great holiday

Oct 2010, Laura Leigh

me and two of my girls went to the ionis in July this year and i can honestly not fault the place. They are obv very proud of their hotel , which it totally justified so as long as you respect their hotel you will get the same back. Even when strolling in at 8am the staff were super friendly - tho dont annoy Adonis the evening security as much of a friendly bear he is he can get v mad v quick !! amazing location its right on the strip and the beach - just loved it and already booked to go back.

Good and Bad

The hotel is very clean and well presented with a maid cleaning your room every day. Dont expect to get a good nights sleep, theres constant noise from the strip and inside the hotel. The owners are moody and un helpful but the staff are really nice and friendly. The breakfast is not worth waking up ewarly for!!! The air conditioning is a whopping 7 euros per day!!!!!

i have just come back from my holiday at the ionis hotel in laganas today, and i am soooo sad!the hotel is great!the staff are friendly, and really helpful, whether it be the staff at reception, the staff serving at the pool bar,or the late night security gaurd.the only thing i can say that isnt great,is that the breakfast in the morning isnt to great, its a bit crappy, but we just had bacon and cheese toasties from the pool bar instead which were great!lol.also, just be careful and mindful that you dont break anything in your room,as u do risk losing the 30 euro deposit that you pay as you arrive.but as long as your are repsectful and honest, its ok.i read awful reviews of this hotel after id booked my holiday, and was really scared about staying there, but its a lovely hotel, and in an awesome location,so they have to be wary of rowdy teens and 20 somethings staying there and maybe damaging and breaking things when drunk(im 26,and my mates are 22 ans 24),but we had no problems.i would recomend paying for air-con in the room, cos they get soooo hot in the nights, and are very warm in the days aswell even with the balcony doors open.the local beach isnt that great, but we stayed by the pool most days,so didnt lose out there.all in all,a great hotel, and im looking at going back and staying in the ionis in september already!!

This hotel is made out to be [--] but its NOT! its the best hotel in Zante! Everyone who came in to our room said it was like a palace compared to theirs! Vortek is soooo cool and isnt as bad as made out. The 'battle axe' is a babe ad is nice. Rooms are lovely and the bad rev30ews are alot of rubbish!! We would recommend this hotel to any under the age of 30. IT IS AMAAAAASING!!!!! xxxxxxxxx

I just got back from zante and was amazed how good the holiday was. I was really worried going to the ionis after reading the online reviews about people been charged for stupid things and the staff been horrible. This is NOT true. We payed a 30 euro deposit and had it back even though i friend of mine got nail polish on the sheets. The receptionists were lovely especially lynne who was very helpful. Spoke with the owners a couple of times and they were nice and polite too. The security guard vortek was very friendly and would also help if u needed it. He also cooked an amazing barbecue!!
The hotel is right on the strip with all the bars and clubs wich have amazig deals such as a cocktail and 4 shots for three euros. Plenty of stuff to do with the reps as well such as pub crawls, jailbreak and booze cruz! Even though we were right on the strip it wasnt very noisy in the hotel and the rooms were always clean and tidy. There are plenty of good places too eat such as olympic flame that do cheap food that tastes good or michaels- they have amazing food especially there michaels steak and there staff are really friendly.
i would recommend laganas and the hotel ionis to anyone. the place is not a bad place 2 be as long as you respect the staff and dont cause trouble on purporse its great. i give it 10 out of 10!!

on arrival to the hotel i was quite worried about what i was getting myself into as i had been told about most of the bad reviews. When i arrived i was suprised to see how nice the hotel looked. The receptionist tened to keep talking which was annoying as me and my 8 friends had been travaling all day and just wanted to go up to our rooms. We booked 3 ajoining rooms, when we arrived it turned out 2 of the rooms where opisit each other while the other room was all the way down the corridor. We then later relised we had to pay £7 for air-con which took the piss. When leaving your room to go out or go by the pool hide your important belongings as my sun glasses went missing. The breakfast was crap and the orange juice tasted like paracetamol. The food they had for lunch was nice though. The hotel was on the strip of the clubs which is great if you dont want to be away from the party life. I didnt find the hotel to noisy seeing as its right next to the clubs. The worst thing about this hotel is the constant worry about damaging anything etc. If something does get broken or damaged try to fix it first! ALSO dont let them think that your quite and a push over. Stick up for yourslef and dont let them treat you like a child

We got back from the Ionis yesterday and had a wicked time!! Was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews for the charges but we had our full deposits back at the end. It's a lovely hotel with nice rooms and the reception staff were all lovely too. Yes its a bit rowdy in the nights but we expected that being located right in the heart
of laganas!! Id definately stay here again and reccommend it to others. The breakfast wasnt up to much but for 4 euros u couold get a full engolish just up the road in chevvys or down at fishermans on the beach. Fab hotel and wicked holiday

On arrival we were checking in just as breakfast was opening. This is the worst breakfast I have ever seen. The orange juice is weaker than **** and the food is as fresh as a fat kid's armpits running up a hill. The rooms were basic and the charge for air-con is awful, as the air-con is rotten! The hotel tries to charge you for everything from towels being dirty to shower curtain rails being missing. When you arrive make sure you write everything down on the sheet. The staff are nice and Vortek the security guard is an animal! To have friends come into the hotel you need to pay 30 euros. The pool is nice and the hotel is pleasant. If possible I'd look at another hotel in the area. Watch out for the owners. They'll try and empty your wallets.

