" Viva Menorca "
Submitted By: The WrightsThe rooms were adequate for our needs with ample storage space to hang clothes rather than live out of a suitcase. The kitchen was small and basic meaning you couldn't cook a meal, but if you eat out of an evening as we did then this is not a problem.
Our only problem with Menorca was the extortionate price of everything, would suggest you buy ice creams, drinks etc from local supermarkets and store in your fridge rather than buy from pool side bar. Eating out was very expensive also but as we were self catering we had little alternative. Although expensive, the food was great and all restaurants had good kids menus.
A trip to Citadella is definately recommended.
Although we really enjoyed ourselves, our children and us could have done with a little bit more to do in the resort and surroundings. We were too early for the water park, which opens in June.
Would definately recommend to friends.
Advice: Relaxing and very family friendly resort - highly recommended.
Activities: Citadella for the day and Pescador restaurant in the resort of Cala N Bosch
Good for: Beach
" Beautiful Holiday! "
Submitted By: sophn_3745Stayed at the viva menorca apartments in cala n bosch for a week in october with my boyfriend, and was extremely impressed!
Even though this being my very first holiday abroad, i would definitely want to come back again!
The hotel was beautifully presented, with flowers all around the archways by the pool and around the hotel, and was always spotless, with staff cleaning pretty much all throughout the day!
The rooms were very spacious, was lovely to have a balcony too as we could just relax out there if we wanted to. Was nice for the evening, just sitting down and having a few drinks. There were also cleaners coming in our room every other day, and replacing towels if needed and so on!
The Pool was brilliant! it was a great size and there were always plenty of sunbeds available so never needed to worry about getting there early at all! Everything you really need is by the pool so could always just spend the day there relaxing if you wanted! Didn't need to worry about food or drink as there is a snack bar at the pool with very good food :)
All staff at the viva menorca hotel were very, very friendly and helpful, especially the kids entertainers! There was always activities going on throughout the day, even for the adults! so there is always something to be doing!
The evening entertainment at the hotel bar was also always enjoyable, always suited for everybody!
There are shops right near the hotel, which sell food, drink, toiletries etc etc
at reasonable prices! Which was handy for us, if we wanted some snacks for our room or beach! there are also gift shops next to the supermarkets, again with very friendly staff.
On the evenings, we would head down to what was called the marina, which was about a 10minute walk. This was not really a problem as the nights were still warm and was nice to have a walk. The marina was where everything was pretty much! hundreds of boats and shops/restaurants/bars/amusements all surrounding it, definitely lots to choose from! the marina was beautiful at night as all the boats were lit up and the bars surrounding so it had a really nice atmosphere. There are also quite a few stalls out at night selling fantastic jewellery and gifts and people doing things like hairbraiding etc :)
me and my boyfriend ended up eating our evening meals at the same place every night called the brittania as we were just so impressed with the food, the service and again the staff were great in there, so friendly and brilliant with kids!
There were two beaches at cala n bosch, one just 5mins away from the marina and the other about a further 15 minute walk away, however there wasnt really any need to go to the further one as the one right by the marina was much, much better! again always sunbeds available and pedal boats were brilliant, definitely recommended! Sea was absolutely gorgeous, was in there for hours!
Weather was lovely for october! about 22/23c :)
Had an absolutely brilliant holiday, would definitely recommend for anyone with kids! however only just being me and my boyfriend, was lovely as our holiday was just so relaxing! so anyone with kids or anyone who just wants a worry-free holiday, it is perfect!
Am pretty sure we will be returning to the viva menorca apartments soon!
thanks for reading :D
" Great relaxing holiday "
Submitted By: HazolaWe had a fantastic spacious ground floor room overlooking the pool area. Everything is spotlessly clean both inside and outside the rooms.
Situated close to supermarkets for all your needs. (Bettabuy was the cheapest and closest).
Found lots of nice restaurants at the Marina. Our favourite was El Pato. Busy every night.
This place is not suitable for gangs of girls/fellas looking for partying every night.
Lots of couples with young children and grandparents.
Would go again.

