" This is one of the most enjoyable... "

This is one of the most enjoyable holidays we have had. The hotel is excellent and provides everything that you might want in a beach holiday.

The Santo Miramare is a modern hotel and by greek standards it is high class. The room is fairly basic but of a good size and the double bed is very large, the bathroom is clean and modern but fairly basic. The room is cleaned daily to a very high standard. Our room was on the top floor of three, and the view over the pool area to the beach and sea beyond was fantastic, although if a view is important to you then make sure you get a top floor room, as the floors below would not provide the same view.

The pool area is of a good size with two swimming pools, an unheated jacuzzi pool and a childrens pool. There are a good number of sunbeds and umbrellas, the top spots seem to go early but there were always others to choose from. One of the best aspects of the pool area is that nothing feels crammed with plenty of space between the pools and different clusters of sun beds. The pool bar opens at 10 and has a waitress service at all times through to 1 in the morning. The staff are really friendly and give the impression that nothing is too much trouble. Lunch is served at the pool bar providing a typical range of greek taverna options. For those that prefer the beach the hotel has a private area of beach 50 yards from the pool area providing further sun beds on the coarse black sand beach. One word of caution is that the sea gets deep quickly.

Breakfast and supper are in the main restaurant. Breakfast is a wide choice from a hot english type breakfast to the more typical continental, fruit and cheese options. The quality is reasonably good, better than many other similar hotels I have visited. We only had one evening in the restaurant but it was a small choice and of a good standard, at only 15 euro it felt better value than some tavernas.

There were a wide range of tavernas on the beach strip around the hotel and along the 2km road to Perissa. The best and by far the most expensive was Seaside which is 400 metres to the right as you leave the hotel by the beach road gate. The quality of the meal was superb with a blend of modern Greek and European fusion cooking, but with starters around 8-10 euros and main meals 14-22 euros it is out of line with other nearby restaurants. Also to the right is a fine fish taverna called The Nets, well worth a try but if your fish is priced per kilo do get a definite price before you confirm your order, some friends we met out there forgot to ask and got a bit of a shock. The other restaurants are all relatively good, we never had a bad meal in 14 days, so keep trying different ones. We were told that the locals all rate Ammos and had two very nice evenings there.

We went on the Caldera Cruise taking in the volcano and hot springs. The view from the top of the volcano is spectacular and is well worth the effort. The hot springs are a little disappointing being really just slightly warmer dirty sea water. If you come to Santorini you really should take a boat trip as the views of the Caldera are amazing.

The only disappointment is that the days of Greece being a cheap place to visit seem to be over, or at least they are on Santorini, the current poor exchange rate makes every thing feel more in line with British prices.

" This hotel, as with almost all Greek... "

This hotel, as with almost all Greek hotels, is slightly over graded as a 4 star establishment. That said the rooms are functional, very clean and entirely adequate.

The swimming pools complex is superb, the complex is yards from the beach, and, during our stay we enjoyed peace and tranquillity.

The staff at this hotel we found to be simply outstanding, helpful, cheerful and courteous nothing was too much trouble and the service was superb.

The beach road from the hotel is not for the faint hearted as there is no pedestrian walkway and we encountered several hair raising moments as we sought to dodge speeding cars, quad bikes, and scooters.

Perivolos is a developing resort, 2km from Perissa, the location is excellent, it is next to a black volcanic sand beach and encompassed by an array of Greek tavernas of varying quality; albeit reasonable food can be had cheaply.

The resort seems to enjoy a constant sea breeze which, very pleasant when light, can become quite fierce, care is advised when sunbathing while the sea breeze prevails as the risk of sunburn seems to increase.

We would certainly go back again.
