Ruthin Castle Hotel Reviews

Fantastic Location, beautiful place to stay.... just a few things could be improved....

Lovely hotel. Great restaurant, bar and lounge... some rooms need modernisation but it's understandable. We faced the back overlooking the rear of the castle and it was pleasant, views are good all around.
My only criticism is the quality of support from the reception staff. Could be much improved.
We were greeted with someone on a Sunday afternoon who was very loud behind the reception desk and this lady has put us off staying again.
The bedroom was clean but small and a tight squeeze in places. TV not working and we gave up after several failed attempts by staff to sort it.
If the small touches were in place. I'd have been happier. Reception staff need to be excellent communicators and not only did the staff look untidy but the customer service at reception was very poor during our stay.
A great place though and if management can improve on this it would be a good thing...
The cooked breakfast is also 'charged for' which we hadn't expected. There is something called a buffet included but the hot breakfast menu is extra.
A very pleasant array of peacocks though around the breakfast room. Very pleasant indeed.
Just small things mainly to do with staff training that I felt could be improved and encouraged in staff.

Fabulous!! We have stayed several times over the last three years and the hotel just gets better and better. Bertie's Dining Room serves wonderful food and has at last been recognised by the AA for a 2-rosette award that is well deserved. We stayed in a deluxe 4-star room that really was deluxe, and our friends stayed in one of the 3-star that is waiting for refurbishment, but it has obviously been partly upgraded in the last few months and was still very comfortable....and really good value on a bargain break. This is a hotel where you can feel its history and walk around the battlements and grounds and imagine being one of the kings that has walked around before you or imagine the battles that have taken place. The gardens are beautifully maintained again and the interior is full of grand fireplaces, ceilings and oil paintings. We felt really comfortable and the staff made us feel at home. Don't rely on old reviews of this hotel...check out it's website to see what it's like now because it keeps changing.

i would only recommend staying here if you pay that bit extra to get one of the newer refurbished rooms.
my husband and I stayed in one of the old ones, allthough very clean it seemed rather pricey for a very basic room in dire need of some modernisaton, and we had managed to get a reduction off the usual price.
i would NOT pay the usual for that room.
my brother down the hall paid the same amount for what can only be described as a shoe box.
we had friends whom had paid that bit extra, gone the whole hog actually , and their room was outstanding, 5*.
so dont stay unless you are willing to pay through the nose.
breakfast was breakfast, nothing to complain about and nothing to rave about.

All in all a very pleasant stay. The rooms are spacious, although in slight need of a touch up.
The food was of very good quality and the staff were excellent, especially the very friendly bar staff. The building itself is very attractive and the antique furniture and suits of armour do give it a nice ambience.
There does though appear to be some work going on at the moment in parts of the hotel though other than the site of workman this didn't affect our stay. Would I stay again?? Absolutely!