Submitted By: Mr J PageThe apartments are nice, very clean, and well maintained, but perhaps a little too small. the only real complaint I would have is that the fridge was never cold enough, even turned up full our food and drinks were only just below room temperature. The electricity for your apartment switches off completely whenever you go out because your room key is used to be slotted into a kind of slot switch to turn the electricity on. The bathroom sink is actually outside of the bathroom in the hall to the bedroom, which we thought was a little odd (we stayed at the Sea Club Apartments Mallorca in 2007 they have a full bathroom, with sink, toilet and shower all in one room). There is no double bed in the bedroom but two singles pushed together with very hard matresses, had a few aches and pains after the first few nights but kind of got used to it eventually. We had noisy neighbours for a couple of days and could hear all of their shouting and arguing and the kids back-answering but they left pretty soon into our holiday. On our holiday notes from First Choice there was a section that said we would have to pay for the cot, and my wife and I disagree strongly with paying for cots, especially as there is often no such thing as a 'child price' because once the room supplements have been added you find that you're paying adult prices, even for children under two years old, and that is certainly the case with Viva Menorca. When queried with First Choice we were told that we wouldn't have to pay for a cot and in fact the shop assistant in First Choice told us she didn't know why that was there. After the first day of arriving the cot was removed from our room by the cleaners and we had to pay 71 Euros to get the cot. The kitchen utensils need to be bolstered up a little, there were no cereal bowls!
The grounds of the apartment complex are lovely, very green with lots of shaded areas, we were in a block away from the main pool and stage area, very quiet, which was good as we've got two toddlers. But be warned, the door is designed in a way that makes it very easy for small children to open.
The pool is a good size and temperature-wise cool, but warm enough, however there is no real kiddies' area of the pool, even in the shallow end the water was well above my 3 year old's head, she still loved it though once we bought the waterwings. There is a circular baby pool of about 2 metres in diameter, this is about a foot deep and really is tiny, and is certainly a baby pool and no more. The hotel has a policy of removing towels from sunbeds placed there in order to reserve loungers, which is only fair.
The Viva Menorca runs a buffet for breakfast and evening meal and is excellent, the food is superb, although not traditional Menorcan, but still very very good. It cost 15 Euros for the evening meal and 8.50 Euros for breakfast (per person), kids half price and under two's eat free! There is also a poolside cafe bar, which does a reasonable lunch of chips, burgers, chicken nuggets, that sort of thing.
There is an evening entertainment program for nearly every night and the acts range from quite amateur to highly professional, either way we were always entertained whenever we stayed at the hotel in the evening (often we went out and about). There is a kids mini disco which my two couldn't get enough of and the entertainers (which were French, Dutch, Swedish with perfect English, German, Spanish language skills) are really good with kids (actually, Menorcans in general absolutely love little children and my two kids were made to feel special everywhere we went). The hotel staff are all clearly very professional, and were always very polite, even when we were trying to resolve the cot issue, and they too were fantastic with my children.
Cala en Bosch harbour is a ten minute walk from the Viva Menorca, the beach about 15 minutes, probably faster for those without little kiddies. The beach is not huge, but was certainly big enough to comfortably fit everyone who was using it, it's a nice beach, and we really liked it, slightly rustic, slightly rugged, not too polished. The harbour has lots of boats all moored up and bobbing about, you can have a lovely evening in the harbour taking in the surroundings, just walking around and looking at the stalls and the shops, listening to the street musicians, while you decide which restaurant to use. When we were there there was a traditional Menorcan music and dance thing going on in the street, it was lovely. It's hustle and bustle but in the right way, great. There must be 40 restaurants (give or take) all around the harbour, mostly selling chips n burgers, chips n kebabs, chips n chips, chips n pizza, chips n chips n chips.... but there are a small few that surpass the rest, be sure to try Cafe Balear (you'll get some good Menorcan food here), Aqaurium (again some great menorcan fish dishes), and .... yes the Gran Dragon the Chinese restaurant if you get sick of chips n chips n chips. We actually found that most eating places don't do Menorcan food in Menorca, you have to look for it. We found a fantastic Menorcan restaurant called Binissues on the road to Santa Agueda sign posted 'Restaurant Museum' just as you drive out of Ferreries on the main road (some maps call it the C-721, but in Menorca it's actually sign posted as the Me-1). Binissues is a beautiful old tradittional Menorcan house serving delicious Menorcan food at about the same prices as the restaurants in the harbour.
If you decide to do any excursions be sure to look into the details for yourself, the last five days we hired a car, but we used buses for the first half of the holiday and we decided to go to the Fiesta of Mahon held on 9th September, our rep told us the last bus was at 22.55pm it was in fact at 19:00hrs, so we had to get a taxi back from Mahon to Cal en Bosch which cost 78 Euros.... about 68 pounds....... Furious or what!!!??? This was a genuine mistake on her behalf, our rep was friendly and really nice and was as helpful as she could be, and we liked her, but this small mistake cost us a packet! We saw the fiesta during the day and I'm sorry to sound uncouth here but it seemed like nothing more than one huge booze up, maybe we missed something. We explored the island as much as we could in the five days we had the car, and found that when it rains (yes it rained, but not much) many things closed, we tried to visit the mountain El Toro, but it closed when it rained so we went back a day later and they let us drive up the road to the top. The views are spectaculiar.
Menorca is beautiful, we will go back, the Menorcans will adore your children, and they smile at you. The Viva menorca is a lovely apart-hotel with professional, friendly staff. If you want a touch of Menorcan culture and tradition mixed with the modern world Cala en Bosch could be your place.
When it came to getting on the plane home there was a two hour delay.... some things never change.

