Unfortunately, my husband and I HAD to stay here for the PanAmerican games and although overall we enjoyed the Dominican, our stay at hotetur was just awful! Now, I have been to India, Thailand and other 3rd world countries but never had an experience this bad! The bed in... more

Nice weather, but that's all...
For the amount of money that we paid, my friend and I were able to lie on the beach and enjoy warm water. However, the scenery included some kind of industrial equpment in the distance, cigarette butts, and unlimited harassment by vendors and aggressive men. The food in my college cafeteria was better than that at the main (and only) restaurant. Plus, frozen drinks were unavailable as the 7-11 style machines served liquid pina coladas. Our room was smelly and moldy. Otherwise, great vacation!
very good staff
very friendly staff, big rooms, good swimmingpool, there IS a private beach, 24-hours drinking and eating possibility, not very expensive, the money-quality thing is good!
hoteur dominican bay..dont go there
My two friends and I stayed at dominican bay resort. We have never been to the DR but have visited almost all the carribean islands within the last year. We landed in Santo Domingo..We all were ready to turn around and go back to the USA the minute we traveled down the main hiway. The road that led us to the " resort " was gross!! There were dead dogs all over the street, crumbling buildings and piles of trash EVERYWHERE!!!!! When we arrived at the resort we were ready to check in but was told we were early. It was 2:50pm and check in was @ 3pm. Finally we got our room which was at least 100 degrees. There was an AC but it wasn't working. There were no bath towels, none of our windows shut and there was animal feces all over the bathroom counter!!! They gave us a new room which over looked a beautiful pile of garbage which was burned every morning. To wrap this story up..the all inclusive food was resembled prison food, the alcoholic drinks were weak and served in small dixie cups and everyone including the guests spoke everything but ENGLISH!!! P.S. It wouldn't be the same if we had gone to the HILTON!!!
Many problems
I spend four days in this Hotel in May 2004. My experience was horrible. Room was in bad condition, A/C do not function, (I reported every day), and there are many cats in the restaurant waiting for food. In general, the rooms itself was falling apart; our bath ceiling had huge watermarks and a constant leak of cold water falling on your head. The hotel rates as much one star. Really needs improvement, I would not recommended anyone go there.
Amazing
Just came back from an amazing trip here. Staff was great especially in the Delimar bar down by the beach. Food was ample and excellent. Casino was small but still nice. Beach was warm and clear. Overall Excellent value for the price. If would recommend it to anybody. But people please tip! These people make like $85.00 dollars a month and from what I saw not many people tip.
BBB -> Bueno, Bonito & Barato. Good, Beautiful and Cheap.

Horrible...
This place was absolutely horrible. The beach was not a private beach but a very crowded public one. The bay was shallow and polluted and there were smoke stacks and a huge port visable from the beach. My shoes were stolen within an hour of arriving at the beach while someone was watching my stuff. The resort itself was falling apart. Our shower didn't work, our ceiling had huge water marks and felt like pieces of the ceiling could fall, we saw rats outside our window, the beds were horrible, the food was disgusting and dangerous (there was a shard of glass in our ice cream). There is loud music constantly playing at the pool or on the beach so don't plan on quiet relaxation time. The evening activities they had were a joke...definitely not a place for anyone under 30...or just anyone. I would not go back and I would not recommend anyone go there. It was cheap for a reason...and I still feel like I was ripped off.
