After having stayed at this hotel I am surprised at how good the other reviews are. The beach is great but the hotel itself is distinctly average. I would only recommend staying here if you want to hear 'Agadoo' and Celine Dion's entire back catalogue played every day at a... more

We can recommend it!
My wife and I have just returned from a 1 week all inclusive stay at Les Orangers. We both throughly enjoyed it and can recommend it. So much so we are already thinking about a return visit which is ubusal for us as we always like to try somewhere new each year. Our accommodation, was in the block which overlooks the beach, room number 1028 on the ground floor. The hotel is split into a number of blocks and unfortunately we can only comment upon our own block. There was some work going on, repairs to footpaths and refurbishment of what looked like beach apartments/villas, but the work was unobtrusive and didn't effect our stay. The room we stayed in was basic but very, very clean with 2 queen size double beds, air conditioning, TV, phone, fridge, built-in wardrobe, bathroom with shower over the bath. Patio doors led onto a small patio/balcony with just enough room for 2 plastic chairs and a small table, a little bit skimpy size wise but enough room to sit outside and 'chill out'. There are no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms so you might want to consider bringing a travel kettle if you like a cuppa by yourselves! The staff in the hotel are fantastic and cannot do enough for you particulalry at meal times. All the meals are buffet style and the choice is a bit limited but what there is is good enough. There is a beach restaurant and bar, the main restaurant, a pool snack bar and bar/coffee area in the hotel. All of them are very clean and tidy. The paninis at the pool are great for an extra snack at anytime! The beer is excellent, the drinks are great with very generous measures. The Tunisian wine was a real surprise and is very very good. At meal times you can have as many bottles as you want!! When we stayed the hotel had no more than 80 people staying there, which suited us. I'm not sure I'd like to stay there in peak season as I think the facilities might struggle to cope but maybe some other reviewer could help with that? The 'disco' is very small and the entertainment which is 'Butlins' style, complete with bingo, goes on too long and we never did get a chance to have a 'disco' and a romantic dance because the organised entertainment went on too long! But never mind! The indoor pool is excellent and when we stayed very clean. The sauna is great but only fits in a couple at a time, the masseur is good but expect to tip him! Like many of the staff he tells you he has a wife, lots of chidren and in-laws to support, doesn't earn much, 10 dinars a day, so hint hint, a tip would be appreciated! The hotel is right on the beach with staff supervising it and carrying your deckchairs for you! The sea had quite alot of rubbish in it at the time but we had a couple of very windy days early on and this may have been why? The hotel beach is right in the middle of a very large bay. The beach was very clean with nice soft sand. The hotels all claim the area next to them as their own 'private' beach. The hotel had no water sports of it's own other than a tatty wind surfer. Watch out for the beach sellers, I wouldn't recommend buying anything from them as everything is 1 dinar until you come to buy it! And watch out, they never have any change so if you do buy something make sure you have the right money. We heard they promise to come back with the change but never do, although we didn't buy anything so can't speak from experience. The Police patrol the beach and move on the beach sellers as do the hotel staff. DO NOT GO ON A CAMEL RIDE ON THE BEACH! He is a rip off merchant and charged one bloke 40 dinar for a couple of minutes up and down the beach! If you go on a safari you get an hour and halve for 18 dinars! Granted you'll have to fork oot for the trip but it puts the price of the camel ride in perspective. If you really want a camel ride on the beach haggle and don't pay more than 10 dinar!!! The medina in Hammamet is an experience, but non of the shop owners will let go by without hasseling you so be prepared! We had a great time with no real complaints. We did hear one couple had ants in thier room but my advice is pack a tin of ant & cockraoch spray and a tin of fly spray. A couple of quid well spent! There are mosquito's so come prepared, the fly spray is great for them just before you go to bed! By the way be prepared for a good 2 hours on the coach from the airport, Thomson, who we travelled with, didn't tell us and we had rubbish flight times so the coach trip was the worst part of the journey for us being in the early hours of morning! But my wife says, tough, I moan too much, just put up with it! We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did if you decide to go! Good luck!