The Ionis has had some bad press for charging for damages, so we were a little apprehensive when we booked, but the last-minute price was too good to resist! The form you have to fill out on arrival is a little daunting, as you have to detail any imperfections in your room. Take the time to do this properly and insist on a photocopy. Don't trash the room and you will get your deposit back! The hotel itself is brilliant - a very high standard of rooms and the cleaners are the best ever. Reception staff are all rather nice, as is the Arnie lookalike security guard, who shuts up the noisy drunks when they come back late at night. The hotel is right on the main strip and couldn't be better for location, although you pay for this with the noise level, which is very high by any standards. If you don't like the sound of partying from 9 at night to 7 in the morning, don't come here. I'd echo previous reviews about the Mr. Dallas restaurant almost opposite, great breakfasts and good quality Greek(ish) food, although the menu is a little limited. Look for the day's specials. Back to the hotel.. the artwork is rather good, the breakfast is limited and totally unchanging... boiled eggs, rather nice fresh rolls, butter, coffee, bits of cheese and uninspiring luncheon meat.... worth going down for though. I get the feeling that the Ionis is a concept hotel which originally aimed for a higher grade of clientele and ended up with coach parties of football hooligans (but then, we are 50 plus with more traditional values). I'm not surprised they are cagey, given the atrocious behaviour of some of the guests, throwing McDonalds cartons, fag ends and dirty towels and underwear off the balconies (they landed on our balcony). This was a great hotel with some very inconsiderate guests and too much noise. Really close to the beach, nice staff, excellent no-pressure Thomsons rep. It was certainly a different experience, and I might just try it again.. smiles.

I have just got back from a weeks stay at the hotel ionis, and i was really worried about going as I had read all these reviews before we went. 3 of us went and shared a room so I made each of us bring our own sheets and towels so we didnt use theirs. When we first got there we had to fill in the damages sheet which was fine, and we also took photos to back it up. We then went to a welcome meeting with the reps Sam & Jeff, we didnt go on any of the excursions but the reps were still really nice and came and chatted to us every day. The hotel pool was really good and there were free lilos. The security guard Vortek was lovely and chatted to us each night when we came in. A few people had told us to be careful because they had been charged for towels and things, so I checked with the receptionist and she told me that people only got charged when they stained the towels with fake tan and henna tattoos and that they washed the towels before charging anyway. Our favourite 3 places to eat were Michaels, Cool Peppers on the beach and Chevys. The breakfast at the hotel was fine but there wasn't that much of it. All in all we had a great stay and the hotel really was top notch. I think if you go there and keep your wits about you aswell as respect the people and the place, you will be fine!

After reading reviews on holiday watchdog about this hotel being a money making scam and charging people for damage they had not caused, me and my friend were worried about our holiday.
We arrived at the Ionis to a lovely welcome from our reps Sam and Jeff, they told us all about the excursions etc that were on offer, my friend and i however had little money and just wanted to relax. The reps never pushed anything on us, and were super friendly everyday. The hotel staff were lovely, especially the new receptionist who couldn't do enough to help us.
We came across the woman all the reviews call the 'dragon lady', and she does look a bit scary. we decided the best thing was just to be polite to her and she was polite back. The security guard Vortek was lovely, we came in drunk every night but respected other guests and kept quiet so we had no problems with him, and having him around made you feel safer.
We did witness a few people paying money because of damaged towels, bed sheets etc. Some of these payments seemed a bit silly for example sun cream stains. I understand a hotel charging if you maliciously/drunkedly break something but they are very strict about minor marks, so be warned! My friend and i used our own towels, which meant they wouldn't be able to charge us if by accident we got make-up or something on them.
i do reccomend you write any minor details down on the sheet you are given at the beginning of your stay. I basically put 'minor damage' at the side of everthing on the list, because if you do miss a tiny hole in a curtain they WILL charge you for it. Before we signed the sheet we also wrote that we would respect the room... it sounds like a lot but it only takes five minutes and could save you your deposit,or any other expenses.
At the end of our week stay at the Ionis we both received our 50 euros deposit back with no problems. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful, although the breakfast wasn;t great, but there's a little restaurant accross the road from the hotel called Mr Dallas that sell breakfast foods and snacks for 3-4 euros, and the staff are very friendly.
i'd also reccomend Michaels restaurant on the main strip and the three lions bar next door to the restaurant!!! 6 nights of pure fun with the crew in there
