Submitted By: Mrs R E PardoeWe had stayed in a Sol Melia, Lanzarote when my daughter was nearly 1y and she loved it then. The Fintstones theme is evident throughout the hotel and loved by ALL the kids.
Being able to chose between lunch or dinner as our half-board option was v helpful, no notice was required - you just get your card stamped once a day. Really useful as sometimes we had days out and other days just stayed by the pool. In addtion to breakfast of course!
Food was great - so much choice and lots of new tastes for kids (and husbands) to try.
Pools and staff were awesome.
Beaches and resort were wonderful.
Only bad thing was the car hire (via Avis / Thomas Cook) - it was dreadful! We booked days in advance and only got our car at 12pm - to travel to Mahon market which finished at 2pm! (an hour away). Thomas Cook were the cheapest option to travel with but the rep was not good - disinterested and kept saying 'I'll get back to you' - but never did.
All in all it was brilliant and I would recommend it to anyone with young kids who is after an easy, quality family holiday. (Hotel Sol Falco is not cheap on drinks etc - the Marina is cheaper).
10/10 - wish we'd had 2 weeks!

Submitted By: Mr Mike Kellybut what a shock it wasntin your face ,The staff was friendly the room was cleaned every day the food was excellent even i had no complaint being the worlds fussiest eater .Didnt get involved in the entertainment but i can say the team put in a lot of hard work ,Great idea putting smaller pools around the complex so us 49 year olds could relax with a book and not get soaked. We would recommend this hotel to couples and families, This was our 15th time in menorca and we have found the prices has gone up in line with the uk.

Submitted By: Mrs R MossI can say without doubt that it was definitely 10/10 for nearly everything I want to give this a real review of all I can think of so as others can benefit so bear with me!
The food is fab, massive choice, I'm sure we have all put on weight, although there is no childrens menu there is so much choice that there really is something for everyone. My 11 year old daughter is VERY fussy and I was really worried to start with as I thought we may have problems. But she ate loads and as we stayed Full Board she had the chance to try lots of different things for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner that she may not have tried before. It is quite Mediterranean in its menu, so lots of Paella, Salads and Fruit, but there are other options like Chicken, Chips, Rice, Pasta, etc. The food hall is huge, so no real problems queuing or finding a place to sit. Waiting staff are fab (more later about the other staff) one note though to the food: If you are Full Board/Half Board all drinks apart from Breakfast drinks (where you can have unlimited coffee, juice and milk) have to be paid for, and are very expensive. A small bottle of still water 2 Euros, a tiny bottle of coke 2E 10; a small bottle of San Miguel Lager 2E 10 etc...
Rooms: Reasonably sized, 2 good sized beds for grown ups and a small camp bed for our daughter, the bigger beds are VERY hard, and lumpy!! This and the fact that the walls are paper thin are the only reasons I have not given a 10/10 overall. When I mean thin I mean thin, to the point we could hear our neighbours going to the loo!! We had very miserable neighbours one side who complained about EVERYTHING, and we heard all their whinging and shouting, which is a shame. I can't see what they had to whinge about myself! Bathrooms are large with a bath and shower, ideal when you have kids. We had a room with a terrace, which means a balcony with seating looking over a pool. Lovely!
Hotel: 7 pools, plenty of sun beds, it was half term and reasonably busy but there was loads of room to sit together and the pools are big enough to take the strain. If you have young children i.e. below 10 yrs the kids clubs looked brill, all the kids looked very well taken care of and happy. For older kids, there is less activity clubs but my own daughter wasn't bothered by this as there is plenty going on poolside to keep them amused. Wall climbing, archery, connect 4 (large scale!) table tennis etc. Night entertainment was excellent, funny and interesting for kids and adults. Again though drinks are really expensive. Lots of places to sit and there is a waiter service so no queuing at the bar.
Staff: Excellent, honestly the Menorcan (don't think that is how you spell it actually but..) people are lovely, so nice and kind, couldn't do enough for you. If you try a little Spanish like thank you, Hello, please etc they really appreciate it too. You can leave your bags in there lockable room, when you check out, All staff speak good English, and if they don't know something they find out! Thomas Cook were great over there too. Well done to Fiona the new rep who again was very helpful and kind.
Things to do etc: If you can afford it try to go the Horse Show on Thursday evenings, pick up at 4.30pm and drop off at 11pm, so a late one, but well worth it. You get to go into Cala Galdana for a while too which is lovely. We also went on the Hidden Delights trip which was ace, you go to a typical Menorcan farm, try the local produce and then onto the Caves which is a cafe during the day and a night club at night! The scenery is spectacular. It takes you around the coastline too. If we go again, which is likely I would hire a car for a couple of days as there is loads to see and its easy to get about and not get lost! Menorca is a lovely, quiet island and very family orientated too. Its small, only 35 miles long so we were told and very pretty, mainly unspolit. We went into Cuitadella on the coach one day (bus trip was 3E each, single fare) which is very Spanish indeed, and was the capital of Menorca before Mahon. Cala'n Bosch is a really quiet resort, with a nice marina and very close to a lovely beach. Its clean and the people are lovely. Some nice cafe's and restuarants on the marina to visit.
Overall: I'm pretty sure we will be back to this resort, if you are looking for a lively holiday then I would recommend either trying somewhere else (!) or hire a car to get about, it was perfect for us as a family and we loved it! The hotel made the holiday, as they couldn't do enough and it was so nice, clean and fun! From the food to the staff to the pools, it was all brilliant. If there was anything I would change it would be the walls being a little thicker and the beds being a little more comfy!

