Mercure Terminus Nord Hotel

Across Gare du Nord the location is perfect for travellers. A variety of restaurants and bars nearby. Don't expect anything special. Hotel absolutely needs a facelift. Room was small and the carpet dirty. Bed was OK. Small desk and chair only. At EUR 125 for a single room it is still good value in central Paris. Bathroom in desperate need of refurbishment. Breakfast at EUR 15 was quite good.

We stayed in a superior room. From that, I wouldn't like to have stayed in a standard one! YEARS overdue for refurbishment - shower loose from the wall, and couldn't be angled to spray over you. Stool in bathroom waterstained, plastic wash hand basin cracked and stained, bath chipped, carpets scruffy, yellowed hairdryer hose would not stay attached, and even if you held it in, got so hot that you could not hold it. This hotel has a great location especially if you have arrived from Eurostar. The hotel has seen better days but it was clean and the room was a reasonable size. We stayed in a back room which over looked an atrim but although not a nice outlook was very quiet, i would imagine the road side rooms could be noisy all through the night. Ideal location for Gare du Nord, if you are connecting to Metro\RER\SNCF\EuroStar. Overpriced and somewhat cramped like any other hotel in Paris. Rooms clean if just a little small. The double bed was 2 single mattresses, so I would have expected better for my €165. Same for Wifi, would be nice to have it free instead of adding another 10euro to bill. Stayed at The Mercure Nord in April during a 2 day conference nearby. It has seen better days. The room was clean but well scuffed! Bathroom was fine. This is a perfectly acceptable hotel for a short business trip and very near (opposite) the Gare du Nord and therefore really convenient if arriving from London. If I was on holiday I would not choose it.

Had I payed for this hotel myself I would have felt very cheated, rates seemed extremely expensive for the low quality of the hotel. Staff were very nice and efficient. However the general state of the rooms really let it down. Ours was extremely tired, with cracked tiles, bath and sink, well worn towels and very stained carpets. Telephone didn't work however was fixed quickly. Breakfast was extremely overpriced for what was provided. I stayed here with my mother after we missed a connection and were forced to stay in Paris for the night. Staff on the desk were helpful. They upgraded us to a larger room as my mother is in a wheelchair. Room not to my taste in decor but it was clean and not too noisy even though we did face the station and France had just won their semi final football match in the World Cup. Positive pionts: Staff helpful, room clean, good position for Eurostar Negative points: Decorations very tired, sanitaryware marked and in need of replacement, bathroom door wouldn't close, hand held shower only, room very hot and when the window was open the curtains had to be open as window opened inwards, bed uncomfortable, breakfast could have been better.

The hotel is great for a brief stop in Paris; our room was compact and had a view over to the Sacre Coeur. Breakfast was good, lobby was inviting, although the road works outside are off-putting. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE STAYING IN THIS AREA, BEWARE OF FRAUDSTER WAITER IN THE BAR 'LE MAISON BLANCHE'!!! This bar is situated a few doors down from the hotel and I fell foul of his little trick. We have stayed at this hotel at least ten times at different times of the year (even during the very hot summer) and are somewhat surprised by the very negative reviews that have appeared of late. True, the hotel rooms are currently being renovated which makes for some minor inconvenience as they were during our most recent stay in April - but not to the extent to warrant the hostility some guests seem to show.