Great Value
This was our first trip together (was our honeymoon) and we didn't much care where we went - we just wanted a week in the sun! We paid approximately $700 CND + taxes ($1000 each we everything was added in) and we felt that was good value for this place. We flew into La Romana which was a 2 hour bus ride and 6 hotel stop. Our package was priced accordingly so it really didn?t bother us; it gave us the opportunity to see the sites. The charter flight was JetsGo. This was the most painful part of our trip: small plane, poor food, no movie, no radio, delays there and back.We booked last minute online through itravel2000. SunWing was our tour operator. Leo was the rep down there and he was great. We did not arrive until 1am, so obviously there was no dinner. Instead there hamburgers and drinks were offered at the beach bar. One group was immediately upset with this ? they did move to another resort without a problem. We were just happy to feel the warm air and stand barefoot in the white sand. By the way the hamburgers are not that great. This is not a good spot for the young at heart that are looking for a party. There are day trips and night spots (disco and the Hilton) where this could be sought out ? but if you don?t bring your own party it will be tough to find it here. Don?t expect much from the shows and you?ll have a good time at them. The guests are about 80% European (mostly French and German) with a few Canadians (very few Americans). The beach it very unique, aside from the white sand and turquoise water ? it is sheltered by a small island and break: no waves, very clear, and shallow. There is an unsightly oil refinery off in the distance to the west which kind of killed the beauty so we just pointed our chairs to the east. The beach is beautiful but public. Weekends it is busier (with more vendors) but weekdays it quiet. The Resort does have a 2-foot walled area that contains its part (this does not go to the water) which does give you shelter from the venders. Keep saying no and they will catch on eventually if you site by the water. The resort property is split into two ? connected by a walkway over a street. The 5 minute walk was fine with us ? we were on vacation and in no rush. There was always hotel security visible at the beach and walkway.I would highly recommend the catamaran ? speed boat trip to Seona (Dominica?s national park). It cost $75US and was a small price to pay for a day in paradise. I did wish we were given more time to snorkel (a stop on the way to the island). The town is full of bars and shops and is perfectly safe during the day ? at night I was told it was a little risky. There are great deals to be had but, best prices are in the town. We didn?t haggle though ? most Dominicans make between $75-250 and month and I wasn?t about to argue over a couple of bucks.I was expecting bad food but I was pleasantly surprised. We always looked forward to lunch and dinner. Big meat eaters (we are not ? we usually take small samples of every meat dish) may be a little disappointed. There was great fruit, vegetables, rice, pasta, and deserts. Go early to get the best selection. The Chinese a la carte was okay; portions were small (we went to the buffet after). There are actives like dancing lessons, scuba lessons, tennis but we spent our time de-stressing with a book and a drink in the sun.The resort is a scattering of 3-4 story buildings amongst beautiful grounds. The two pool areas were nice and clean. Drinks were strong (watch them!), beer was great, wine was the not greatest. Rooms were fine (we didn?t go to sit in them so it really didn?t bother us). No TV converter ? but you did get the staple US stuff (espn, tbs, cnn), but we didn?t really watch much except to check the time.We were really depressed to leave ? we would recommend this is easy going people, not looking for a resort with a laundry list of activities, and looking for a cheep relaxing week for good value.
I had the time of my life...
I just go back a few days ago. The staff at the Dominican Bay get 5 stars. I had a blast and met wonderful people from all over the globe. The Anamation (entertainment) team were so helpful and fun. There is all sorts of activities and games.I miss them already. The food was okay...wasn't expecting much. The rooms were clean and maintance was right there if you need them. The pools are well kept and there is plenty of lounge chairs available. The hotel has a shuttle to the casino everynight and to the disco twice a week. There is a show everynight at the hotel, dance lessons and Spanish lessons. Everything was very well organized and not once did I feel unsafe. A very short walk to the beach over a bridge and the hotel has their own secure area on the beach with food and drinks readily available. A great place to bring your kids. I can't wait to go back!!! You get more than what you pay for!!!! If you stay there say hello to the staff from Maria Margarita.
Nice to spend a week in the sun, but wouldn't recommend go back
We booked the Dominican Bay last minute and didn't pay a lot so we didn't have high expectations, just looking forward to a week in the sun. The resort is fairly clean, gardens are nice, but the rooms (especially the bathrooms) are a bit shabby and could use some fixing up. Food was standard cafeteria bland and the wine was undrinkable so we just stuck to beer. Nice pool, enthusiastic social staff although staff at the front desk often seemed frazzled. Lots of European guests and mainly families so if you're looking for nightlife you're out of luck. The beach is a few minutes walk away, via a private walkway and there is a bbq, bar, restaurant, etc down there in a private enclosed area. We sat out on the public area of the beach and while lots of vendors came by they were not much bother. The beach is nice and sheltered by a breaker so the water is shallow and calm. Just try not to turn your gaze to the west end of the beach which is dominated by an oil refinery! We went into town in the evenings for dinner/drinks. They close down the main street and set out tables in front of all the restaurants in the evenings. Sounds nice, but it's a little rough around the edges. Weather was absolutely perfect, but we wouldn't go there again.
