Novotel Paris Gare de Lyon

The room we booked included breakfast which was excellent. The location of the hotel was ideal because we use the Metro to get around and Gare De Lyon is right beside the hotel (just steps away). It was a little hard to find the hotel when we arrived, and no one could give us directions. The park or open square behind the hotel (which opens to the station) did have, as noted several 'down and out' hanging around but I never saw them bother anyone. We spent two nights at this hotel and were really pleased with the whole experience. The location is great as long as you are willing to use the metro right next door. The hotel is very clean and modern in style. Our room was very well designed. We had a separate WC and a tub and stall shower in the bathroom. The sofa bed actually had two separate beds for our two girls. The desk could be rearranged to make a larger L-shaped space which worked for a quick picnic dinner. We decided at the last minute to spend a few days in Paris. We had stayed previously at a Novotel Hotel and have also stayed in Ibis hotels (cheap and cheerful). As this was a four night break we did not think we could cope with 4 nights in an Ibis, so went for this Novotel. The room was great, the maid did a good job every day and the reception staff were very helpful. Parking was easy but not cheap (16 euros for the first night and 20 for each following night). Our family of four (2 adults, 9&7) stayed at the Novotel Gare de Lyon for a three-day leisure trip to Paris. The property is not near any of the major attractions although the Louvre and Notre Dame are certainly within walking distance. The property, which is geared to the corporate traveler, is within a block of every major Metro line in Paris and the Gare de Lyon train station, so if you are willing to use the Metro you can be anywhere within the city in 5-20 minutes. The hotel was easy to locate near to the Gare de Lyon station. The room we had for 4 nights was very good with a bed settee for up to two children. If you book more than a month in advance you can get the early bird discount which will include breakfast. There are a lot of 'down and outs' which surround the hotel, but they tend not to approach the hotel users but not a very nice view from the hotel room. A standard business-type hotel, within sight of the Gare de Lyon terminal. The rooms are spacious and clean, bathrooms well appointed. We use the hotels for our afternoon-only meetings, the hotel is quite happy with day-use apparently. Coffee, tea and a kettle, a restaurant (OK, but there are better ones not far) and a bar. There is a pool but we have not tried it. With great metro/RER connexions most of the Paris sites are within a few minutes' ride. We stayed here on our way Skiing, we caught then train from here to Moutiers. I have to say the I was not sure what to expect with a hotel just outside a main station but was very Pleasantly surprised. The rooms where comfortable, reasonable well equipped and the staff where very friendly and helpful, I would say the bathrooms reminded me of being in a caravan!! But hey you can’t have everything. The rooms are spacious, the breakfast excellent, staff friendly and the location great. It is just outside Gare de Lyon, just a short walk from the La Bastille-area and Le Marais-area. Also the metro is around the corner. The parking of the hotel is expensive, it is better to park in a public garage nearby. You can get better prices during the weekend.

I booked this through via internet and they stuffed up my booking dates and charged me for the wrong dates. After all of the mix up, they said that it was my fault when i checked out, and had the gall to charge me for the difference in the rates! The place was under renovations when we were there, but the bathroom/toilet was small and cheap. They were the plastic premoulded bathroom/shower recesses and if you left the bathroom light on, you could see the light through the gaps in the bedroom. This was my least favorite hotel during my 10 day trip to France and Switzerland. I found it to be so very generic which wouldn't have bothered me too much except that I didn't feel like t the room was very clean and it was also very small. I choose this hotel because it was convenient to the TGV and it was so easy to settle in after our train ride. But, it wasn't worth the convience.