Submitted By: Dr A PibworthAnyway, all the staff spoke good English and were pleasant to talk to.
The only food we enjoyed in the restaurant were the chips. But that’s not to say the food wasn’t nice, but we liked to eat out in the nearby marina every night. THERE WAS ENOUGH VARIETY in the hotel. However the bread was as solid as frozen rocks. The rooms were nice and spacious, and the air con was lovely to have. And is a pleasure to have a balcony.
The best bit about the location is the BEACH!
It looks like one of those photoshopped turquoise pictures out of a brochure. It was sometimes a little busy due to kids running around Willy nilly but we just found ourselves a nice quiet spot in a small cove in the rocks. You can do snorkelling and see some nice Nemo looking fish. If you want to relax by the pool beware of overexcited hotel staff waking you up demanding you to play French boules, which if you politely decline you then suffer a bombardment of name calling such as " your boring". Not a problem as it was all in good jest.
The gardens are well kept and clean. The day we got there, there was hole in the pathway. We witnessed a small child trip and fall, the next day it was repaired. The path was not actually in the hotel grounds but on the path towards the beach.
Nearby is a big lively marina, with countless bars and restaurants. A lot have been taken over by the British, so if you want to stuff yourself with a full English whilst watching Peter Kay, then it’s for you. BUT, there are loads of classy upmarket places to eat, and everything is lit up with different music playing everywhere.
We would go back if we had it paid for us or won a competition. By the way it’s not worth doing half board. As there are cheap shops and restaurants nearby the beach, we had a spaghetti carbonara for £3.50. Was great. The waiters love you if you smile back and have a good looking Girl with you.

Submitted By: Miss E ShannonWe have a 12yr daughter who was holidaying with her grandparents and booked our holiday through Thomson's Holiday Auction site just a week before - we did not find out where we were staying until we arrived at the resort and couldn't have been happier.
The hotel is large, with beautifully kept landscaped areas, the pools are immaculate (we saw them being checked three times a day by a very conscientious pool man), the activities are fun with a special mention for the fantastic animations teams -we joined in archery, rifle shooting, water polo, volleyball, pool games, water aerobics and even did a scuba diving course, the school is based at the hotel and we saw all the little ones at the kids club having lots of fun. (Although it is worth mentioning that they were all under 7yrs old. I'm not sure what it would have been like had we had our daughter with us).
The breakfast and dinner buffets were fabulous. We've stayed half board before and got served cold mush but the choice was great - a VAST salad bar, fish, chicken, meat, pasta, chips, potatoes, sauces, daily specials, fruit, desserts, cheese, biscuits, cold meats...What else could you want? The breakfast buffet was equally as good and kept us going until dinner.
The resort itself is quiet. The beaches are lovely and clean and the sea crystal clear but we weren't overly impressed with the nightlife at the harbour (somewhere to boogie would have been nice). We went during the first week of September so a lot of the places were shut or empty so maybe it is unfair of me to judge but otherwise the normal mix of bars and restaurants were there - all average prices and a good selection if you weren't staying half board.
I would recommend Sol Falco to anyone.

Submitted By: chrishayley1From the start, all was well, I emailed hotel prior to arriving requesting top floor, quiet area - got it.
All staff great, they went out of their way to get you involved in entertainment. My children loved it...there is a crèche although we didn’t use it; you can leave kids with regular entertainment available.
Resort is excellent, no souvenir shops, no tat. We regularly hired 4 seater bikes went around harbour and beaches, there are several family centres which are great.
We took 20 month old, and 4 years old + 2 adults.
Going back in October.

