Lake Vyrnwy Classic Hotel

We have just had a delightful weekend in this hotel. We had a lake view room and the views were just incredible. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Large bathroom with the thickest towels we have ever used in our lives. The dining room also has the view of the lake. The food was excellent, the only complaint being that the main course was not hot enough. 5 course dinner is £33 50. Breakfast was also excellent. We stayed for one night for my parents 50th marriage anniversary and were disapointed firstly at the reception, having travelled for four hours and booked afternoon tea we came down and had to wait 30 minutes to be served and only after enquiring of its absence. The dinner was excellent but excluded any mention of my parents anniversary I had previously informed the reception. You are definitely paying for the view and the food in this hotel NOT the room. £500 for a two night DB&B and champagne lunch. The room was described to me by a friend as shabby chic so I thought I was prepared..... it was just shabby! I paid for a suite as it was our honeymoon. My husband was very ill and we could not travel far or for more than 2 days from the hospital. We DID stay the previous weekend – with seven inches of snow! It made a great hotel absolutely magical. We’ve stayed before but this was our first time in Room 3 – this is THE room to stay in! Had an absolutely fab birthday there, the staff are all really friendly and informal, which makes a pleasant change from some hotels in this price bracket, you really do feel as if you’re staying in a country house. We were unable to stay the previous weekend due to bad weather - snow.The hotel changed our reservation promptly,we had hoped for a nice room as it was a valentines break we were very pleased.After a late arrival on friday evening we awoke to the most beautiful view of the lake and loved the balcony, our room was spacious and clean and had a nice big bathroom with shower and bath.All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Got a fab bargain for a two night stay, but thought the room a little tired, but that didnt detract from a fab hotel, amazing food, and gorgeous views. Would go back in a heartbeat, but would spend more on the room grade next time.
