More Traveller Reviews of Souli Beach Hotel
So good I keep going back
from RepeaterDevon
I always use to say I would never go back to the same place twice. But I had my first visit to the Souli Hotel a few years ago, the following year I went somewhere different. However, I quickly realised there was something missing, so, against my better judgement, I went back to the Souli and have never looked back. If you want a relaxing holiday, in a quiet location, either exploring the local area or just chilling around a more than adequate swimming pool with fantastic views then look no further than the Souli and watching the sunset over the mountains whilst enjoying a pre-dinner drink is a sight to behold! The amount of people who return year after year speaks volumes, those who complain have probably just come to the wrong place, if you want English bars, noisy nightlife and to just spend your time clubbing, forget it. The Souli is clean, friendly, in a very peacful setting. The restaurant is very friendly and serves quality food, nothing is too much trouble and the staff work extremly hard and always with a smile. However, if you want a change it is only a short walk to Latchi Harbour with a variety of tavernas. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday either exploring or doing nothing other than lazing around the hotel pool and beach then look no further. I would also add, that as a single traveller the Souli is ideal, I feel safe and well looked after. I have never found it noisy, and have always slept well. I shall shortly be heading off to the travel agents to book my next trip, is that the seventh or eigth time I've been!
Erm... not our cup of tea.

Ok, I have just read all of the 'fantastic' reviews regarding this hotel and have to say I feel somewhat different to them. Me and my fiance have just come back a week early from our holiday in Souli Hotel in Latchi. To be fair, if you like basic- and I mean basic accomodation then it is fair to say this is probably good value but I defy anyone to tell me it is worth staying in a place that always seems to have staff (especially the owner) who act like they cannot be bothered to be there and would rather you didn't bother them. The service was practically non-existant and if you are looking for a decent nights sleep here- forget it, there is always someone making a noise outside of the rooms both late at night and very early in the morning! Not very peaceful! Perhaps it was the fact my travel agent did not tell me that this was a 2star hotel and the fact she also told me it was an adult-only hotel (obv not the hotels fault- much more like First Choices fault!) I perhaps would have been more sympathetic to the hotels' charms. The one thing I can say is the hotel is VERY clean, which is great. Latchi itself is in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do- I dont know why people would go there, If you are the sort of chavvy english person that enjoys a roast dinner on the beach on a Sunday or are a lager-lout who watches sport all day, there is nothing here for you. Very bad atmosphere in Cyprus from what I have seen, I personally would never visit the country again- nor would I recommend anyone else to! There was however, a fantastic little cocktail bar in Polis that was the highlight of every evening for us- great music, brilliant drinks and fantasticly friendly staff and owners! Its the only place I will miss. My advice- avoid Cyprus and enjoy REAL culture and beauty in Sicily, my best holidays ever have been here.
Fabulous location

The Souli has a fabulous location right next to the sea, a room with a sea view and balcony is a must. The restaurant is right on the beach, for breakfast and evening meals. All the facilities are simple/basic, this is not a 4 star hotel with room service etc. The rooms are very clean with comfortable beds and good showers/baths, TV but no tea making facilty but we took a travel kettle which plugged straight into the UK type 3 pin socket. There is a nice pool and a very relaxing atmosphere around the hotel and gardens. Breakfast is buffet style with egg, bacon, toast ,fruit , cheese, ample but not an extensive choice. The restaurant has a good choice of evening meals but are of the local Greek style, we enjoyed a few meals and they were good value. The sea front at Latchi is about 10 minutes walk away and has lots of restaurant with plenty of fish and local dishes to choose from. This part of Cyprus not for you if you want a hectic night life but if you want a quiet relaxing holiday, this is the place. A car is useful for exploring the rest of the coast and the mountains.
What a location!

It's getting very difficult to add anything new about this hotel but to sum things up - what a great place! I can still hear the sea rolling against the pebbles just yards from the open sided restaurant. This location is one in a million. Rooms are clean, staff are excellent, food is well prepared and the pool spotless. This hotel will be loved by those who want a calm haven. Most people want a little more action in the evening and ten minutes down the road (with a specific walk and cycle lane) is Latchi. The marina area offers 10-15 bar/restaurants at reasonable prices but if you stay at the Souli hotel the half board option offers plenty of choice. This is officially a 2 star hotel so don't think you are staying at the Hilton. The rooms are more akin to a budget travel lodge but are very clean. There are no tea or coffee making facilities but all rooms take a UK 3 pin plug. Hiring a car is a good idea - it took me 5 minutes to realise that they drive on left, same as us. Stay out of the major resorts and traffic is very light so it's easy to get around. There are not many places that we go back to but this is going to be one of them
Great place - Incredible views – Helpful and accommodating staff!