The new phone in system does not work, we rang twice to get help. First time told according to them hotel not open. We wanted help to book trips but did not have enough info to know which trips we wanted go on, no info in Thomson’s book at hotel.
Could only book over phone using a credit card, did not want to book this way, hotel reception booked trips for us.
This holiday was part of our golden wedding anniversary celebration. The lack of reps at the hotel was very disappointing.
Food at hotel very good, resort was excellent plenty of things to do. Lovely beaches some nice walks. Would recommend the hotel. The trips we went on excellent.

Submitted By: Mrs C MarstonAppearances of Fred Flintstone and Dino in the evening for the kids, bit scary for my 3 year old but we worked through it!!! Entertainment very good, if a little late started,- at ten, but finished by about 11pm, But entertainment was inside and not near the accommodation blocks which was great ,-at last a hotel that realises some people want a bit of piece and quiet at night!
Some Pools with a life guard, including the massive children’s pool. Rooms and maid service good. Children’s entertainment good, but I felt slightly more geared for the over 4's. Little supermarket just outside the hotel. The bar drinks we felt were expensive, however a nice resort within walking distance of town, we really enjoyed it, had a good balance for adults and children and are saving up to go again!!!

Submitted By: Mrs T McNultyWith the Fred Flintstone theme throughout the complex along with the continuous entertainment for both children and adults the entertainment team and all the staff certainly made our holiday.
This is the first year our daughter participated in the children's club and once she had taken part we couldn't drag her away from the hotel complex.
There was even a separate section for the children to eat in the restaurant and a couple of times a week the children could eat breakfast with Fred Flintstone and Dino.
I would say the food was great for a 3 star hotel, chef's were on hand every morning to cook eggs to your liking and every palette was catered for.
The evening entertainment was excellent but if this wasn't to your taste or you just fancied a change then the marina with bars and restaurants was only a 5-10 minute stroll away.
This was our first visit to Menorca and we will certainly be returning to this hotel next year.