faulty towers
Stayed at this hotel for two weeks in August 05 would be very carefull when booking this hotel as it is split into two parts there is the old part with its small challet like rooms which are very shabby and in desperate need of repair and modernisation and there is the newer part overlooking the beech with bright clean rooms (although you do have to share with the ants) we arrived in the newer building after turning down two other rooms in the older complex due to them being very dirty, smelling of damp, broken beds ear wax on one pillow, no air conditioning and the obligetry ants. The hotel in general is in need of an urgent makeover the outdoor pool is to deep for the children and the childrens pool is a very small hole in the ground accessable by ladder (honest) and still to deep for toddlers. the food is very repetitive (would be great for one week but not two) not much choice for children though chips and pizza waiters are very good though as is the majority of staff very polite and attentive (not the managment) evening entertainment is good for the kids and the staff put on a good show (plenty of laughs). Beach is fantastic gently shelving waters and very clean didnt get bothered at all by the looky looky men, staff on hand to get deck chairs. would not recomend the stables at all as the horses look ill treated and under fed. Over all we would not go back to this hotel due to the problems we had on arrival (to many to go into) lots of similar complaints from other guests when we where there also lots of people going down with diahorea and vomiting i put this down to the pool not filtering. this hotel is in a good location but is let down by its tatty 70s style apperance and uncleanleness if you want cheap this hotel offers you it in abundance if you want to relax in pleassent souroundings go somwhere else.
winter sun holiday
My husband and I stayed at the hotel near the end of march the staff were very friendly and ever so kind tThe resort is central he room are basic but very clean food average. The gardens are beautiful also you walk out of the pool bar right onto the beach. When we stayed there was only around 80 people in total at the hotel so we were very well looked after there was people there whp have been going there year after year. I would recommend this resort to anyone that time of the year also the weather was beautiful, I will return next year with friends we met at the hotel. We really had a very good holiday.
Lovely
Loved staying at Les Oranger. The best thing about it was the people there...so friendly and VERY helpful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. My only gripe was that the massage didnt last long enough!
Better than expected........
We arrived at Les Orangers, looking forward to our winter sun break, but with some trepidation after reading other reviews. We were immediately put at ease by a family who had returned for a second year of winter sun. Our room was functional, plenty of space, (2 adults, 2 kids). It was basic, but VERY clean, and serviced every day. The view was superb, right on the beach. The kids had a fantastic time. They loved the indoor pool. It was warm and clean. The food was well cooked, plenty of it, and tasty. Not everything with chips, but lots of North African cooking. Loads of fish, chicken, salad and vegetables. Considering we were staying at a quiet time of year, it was very good. The hotel had an off season feel, but the entertainment rolled every night, (Brian and the caberet was surreal, as was the snake charmer, don't sit near the front!!). Wouldn't rush back for a stay in the height of summer, but for a winter break with kids, it was GREAT!!
