El Greco

After initially being wrongly allocated one studio flat (we had booked 2 double rooms for 4 people) the staff were friendly and sorted out the mistake quickly. Rooms were spacious and had good a/c, but little else besides and certainly not 4 star worthy IMO. Hotel has two lovely pools - one with a bar and a jacuzzi. Breakfasts were very nice. The El Greco has a great location. It is an easy 5 minute walk to the center of Thira. Yet it away from the noise. On the way to town there is a market that even sells freshed squeezed oj. Our room was white marble with yellow walls. It was very large and cheerful. The pool area is very pretty and well taken care of.The breakfast was good not outstanding. The one drawback was the staff was abrupt and not very helpful.However I would recommend the El Greco since it is an excellent value.

My partner and I stayed at El Greco early last month and cannot say enough good things. The staff were friendly, accommodating and willing to assist whenever possible. The views across the Caldera are fantastic. The major appeal for us was the fact that this hotel is slightly away (about 5 min walk, 30 sec scooter ride) from the hustle and bustle of Fira. We were booked into the El Greco as part of an island hopping tour package. The hotel at first glance seemed quite nice from the exterior. The larger pool area was well maintained and perfect for sunning. The rooms however are a different story. Our first room had nothing in it but twin beds, an empty mini-refridge, and a wardrobe. My husband and I throughly enjoyed our stay at El Greco in July. The hotel was well kept and the rooms were to a good standard with fresh towels every day. People need to remember that a greek 4 star is not the same as a british or american 4 star as the country is not as wealthy. The airconditioning worked well. The food at the pool bar was fine and the centre of Fira is only a 5 minute walk away if you want something more substantial. Fira itself is wonderful...beautiful sunsets but don't expect cheap cocktails!

We stayed at the El Greco Hotel, Santorini in May, 2005. We thoroughly enjoyed the large, beautiful pool area and spacious rooms. The hotel is only a short walk to the main town of Fira on a flat road and there is a little supermarket closeby. The large grounds of the hotel and relatively few steps certainly contrast with many of the villas in Fira with their steep steps and lack of a pool area. The El-Greco hotel is all and all quite nice but definitely does not deserve to be a four star hotel. The advatages of this hotel are: 1. Nicely decorated rooms 2. Two nice swimming pools and a jacuzzi. However: - There is a small walk to Fira which sometimes can be quite teduius if the weather is hot. - Breakfast is mediocre at best. - Maintenance of rooms should be improved: for example in our room it was quite hard to open and close the door properly. - No AC while you are not... more

Just a 5 minute walk and you are in the heart of Fira with loads of tourists and lots of noise. El Greco was a perfect location to join the fun in town or a quiter time by the pool or pool bar. Nice size rooom, very clean and the staff was great. Parking for a rental car if needed or taxis will come when the front desk calls for you. We had 4 rooms and every one was very pleased. Nice breakfast, beyond what I expected. Price was very fair considering the location. 2 pools and a child's pool too. Lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas.... more

We stayed at the El Greco Hotel, Fira, Santorini in September 2004 for 2 weeks. Booked independently over the web for flights and accommodation and got a good deal so no complaints about that. Reception was very efficient with well trained staff who were always helpful and polite - they were always ready to chat and gave us lots of info about restaurants, booked taxis etc. We had lots of laughs with them during our stay. Absolutely wonderful. We spent a week here on honeymoon in October 2004. Service, cleanliness and lay out of hotel all superb. We are going back this year and taking the family with us.