Breakfast
Meal times: 08:00 - 10:00.
Example Menu: Cereal, tea / coffee, full English, continental, bread.
Opinion: To be fair what else would you need for a breakfast?
Lunch
Meal times: 13:00 - 14:30 (Note: This was not available until full-board guests arrived for our second week.)
Example Menu: sub-set of evening meal.
Evening Meal
Meal times: 19:00 - 22:00 (18:30 - 21:00 before full-board guests arrived).
Example Menu for lunch/evening: every day: fish, paella, chicken, chips, chicken nuggets, mixed veg., potatoes, pasta, vast salad bar, soup, and lovely desserts! Once-per-week: T-Bone steak, BBQ.
Opinion: Became repetitive only into the second week. Plenty for the kids to try, and you can go back again-and-again if the kids don't like something!
Eating Area:
Buffet style, that I can see getting very congested and busy if the hotel had a higher occupancy. Food was always hot (where applicable!), and constantly refilled. Chef's available to advise on meals, and ingredients! Kiddies specific "Flintstone" section with a greater number of high-chairs located nearby (a 50/50 mix between wooden ones (like bar stools with a strap) and the plastic types). Half-Board guests can choose to have either Lunch or Evening meal as well as the breakfast.
Room:
Note: Your room card is also a key to turn on the electricity!</i> Oh, how I laughed as my wife nearly took a fit when there was apparently no electricity when we arrived. :D Anyway - we had a twin-bed (two king-size mattresses pushed together), a cot, and a little bed all in a line. As a result there was not much room available, but what would I expect with four beds in there! Room had air-con and a ceiling fan that managed to keep the room cool. Both are loud though, so the room will have to be cool enough before the kids go to bed otherwise the noise could keep them awake.
Bathroom had an over-the-bath shower. You get some soap and shower gel, a hairdryer, and the mini-bar can be cleared-out so you have a fridge. We asked for adjoining rooms on the ground floor (out of three floors) and got exactly what we wanted. No noise from adjacent rooms, or from upstairs, or from outside at night. We had a problem with the fridge turning off as we left the room. Apparently it had been plugged into the wrong socket. Handyman came within 2mins and "fixed" it for us. Our "cot" was not a travel cot - this is the only thing I can think of that was a problem - it was a cheap cot with no lowering sides and a very flimsy mattress. Take your own cot sheets as the ones available are like pieces of cardboard.
Room Service:
The same maid cleaned the room every single day, something that I thought was a nice touch as you got to know the maid a little (who was very pleasant to our kids). Every-day cleaning: towels replaced (if you left them on the floor as they ask), grubby finger-prints cleaned off the windows and mirrors, beds re-made (even if your wife has made them herself!), floor swept and washed, toilet cleaned. Twice-per-week was a major clean: entire bathroom cleaned (and your things tidied up!), bed linen changed.
Hotel Communal Areas:
Extremely clean everywhere. There was work going on (new lighting being added) but even the handyman kept his workspace clean. There were lots of bags of linen thrown from the second and third floors onto the areas below - just so the pickup truck could retrieve them easier. We never found this to be an issue. There were a significant amount of ants on the outside walls, paths, etc. we never saw any in our room (or the other couple we were staying with, or anyone else we met there) nor any cockroaches / beetles etc. As the hotel was relatively empty whilst we were there (maybe 20% occupancy) there were loads of sun loungers and parasols - I simply do not know if there would be enough if the hotel was fully occupied.
Most guests were English, with a small influx of locals over the weekends. nothing too horrible though. There is a nice three-tier fish pond at the front of the hotel - some amazingly large Coy fish that my kids enjoyed watching every day. Bearing in mind that the clientele of this hotel will be predominantly young families it was kept surprisingly quiet until 10:00 AM. The evening entertainment is far enough away from the rooms and was quiet enough not to be irritable.
Swimming Pools:
Great spacious swimming pools. varying in depth from top-to-bottom (if you view the brochure picture). Top pool with the water-spray-ball goes from 0.5m to 0.75m, middle pool from 1m to 2m. Bottom pool was 4m in depth!! Paddling pool has a step into it (not a slope) and was maybe a foot deep in the middle. All these pools were salt-water pools. There was a swimming-lane-pool that was shaded for most of the day that was 2m in depth where "senior citizens" enjoyed a relax away from the splashing kiddies. This was also the pool where the water-polo was held for the older ones. There are also a further two (maybe three) smaller pools dotted around the complex that were fresh-water and were 1.5m deep. All swimming pools were very safe (no missing tiles!) and had very visible edge paintings.
Activities:
I did not personally partake in any organized activities, but I did see the kiddies club girls organizing football and tennis with the kids. There was also (every morning as I was going for breakfast) some people getting scuba-diving lessons in the 4m pool. There are three pool tables (one euro each), table-tennis (free), cards / dominoes etc (free) all under a canopy to keep the sun off your back.
Marina:
The Marina is maybe half-a-mile away. a walk along a rather un-smooth path (horrible for pushchairs!) from the hotel. Absolutely fantastic place. There is a nice little play-park for the kiddies tucked away in the corner with bouncy castles, a small water-park, go-carts, trampolines etc (all at 3 euros per session). There are lots of different places to eat and just about all of them with specific kiddies menu (nuggets / sausage / burger / fish fingers and chips etc) and some with the better plastic high-chairs. None played really loud music - but then again, we were finished our meals and back to the rooms by 20:00 so we were hardly out late! There is a road-train (Choo-Choo) that leaves from the Marina every 30mins that travels around the resort - a nice way to see the "other" beach and the lighthouse etc. It actually stops right outside the hotel if you fancy a cheap ride home! :D
Beaches:
The Cala n Bosch beach beside the marina was quite busy in early-July so I would hate to see it when the resort is busy. But even better is the "other" Son Xoriger beach in the opposite direction - maybe a 10mins stroll away (on nice paths). And past some amazing villa's. Both beaches were extremely clean, and both had sharp rocks on each side (so take some flip-flops!). Both had rows of sun-loungers but there was a local cost for these. My son got stung by a jellyfish on the beach, so you should be aware that they are lurking on these beaches, but to be fair this was the one-and-only that I saw and my son still managed to get stung by it! The restaurant close-by was very understanding when I pinched three bottles of vinegar! - not that they had much choice.
Resort:
Not really much going on - you have to go to the Marina. You certainly would not go to Cala n Bosch for a pub crawl. It is ideal for families with younger kids maybe up to five or six years old (if they will still happily bounce on a bouncy castle!). A token Irish bar. A typical Brit bar (Britannia) that tried desperately hard to lower the tone with karaoke and poor entertainment, although did serve surprisingly good food.
Cost:
Ice-Creams and drinks were the same as they are in England. Evening Meal (2 adults, 2 kids): 35 Euros (incl. cokes and deserts for everyone). Overall the cost was great. probably due to the Euro hitting 1.50 exchange just as we were there (so Brit's getting 50% extra for each pound!). Not once was I shocked at what I was paying for an item.
Overall opinion:
A fantastic holiday that all-in-all (incl. hire cars) came to a touch over fifteen hundred quid for two adults and two kids. We exchanged six hundred quid for spending money and without holding back managed to spend it all (just!) in the fortnight. Absolutely brilliant. Got exactly what we wanted, for a good price, that was safe and entertaining for the kids.
