Occidental Allegro Blau Mar Hotel

This is a good hotel spoilt by the resteraunt experience. We had a sea view room on the 6th floor, which was great. The beach is 100 yards away. Railway Station 5 minutes walk. 1 hour 40 mins to Barcelona.Staff very helpful. Pool area good and safe for children. Hotel in the quiet area of Salou, 10 -15 mins walk along the front to the hustle and bustle. Now for the bad bit, the resteraunt. Breakfast at certain times is like a cattle market, you have to queue for the coffee/tea machine sometimes 10 people waiting. You have a choice of scrambled eggs, and some type of bacon most dys, the rest is of a continental theme, pastries and cheese etc. This does not vary. The constant banging of plates by the waitresses as they clean the tables is a nightmare, and its the same at evening meal. It is more like a cafe. If you are looking for a nice quiet meal at night this is definately not the hotel for you. The 1st night we had a fish theme, which was really good, prawns, salmon etc, if you didnt like fish not much you could do. Next night appeared to be an american night, Burgers and Sausage in buns ! An Italian night followed with Pizza, and then a Mexican night which I could not really describe. There are two tables with ham and cheese, and pastries on, one table where the chef prepares the fresh food, and one table with the chips and potatoes on. Then one table with the sweets. Not much variety on the night, noisy, not a good experience. Definately not a four star because of this resteraunt. A shame because the hotel itself and staff are OK. Not for couples, more young children, or go B and B and eat out. One final point if you have a room with a pool view you will be looking out over a block of flats which are falling to bits, and cover one side at the rear.
