Hotetur Dominican Bay Hotel Reviews

Unfortunately, my husband and I HAD to stay here for the PanAmerican games and although overall we enjoyed the Dominican, our stay at hotetur was just awful! Now, I have been to India, Thailand and other 3rd world countries but never had an experience this bad!
The bed in our room was old and hard, it looked like something you should leave in the trash. There was a GIANT roach in the middle of the floor one morning when we woke up. You can't always count on running water and never on hot water.
They let the locals come and swim for a reduced rate on the weekends, which completely packed out the place and left no bottled water and very little food for those of us who were paying $150 usd a night! The staff at the front desk was semi-helpful, but we had to pay to use the internet (all inclusive?!?) and the employee running the computers was more than rude and wouldn't take our pesos - he only wanted American money before he would let us use them, and at $9.00 for 15 minutes!
The beach was packed and we were harrassed to buy something everywhere we went. I expected that in a 3rd world country but when we tried to bargain they wouldn't budge. They wanted $40 usd for a cheap wood necklace!!
The food was decent, the fruit delicious and fresh, but not worth the price we had to pay.
My advice, save your money and stay somewhere else!

I went to Dominican with my 10 year old son in Feb last minute.
I have traveled throughout the carribean over the last 20 years and have stayed at a variety of accomadations.
This hotel was definetly no Sandals Negril Jamaica but it also wasnt $600.00 us dollars per day it was $100.00.
My son loved the food the first few days then he only wanted fruit and bread. I found breakfast was pretty good, the rest so so .
Biggest problem my son encountered was the first few days no other people spoke english, he still made friends and had other kids to play with , it was a great learning experience for him.
As for the rooms, it was more like a posh camping experience than a luxury hotel stay . Yes things were old and run down compared to Canadian standards, but that is the point of traveling to see how other nationalties live. The staff at the bars and pool areas and the groundkeepers and maids were excellent, front desk staff was a bit lacking in effort.
If you are looking for a very economical place and arent bothered by staying a bit rustic this is the place. Excellent pools and very peaceful great location for walking about and exploring town with a child during the day, wouldnt recommend taking kids out at night outside resort.
If you are the type of person who finds McDonalds as great food you can stay here, if the Keg is a low end restaraunt too you dont stay here.
