat.

" When we arrived at the hotel we were... "

When we arrived at the hotel we were not put into the lovely apartments as advertised and as many people did get to stay in, we were put into the main building with no air conditioning and had to pay a charge to be moved to another room with air conditioning costing 50euros still in the main building and the air conditioning was not to a good standard.
Maid service was few and far between and we made friends with a couple in the apartments who got exactly what they paid for i am very disappointed reading such lovely reviews when we did not get the holiday we thought we would get.
A torch was not needed and the hotel was very noisy with a 24hr bar and music played all night.
I would not go there again for the fear of being put in the main building again, it was so bad we came home a week early.

Hi, we have just returned from a great holiday in Stegna. If you want a quiet holiday, this is the place to go. Although Stegna is quite isolated, only 1 bus out & 1 bus back from Rhodes Town a day, you can still manage to get around. There is a free bus each day that takes you up to the town of Archangelos & back (you can get a connecting bus from here).
There are plenty of eating places but our favourite was Knights Castle, which is the last restaurant on the hill out of the resort. The hill leads to Archangelos, 3km from Stegna.
We stayed at the Tsambika apartments, which we thought were great. Although they are basic, they have everything you need. You have maid service on Wed and Sat. The owner is very nice; he visits the apartments daily, where you'll see him tending to the lovely well kept gardens. The apartments are a good size and are in an excellent location, about 60m from the beach, which is lovely.
It has a little harbour at one end and a small Marina near the other end. The sea is crystal clear; it’s lovely to swim in. On the beach you can hire sun beds and umbrella for 6 euros per day.
Sofia’s supermarket is about 50m from the apartments, it is very well stocked. There is also another 3 super markets along the Prom, which incidentally is the only road in Stegna. We plan to revisit Stegna, we hope it never changes!

What a lovely resort!!!! Although there are only a few bars the resort is peaceful and has a beautiful beach with a very clean sea! It does not get busy at all as it is a small resort but beware the day-trip ship that comes twice a day to the beach! I recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday by an amazing beach!
The apartments are very clean and although 3 of us stayed in one studio we did not find it too small. The small garden is very nice and you can meet the owner who waters it daily. It is literally across the road from the beach and it only takes about 10 minutes to walk from one end of the village to the other. There are a couple of good tavernas offering freshly caught sea food-delicious! Shops sell basic goods such as sandwiches and mosquito repellents (these are needed) but at high prices.
We hired a paddle boat for a two hours which was a brilliant experience as you can paddle around the coves and go exploring the caves nearby. Also it is paradise for smokeless - there are so many fish swimming around especially once you go far out to the sea, and as the water is so clean and clear you can see right down to the sea bed!
Overall I had a lovely time there, a well worth relaxing holiday!

The location is good - only a few minutes from the beach. There's also a supermarket close by. There are plenty of eating places but our favourite was Stegna Star.
Do not go to "Tradition Restaurant" which sort of sits above a little art gallery - the food wasn't great, we were over-charged compared to the menu price.
Stegna has a long stretch of beach, though it's not exactly "gold and sandy" as seen in some advertisements. However it's still a nice beach, with clear water and lots of fishes so it's good for snorkelling. If you want a gold and sandy beach, go to Agathi. It's lovely, with very fine sand and shallow water.
There is infrequent bus service from Stegna to other places like Archeangelos and Tsambika - though life will be much easier if you hire a motorbike (for 13 euro a day). We also visited Lindos and Rhodes Town; the trips would have been tricky if we had to rely on the bus service.
Overall it's a nice holiday and I'd recommend it.