great holiday
Our First family holiday. so I was so scared of it all going wrong. We are here to tell the tale. Its a lovely hotel & staff are great very helpful & freindly. We had a sea view room. Which made all the diffrence. I dont know if I would of liked a room over looking the tennis courts etc.. All has nice gardens etc. we went 20 th nov..It was not too hot or cold.shorts & t shirt still. outdoor pool was too cold ( thank god for the indoor pool) food was good but there is only pizza & chips for those true english kids. Mind you my youngest did have a few cheese paninis. The activities & kids club was very limited. we were not really offered any fun. however we did hire tennis & football & played our own games. The kids disco& bingo are good for the kids. Entertainment was good. snake charmer, belly dancer etc.which we really all enjoyed & we did make some friends too. Staff are always there filling your glass etc. go to your rep meeting though they give you lots of advice & help on the locals. our 1st day we were shocked how much you get approched but by day3 we were use to it & gave em the barting back.Got lots of bargins..so dont be afraid.. Also dont purchase the dead scorpions, snakes in boxes. They still have the venum & if the glass breaks & you get caught then its nasty. there was probably only 80 residents so we had vip treatment i think. but it was nice and all/most things were open when they said they were. We did howerver get the munchies at around 5/6pm so the pizza hut was hit ...They love Blonde hair boys alsway touching there head etc. Also 1st day you get approached by a guy selling you horse&camel rides,he said he's from hotel etc, takes you to see the stables etc. Dont purchase of him its rip off. you get it cheaper of the beach & also H&S advice of rep..see for yourself. Old guy got talked into a horse ride, poor guy could not even walk. however the rep did get a refund for him..have fun
Nice relaxing atmosphere
We have just returned from a week in this hotel. I was a little worried after reading the previous reviews but i decided to go with an open mind! The hotel is very dated and in dire need of some TLC. Both reception areas are very grandly decorated. Our children loved the kids Club - Laura was great with them (aged 8 & 6) they were even presented with a complimentary hat and t shirt at the end of our visit. The indoor pool was very nice and clean - it is not heated though and was only a little warmer than the outdoor pool. We had a room on the second floor near the swimming pool. It was a very small room - 2 queen sized beds and a set of bunk beds, with TV and fridge. The bathroom was ok but needed some work and the sink plug was broken. There are no washing lines in the hotel so it was lucky that i took my small fold up travel one! The food was plentiful and varied - not a lot for vegitarians or fussy eaters but there was a good choice of salads, breads meat dishes (who knows what meat!) and lovely desserts. There were also paninis, ice creams and all day buffet available at the pool and at the beach side there is a bar and buffet which serves pizza and snacks all day. The beach is beautiful! The sand is like childrens play pit sand and the sea is lovely and warm although a little rough. Were were troubled by beach sellers but if you dont make eye contact and say no thank you they leave you alone. All in all we had a lovely week. The entertainment staff were great and you have the usual mini club disco and butlins syle entertainment but it was good fun. The all inclusive drinks were great - better than most other places we have been and included a lovely fruity red wine which was great to drink at all times of the day. The vodka measures were very generous and should not drunk after drinking the red wine under any circumstances!
loved it
had a great week here the grandaughters loved it food was what you would expect there was no need to starve. Staff was wonderfull. The only down fall for us was the horse riding stables booked for two people and for 2 hours only one got to ride and still not got money back so would warn people to give the stables a miss as they have more than likely done that many times. But more upset when we got back to Durham and Tesside to find the car had been stolen, so take a taxi or ask some one to take you. Dont seem to be able to set review right but it was an excellect week and would go here again.
Worst holiday ever!
This hotel was the worst we have ever stayed in. Dirty rooms, stained sheets, rude staff. We all became ill with sickness and diarrhoea, so did most of the hotel, some even having to be taken to hospital and put on drips. Nice beach on thats all that was good about this place. Would not recommend this place to anyone. JUST DONT GO!
Great fun for all!!
At first we were all tired and were just concerntrating on getting to bed . When we arrived we were given a welcoming drink and some great help getting the bags to the room.As soon as we got to the room it was abit smaller than we thought. We had a few problems with big ants hehe but it didnt really make a difference to the holiday. We all thought that the beach was great as it was close to food and as soon as you got on the beach staff would bring deckchairs. We thought that the pool was the best and spent most our time there, there was fun and games round the pool for the all the family e.g water polo, darts, archery, football and lots more ! It was close to a small snack bar for a range of food and ice cream and also close to a bar . In the evening there is a wide range of food on the buffet for all ages, the staff were very friendly and helpful with keeping everything organized. After the meal there is also a great range of entertainment all through the night e.g mini disco for the kids, bingo, different shows for everyone every night e.g snake charmer, miss les orangers and loads more, then the rest of the night is music and dancing! There is also a disco that starts at 12 pm for over 18s. Over all we thought it was a great holiday and we wish we could go back , we recomend it to familys as it is great fun and was also very relaxing !!
