" My husband and I have just returned... "

My husband and I have just returned from the Sandridge Beach Hotel,on reaching the hotel we were greeted with cold water and cold wet towel from friendly staff which was much appreciated after the long journey. The studio rooms are rather tired but having said that very spacious and clean, the towels are changed every day and the rooms are cleaned every day.The food is second to none we have been on numerous cruises and we would say the food at the Sandridge is on a par if not better than the food we have had on them. Most nights we had A la Carte however there were buffet evenings also. There is a choice of 2 restaurants Sandys which is the main one with a beautiful view of the sea and beach or The Chattel which is on the roadside which we loved, either one the food is fab. There are monkeys in the grounds which were so cute,we also saw a mongoose and baby turtles on the beach and you don't get any hassle from the guys selling their trinkets on the beach.Speightstown is only a 10 to 15min walk and well worth seeing,Holetown and Bridgetown are so easy to get to as buses are passing every few mins we love the yellow Regge buses with loud music and packed like sardines but if you are faint hearted I would suggest you use the blue buses

" Small 3 star hotel with 5 star foods.... "

Small 3 star hotel with 5 star foods. Staff couldn't have been friendlier, building work going on next door but didn't find it a problem.

Best holiday we have had. Make sure you go on the "Reggae buses" to Bridgetown and Holetown, also on the hotels free glass bottom boat trip and beach picnic.

" Just beware that there is building... "

Just beware that there is building work going on next door to this hotel for the next year. This meant while we stayed in August the beach was out of action and you were taken to another beach. The beach was fine but not as convenient as having one close to the hotel. Sometimes the building started early in the morning, so the rooms over looking this site got a lot of noise. The staff tried to compensate for the inconvenience, but it was not ideal.

" We stayed a week at this 3* plus... "

We stayed a week at this 3* plus virgin extra hotel and had a great time.

The whole experience was fab, from getting met at the airport by a friendly virgin rep and quickly directed to your a/c bus where you were given iced water, to the warm welcome at the hotel, greeted by smiling staff, given a cool refreshing towel and a rum punch and no queuing to check in, just pop a small form in at your leisure. The holiday continued in this easy going feel.

We both know Barbados from previous visits and the hotel has a bus stop almost right outside so its dead easy to go any where on the island.

The rooms are super, food far exceeds the 3* rating and all the staff are amazing, nothing too much trouble. The beach is good; although there are better ones, just have fun discovering them!

The virgin rep, Suzanne was very good at her job, although we never had cause to call on her services she was ever present at her desk every day, and we enjoyed the fun sunset quiz she put on, and wow, we won a prize as our little team came second!

When it came time to come home (*sigh*) virgin do check in and chill out at sand ridge, a rep visits your hotel at 12.20pm, collects your case, gives you your boarding pass, etc and you can spend your last hours enjoying yourself at the hotel and avoid all the stress of the airport. You literally arrive, clear customs and board (of course with ample time to get a few duty frees).

Wonderful from start to finish and I will be returning as soon as I can!!

" Hi, I have just come back from the... "

Hi, I have just come back from the gorgeous sandridge hotel. Its a small hotel and very quiet in the evening, just right for families!

Everyone in Barbados is soo friendly it’s unbelievable. An experience you must encounter are reggae buses, an awesome experience. Beach is great here, with some locals selling things and talking to you! The bar staff are great, all inclusive is really useful because you don’t need any money. It’s amazing; I'm devastated I've left Barbados. Food in the Sandridge is lovely, lots of selection so everyone finds something they like!

All in all a perfect location in a perfect place. Go to Barbados! I love it! - Katie 15.
" We travelled to Gatwick the night... "

