The Sunrise apartments are far better than their picture. Quite spacious and modern most with a balcony, some with great views. Their position is ideal for getting into the village and out and about. The mini bus that meets the ferries stops outside. Which can be very useful after you have negotiated the walk up from the port/beach a few times!
The lady who looks after the Sunrise is very friendly but speaks very little English. Other members of the family can be seen around the place but if you did need to speak to someone the large taverna at the port of Spira is owned by the same person. If you include the tavernas at the port you have seven to choose from while staying at the Sunrise. However, we went in early September and one or two of them had started closing.
Do make time to eat at the small pizza place. George is very friendly and his Greek dishes are very good, as well as his pizza. Be warned if you need bread go out early to buy it. There are three small minimarkets in the village so you can get essentials but if you are looking for a wide selection of provisions then I suggest you bring them over from Lefkas. At this time there are no cash facilities on Meganisi - make sure you take enough cash with you over from Lefkas, and don't think you can rely on paying by card as only one taverna takes cards and he isn't keen!
Outside of the two main villages there are tavernas around the coast but not as many as you usually find in Greece so be prepared and take at least some water with you. Walking in Meganisi is a pleasure even when you have to stick to the road as there are so few cars but be warned there are some quite steep climbs.
If you like peace and quite then this is the island for you - we'll definitely go back.