We were on a two week family vacation in Cyprus and spent two nights at the Souli as we explored the western side of the island. We rolled in with six kids ages 8 and under and everyone had a great time. We were traveling mid-week so the hotel wasn’t too full and the English speaking staff were polite and attentive at check-in. No complaints on the accomadations - the rooms were clean with no frills and the beds were comfortable. Bathrooms were a bit smaller but were in good shape and had a full tub. Our first evening we had dinner on the deck by the pool – the food was great , reasonably priced and again, the staff were attentive and helpful. The breakfast buffet each morning was ample and the ocean views from the balconies both day and night were spectacular. The kids enjoyed the pool and exploring the pebble beach as it was a bit to cold to swim in the ocean. If we ever end up in this part of the world again, we will definitely stay here!
lovely retreat

Just returned from a little break at the lovely Souli Beach Hotel .... although only given 2 stars .....in its own way it deserves far more....spotlessly clean , friendly , lovely setting , a basic no frills, but very comfortable hotel that instantly makes you feel at home... its such an easy place to be.... the driving is easy and most people speak english and its generally very unspoilt around the latchi/polis area.....we drove up thru the Akamas and down the other side to Lara bay........ hired a boat and went along the coast and sat on the beach down the road past the Anassa hotel .... hardly anyone there.... lovely....totally relaxing.....great food everywhere especially at the Souli , next door at Periyiallis and also in Polis which is a very charming little cypriot town.....If you just want to chill for a few days with lovely weather and relatively cheaply if u can get a cheapie flight with squeezy jet this could be what your looking for..... Tip. beaches are pebbly and this makes the water amazingly clear and great for swimming but take beach shoes to walk on the pebbles....unless ur really tough!!!
A friendly and relaxing hotel
from BecaCat
I spent a week at the Souli beach hotel, and had a truly relaxing time! The location was good, - literally on the beach ( a bit pebbly, not really suitable for sunbathing). Having your meals at the hotel restaurant accompanied by the sounds of the sea was lovely! The meals were great value, and lots of locals ate there (always a good sign!). The staff were all pleasant and spoke perfect English (half Australian-half Cypriot!). The themed Cypriot evening was entertaining, even though we had a power-cut (due to a huge thunderstorm lasting for hours! ). The show went on regardless in candle-light, - quite cosy and more authentic with the wine flowing and everyone dancing!! The rooms were clean and basic, and the bathrooms had a bath as as well as a shower, with plenty of hot water! Although the beach wasn't the most attractive for sunbathing, the sea was perfect for swimming and snorkelling! It was a lot warmer than the pool, and so clear! There were loads of pretty fish and a few squid swimming there! Latchi town/village was a 5-10min walk from the hotel, and had lots of fish tavernas dotting the harbourside serving very fresh seafood - delicious! Being a lone single female traveller, I felt very safe there, and met lots of new friends. I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a relaxing break in a quiet, less 'touristy' area of Cyprus. This is not the place for those of you looking for luxury, but for those wanting good value, great food and company away from the hustle and bustle of your usual tourist resort.
Great views from an inexpensive hotel

ACCOMMODATION: basic but bright and clean. Our room had a bath with shower over. There was ample hanging space with an assortment of plastic hangers, storage above, plus four small drawers. The shady sea-facing rooms were on all three floors and even our ground-floor room had good views. The sunny inland rooms overlooking the road were on the 1st and 2nd floors only and had far-reaching views. Some villas were being built on the land opposite but these should not spoil the outlook. TVs in bedrooms showed local programmes with some English-language films. FACILITIES: the large restaurant had covered outdoor seating overlooking the sea plus an indoor section. The bar by the pool had some comfortable outdoor seats. The swimming pool was cleaned every morning we were there. It was unheated and sloped very steeply and was not, in my opinion, suitable for children. There was also a small pool 0.6m deep. There were sunloungers surrounding the pool, about half in the shade and half in the sun, a few umbrellas and another grassy sunbathing area, a tennis court and two car parks. The beach in front of the hotel is stony with just a little sand but a few people swam and there was a lifeguard post which was not manned whilst we were there. Apart from the restaurant, the only indoor seating was a few armchairs in reception, which had satellite TV and a selection of books. The hotel had currency exchange facilities which gave a better rate than we received in the UK. FOOD was of a good quality and portions were generous. Breakfast each day was a simple hot and cold buffet. Half-board was available at CYP7 and you could choose three courses from all but the more expensive items on their menu. You could have this for lunch or dinner on as many days as you wished. We found that one course was enough and just paid for that. It was a popular lunch stop for jeep safaris. OTHER RESTAURANTS within walking distance were around the harbour in Latchi - a 10-15 minute stroll away along a pedestrian/cycle path. They offer a wide choice of dishes, not just fish as some guidebooks would suggest. We ate in about five and the quality ranged from OK to excellent. The restaurant in the hotel next to the Souli is also worth a vist. STAFF were efficient and friendly. OUT AND ABOUT: I would recommend car or jeep hire, and a good map, to explore more of the island. You can hire through your tour operator, the hotel, or a few places in the village. Look out for extras when making your choice! The local bus went by three times a day - west to the Baths of Aphrodite and east to Polis via Latchi. We waved it down outside the hotel. You can book excursions, boat trips and water sports in Latchi. Taxis are also available. SUITABILITY: The majority of our fellow guests were middle-aged or, like us, retired. However, I consider this hotel suitable for adults of any age who wish to stay in an inexpensive hotel in a beautiful quiet spot by the sea and who don't mind the lack of a sandy beach.
Perfect Holiday
from camtrek
Booked this holiday with First Choice and was a little worried as it was only 2 star. No problems, it was only 2 star because of its size. The hotel deserves 5 stars for its cleanliness and food. Booked half board which allowed us to have either a lunch or evening meal. The beachside restaurant is a wonderful place to eat. The hotel is probably more suited to couples and older people as there is no daytime entertainment. Suits me fine! The whole experience is really relaxing . Am going back in 2008 and lots of the guests have been there many times. You will need a car if you plan to leave the hotel and they will arrange this for you . Go and enjoy.