Submitted By: Mrs R PhillipsThe food in the restaurant was fabulous, you couldn't fault it in any way. We had so much choice and there was plenty for the kids( and not just chicken nuggets & chips).
The entertaining staff were great so much to do through out the day. Or you could just relax by the pool. Which was great as they had a full time lifeguard, who was very nice and friendly especially when my little boy fell over and had to have it cleaned up.
I would reccomend this appartment to anyone with young or older kids, as the entertainment was excellent.

Submitted By: Mrs M LloydThe apartments were kept very clean, with maids comming in every day except thur and sun. Clean bath towels when needed and with a small deposit you could hire towels for swimming so no need to take up any room in your suitcases with bulky towels.
All staff very friendly indeed.
Weather ranged from 42 to 35 while we were their and blue skys every day.
Beach a bit of a walk (about 15/20 mins with children) but when you get there its lovely.
Dident have a bad meal in any of the restruants, but not cheap. In some it was a bit hard to make yourself understood.
I hope this is of some help to you who are reading this, We had a great time and would return to these appartments again.
Have fun were ever you end up on holiday.

Submitted By: macloganClean, friendly and helpful, in all areas, the pool, the restaurant, the rooms.
We expected it to be a bit noisy or overcrowded as we went in Aug (but due to the weak pound it wasn't as full to capacity) but there my partner and I could chill as our 5 year old played and was entertained, (and you still got a lounger if you went down at 10.30am !!).
We went to the restaurants at the marina as suggested previously in these reviews, and we weren't disappointed. The marina is about a 15 min walk... with a tired 5 year old.
We didn't need to see much of the Rep except to book Somni the horse show which we all enjoyed.
Citudella. I visited alone and is charming and easy to get to, you pay 1.75 euros on the bus , the stop is round the corner from the entrance , but on returning you buy a ticket from the office in the place where you first got off, then present it to the bus driver and get off at Titanic park for Viva or the next stop is the marina, as I found out.
There is a nearby supermarket, though small, is well stocked and the cashiers are friendly.
I must admit to self cater was a wee bit difficult in the apartment. We had to microwave our water in the cups for our tea (we could have asked for something, but we couldn't be bothered ,too many other things to do) so take a mini kettle.
Meals were is from 3 euros for a child sausage and chips at Titanic park which catered for plainer appatites for the kiddies and roughly 25 euros for 3 (2 adults and child plus one beer and 2 juices) to 37 euros for Viva's reataurant (not inc 3 juices) which is great for grown ups, but for our little one whom is a well balanced eater, didn't take to, to 60 euros for el Negro's steak house on the marina which we all loved. (Plus visit Legends at marina too, the girls are lovely to chat to :) )
We had a small ant problem which was dealt with and the air con stuggled in the hotel at first too, there was a lot of comments about that but you can see the manager very easily as he is out and about everywhere.
Finally the Childrens entertainers at Viva have the patience of saints and are adored. Yves, Heidi, Lynn and Hannah are tireless and do a great job, which starts at 9 in the morning to late evening and do the stage shows too as well as going roung the pool selling strawberries and cream. Our little one adored them and we thought so highly of them and they are the best thing in Viva to me.
The shows at the hotel are worth catching. Chicago was good as was the Celtic dancers (one of which works at Legends restaurant!), and don't miss the acrobat troop 'African Footprints'
All in all we had a great holiday and will definetly book again.
Thanks for reading :D

