" We really enjoyed our stay at the... "

We really enjoyed our stay at the Arisvi apartments. They were perfectly situated for us (cross the road and on the beach!) as we have a 2 year old daughter and we could just pop back to the apartment for food/drink/sleeps whenever we needed to. The beach was great too - very shallow and sandy with a nice breeze to keep you cool.
Local restaurants and tavernas excellent - our favourite was Ambrosia - try their Prawn Saganaki - the best I've ever had!
Christina the owner of Arisvi speaks excellent English and was very welcoming. There is a book exchange shelf on the ground floor which was brilliant.
The playground right outside the apartments was closed which was a shame because our daughter would have loved it.

Skala Kalonis is the ideal do nothing resort. A very nice beach but some sea grass, you can walk quite a distance in shallow waters.
We visited nearly all the restaurants & tavernas but adopted the Akti by the harbour for after dinner drinks, the staff being very friendly. The fresh fish and local meses were very good in all of the restaurants. The accommodation was ideal and spotless, the staff always very friendly. The village was, however, having a problems with stray dogs that liked to adopt people for the fortnight.
My only complaint was the amount that the hotels were charging to exchange travelers cheques, the rep advised this was the best. I was much cheaper to see the lady in the gift shop in the square. I would certainly visit the Island of Lesvos as stop in Skala Kalonis again.

To give these apartment even a one is being generous. The bathroom especially the toilet hadn't been cleaned during the whole season by the looks of it.
I had to go out and buy bleach etc to clean it myself. The maid only emptied the bin during our 2 week stay. We were not the only ones to complain either. The only good thing about these apartments were they were right over road from beach.
Also, there was a kiddies playground right outside our room (not good if you want a quiet holiday).
Fortunately we were out all day every day.

" Just come back from a delightful two... "

Just come back from a delightful two weeks staying Arisvi Apartments in Skala Kolloni.
Skala Kolloni is not a place to stay if you are looking for bars and night clubs, but ideal if you want a slow relaxed holiday. Most activity is based around the square. Transport is a problem as there is no regular bus service (I think one bus a day) to anywhere. A taxi to Kolloni is only four Euro where you can find more shops and bigger supermarkets. Car and bike hire is everywhere.
Ron and Beryl who run on of the Wet & Wild sun lounger concessions on the beach are so friendly and helpful the enhance you stay. Vassa and Christina at the Arisvi are great, friendly and helpful.
The Manos rep Roslinda was a gem, so approachable, went out of here way to help (her hubby as well) Roslinda would chat to you when ever she saw you, on the beach or in the Tavernas.

Arisvi is basically beach front, couldn't be better if you want a really lazy holiday...
The apartment was small and simple, but clean and functional. Because we had 2 children they used the 'living room' as their bedroom (fold out chair-beds) so at night we only had our bedroon or the balcony, but as most of the evening was spent in the local tavernas where children are welcome/part of the furniture this was no major problem.
Vasso, the apartment owner, was always on hand to advise upon the island, to book taxis (you can hire a car but we fancied a break from driving) and generally help where she could to make our stay comfortable. She is delightful.
Air con is quite expensive (cost us 5 euros per day per room so 140 euros for the 2 weeks...) but this is pretty standard daily charge as far as I can tell, you can pick and choose the days you want it, and with temperatures reaching 40 degrees during the day and still pretty warm at night it was sometimes a blessed relief
'Kitchen' is a bit of an overstatement. You wouldn't want to / be able to cook much more than a tin o'beans, but then why would you on holiday - lots of local tavernas, most of which are quite acceptable, Sampos on the beach front at the other end of town is quite good, if you can put up with the dogs/cats (they are a bit of an issue in Skala), and Omiros next to the Arisvi apartments is particularly good - run by wonderful and generous folk who we became very fond of.
Outside the apartments is a playground which the kids, both local and tourist, love. In true Greek style it is at it's busiest between 10pm and midnight!
The only potential 'complaint' was the beach itself, quite coarse sand (as is most of Lesvos) but more of an issue the fact the sea can be weedy and not the typical tourquoise you expect in Greece - it is within a very large bay which only has a narrow entrance from the open sea, so does not have the same replenishing currents. However it's clean enough, warm and so shallow our 3 year old could in places walk out 50 yards or more!
If you want more 'typical' sea head for Molyvos, half hour taxi journey over the mountains. A picture postcard town on a hillside, big castle on top, harbour and beaches below. Some great bars/eateries, lots of jewellery and clothes shopping, and quite good snorkelling (although if snorkelling is your thing I would say it is better on other islands such as Keffalonia).
Our over-riding memory of Lesvos will be the warm and approachable people, something we have found in all the Greek Islands.
Skala, and Arisvi itself, provide a great base for travelling around, or for lazing on an extensive beach on the doorstep.