We travelled to Gatwick the night before our flight to take advantage of the Virgin twilight service, checked our luggage in and received our boarding passes, our seats were pre booked row 62 window seats. I highly recommend rows 62 through to 64 window on the 747 400 as the extra room both to the side and pitch is the best in cattle class at no extra cost(damm i should have kept that to myself), due to extra security we had to wait in the airport 40 minutes while our luggage was checked.
Off we went to the Ifield Court hotel Crawley (i will submit a separate review for the Ifield), we always stay at the Ifield pre flight as it is we feel the best for price comfort and reliability and adds an extra day to our hols, yes i now have my holiday head on. After a few pints and a nice steak meal we retire, our flight is at 10am so as we have already booked in there is no need to get to the airport much before 9am giving us time to enjoy the full English breakfast at the hotel.
Breezed through security, quick stop in duty free then straight onto the plane, great flight, good movies and the food was'nt bad and the G&Ts were the best, 7 ½ hours later we landed in Barbados. As you taxi look out for Concorde parked up never thought I would see one again.
Barbados airport is one big building site that said it only took about 40 mins to get our luggage we walk outside into 95 degrees and 80% humidity - phew. Now here is where Virgin must get their act together. We waited 1 hr for our transfer bus some lame excuse about they cant bring the bus up because of the building work. Sort it out before you have a riot, anyway on the bus air con and a bottle of iced water and all is forgiven 45mins later we pull up at the Sandridge.
First impressions are that this is a classy hotel nice entrance and very clean, into reception to be greeted with an ice cold face towel and a rum punch, nice. Booking in took just a few minutes and we were then shown to our room by the bell boy, our cases had arrived before us and were taken to our room, as they weighed 32 kilos each I was relieved to say the least as the Sandridge has no lifts I did'nt fancy carrying them.
We had booked an ocean view suite and it was I believe the best room in the hotel, a huge bed, large sitting area, good size bathroom, kitchenette, very quiet ceiling fan and nice balcony all fixtures and fittings including the air con appeared to be new. The view from our room was stunning, imagine waking up in the morning to uninterrupted views of the ocean and in the evening watching the most beautiful sunsets all from the comfort of your air conditioned room.
The main restaurant is Sandys which is open on 3 sides to the ocean, breakfast lunch and dinner are served daily here and the choice is good the food quality is very good and should satisfy most tastes any special dietary needs just tell the staff and it will be sorted. Being an open restaurant a certain number of birds get in but the staff have a cunning plan they put out bowls of bird food away from the restaurant at meal times which keep most of the birds away. The main bar is alongside Sandys and is open from 10 am to 11 pm, the evening entertainment is also in this area and is very good steel bands etc.
The Sandridge has a second restaurant called the Chattel house situated at the front of the hotel that was our preference to eat as the evenings meals are a la carte, midday they serve the best pub lunches, sit on the verandah and watch the world go by with a nice cool drink great. The bar stays open to 1 am.
The drinks at the Sandridge are of the highest quality Banks beer on draught and bottled, national and international spirits and some mad cocktails; also a good selection of non alcoholic drinks, ice slushes are avl all day.
The pool is not big but big enough it also has a kiddie section and is kept very clean there is plenty of shaded areas .
The grounds are very lush and with the new plantings going on should look even better the area to the rear of the reception needs some t l c but overall its nice.
The beach area is quite small but the sand is soft and clean. Do not go in the ocean without beach shoes on as most of the foreshore is coral this goes for most beaches on the west coast. The Sandridge have been given permission to build a water break of some kind to keep the sand from being washed away, as I said the beach area is quite small but this is Barbados not Benidorm small pretty coves are the norm.
The staff at the hotel are great, Geoff the manager is very proud of his team and they made our stay very special the only weak link is the Virgin rep who does not seem to mix with her guests at all. If you do have any problems the hotel staff will sort them out, we had one small problem with the plumbing and it was fixed in minutes.
The hotel is in a quiet part of the island surrounded by some beautiful properties only a 10 minute walk to town and buses stop outside the hotel.
Expect to meet only Brits as Virgin guarantee 80% occupancy. It was nice to see the sunbeds with no towels on at 6am there really is no need, there are plenty to go around.
Virgin have the check in chill out service at the hotel and the Sandridge have good departure rooms avl where you can shower etc pre flight.
All in all this is a great hotel with 1st class staff I highly recommend it and as a number of other guests extended their stay while we were there, well that speaks volumes.
We had a great flight home, lots of room in our pre booked seats, the breakfast that Virgin served us on the plane was by far the worst food I've ever seen. A fruit dish with rotten fruit if thats the best you can do Virgin dont bother.
Great landing at Gatwick didn't even feel the wheels touch down, cases both together on the carousel past the sniffer dogs at customs, courtesy bus waiting great! Counting the days till the next holiday.

" We travelled to Barbados with Virgin... "

We travelled to Barbados with Virgin from 10 - 20 June 2003. The hotel was very good, some say a budget class hotel for the Caribbean but we did not think so.

The food was excellent, waiter service at every meal and the choice of meals was excellent. The beach was very good, surrounded by coral reefs and not far off shore my husband swam with the turtles, a never to be forgotten experience. There were monkeys in the grounds of the hotel that you could feed and although wild, came very close allowing you to take pictures.

The weather was excellent, having some very heavy showers during the night, but this you can put up with! The hotel also accepts self catering families, we looked at that accommodation and this was also first class with full size refrigerators and cookers. The hotel rooms were quite small but adequate and very well looked after.

The only thing would be if you were self catering, to eat out is very expensive and drinks prices can be extortionate and as the hotel is quite isolated, being between Kings Beach Hotel and Almond Beach resort, the nearest "town" was Speightstown about ten minutes walk away, or Holetown a 10 minute bus ride away. A ride on a yellow bus is not to be missed, 1.50 Barbados dollars, about 50p. They drive at about 100 mph and the music blares out, you can't hear anything else.

We went with Virgin Holidays, as always excellent value for money and we would recommend this to anyone.

" My wife and myself go to the... "

My wife and myself go to the Sandridge Hotel regularly it is an excellent hotel, the rooms are immaculately clean the staff are very friendly and the hotel is situated in the best area of Barbados. The hotel prices are a little expensive but it is safe to go out to the local bars and restaurants, and these prices are a lot more reasonable.

The standards of hygiene are excellent and although some of the bars are only shanty huts the people and the service are second to none. If you get the chance to go for more than two weeks then this is a good idea, because the way of life is so laidback that it takes a week to wind down and relax into their pace of life. Fully inclusive is good but self-catering means you can try the local bars and restaurants. The local buses are a real experience but not for the faint hearted at $1.50 it’s an experience you will never forget.