Submitted By: Mrs K CurtisThe complex is very clean and rooms are cleaned daily with fresh towels plus staff are contiually seen cleaning the pool area and other areas of the hotel.
We found the location perfect with 2 supermarkets just a 1 minute walk away that provided everything you counld want. The marina was just a 10 minute walk and was lovely. We enjoyed our evening meal there every night in a variety of the good choice of restaurants that were available.
Air conditioning a real benefit. Ours broke down one night but the next morning was completely replaced after reporting it to reception, we really couldn't have asked for better service.
The kids club was great with kids joining in as and when they wanted to and the evening entertainment (although a bit cheesy sometimes) was overall good fun and most families seemed to return to the hotel after eating to enjoy it.
The pool area was a real big hit with our kids and there were plenty of sunbeds. People did go down early to put towels on beds but there was always others available if you didn't do this.
We would thoroughly recommend the viva menorca apartments and will definately be returning.

Submitted By: Mr A AryanpourMy comments are as follow:
Pros
• Clean and well maintained hotel with friendly staff
• A great entertaining crew who try to cheer you up every single night
• Plenty of sun beds available for everyone (we even didn’t use one as we enjoyed the clean and hot beaches which are not far away)
• Lots of supermarkets available near by.
• Not too many mosquitos as a few reviewers mentioned , perhaps we used the air con a lot !!
Cons
• As the hotel categorised as family resort, I was expecting to see at least one kids channel on their satellite TV, but there is none. In fact the number of English speaking channels are limited. If your kids are addicted to TV (just like my twins) worth to take a portable DVD player OR your laptop with you.
• Doors don’t have a normal lock that you usually see on top of the doors in hotel rooms. Those sorts of locks which allow you to open the door only for few inches (I am not sure what they call them). As the result of above fact we had to block the main door with suitcases /chairs etc as my playful two year old son always wanted to leave the flat !!!
And finally we hired a car and used it a lot. I strongly recommend to hire one while you are there. In summery a truly beautiful well maintained family resort, we definitely considering going back there in future.

Submitted By: Miss D LEIVERSFound the hotel staff to be very friendly and helpful. The manager came to our welcome meeting even though it was his day off to tell us to ask if we had a problem with anything at all, of which we didn't. The rooms were well cleaned and so too was the pool area. Did not find getting a sunbed a problem as many of the reviews mentioned, I've been to much worse in the past.
The resort itself has a very good selection of restaurants set around a beautiful marina. The apartments are a 10 minute stroll away, the only downside is that the pavements let the resort down and are in need of much repair. There are two beaches, one which is quite a walk away, but we spent the whole of the holiday around the pool as it had everything we needed. The entertainment for the kids was well-organised. Children could join in the daily activities as and when they wanted. This is excellent for younger children up to 6, having said that my 9 year-old was never bored and enjoyed many of the activities.
The evening entertainment was varied and there was something for everyone to enjoy. The Freddie Mercury and Robbie Williams tributes were especially good.
There is a bus stop just around the corner from the apartments that takes you to Ciutadella in 10 minutes and costs 1.70 euros which is well worth a visit.
If I had to give any negatives at all, the only caution is to watch out for the mosquitos in the evening and take plently of repellent. In terms of value for money the resort is quite expensive, but having said that it still would not put me off returning.
Would definitely consider returning here again in the future.
" We had a lovely holiday at this... "
Submitted By: Mrs J CaleyThe rooms are two storeys high and are very clean and practical if a little on the small side. We had a room round the back so it was very quiet, best holiday sleep i have ever had.
The pool is very clean, plenty of sunbeds and parasols, no need to reserve them this time of year. The grounds are very green and pretty.
The entertainers work very hard to keep you entertained, but the childrens activities are not for very long so unlike Thompson Superfamily dont expect them to be gone for very long. The night time entertainment was usually of a good standard.
The resort of Calan Bosch was lovely, not too busy and not too quiet, lots for small children to do. I would definately come back to Calan Bosch but would choose a hotel nearer the Marina.
