Diplomat Hotel

Couldn't get in my room twice, i went down to reception and they told me it was my phone near the door which was stopping it working. Also the chairs where not comfortable and i got a bad back from it. Also my prawn coctail would have been nice with tomato and cucumber as it only consisted of prawns and lettuce. It would be nice to see a sweet trolley. The food was average! It makes me wonder whether there was a trainned chef on site.The night i had beef i was not offered horseraddish or mustard as a matter of course, i had to ask for it.... more

Bidded on [--] and won a voucher for "a nights stay at the diplomat worth £95".Got it for £28.50-was not even worth that!When I telephoned to book a room and mentioned I had a voucher there were no rooms available until May.When I rang back the next day and didnt mention the voucher I had a room the next weekend...funny that. This hotel was lovely. the rooms were huge and clean. The bar area was nice, the food was great. The bar meals were excellant value £8.95. Nice choice of menu. Ate in the dining room one night, which was pricy, but also very good. Only problem with the bar the tables were knee height, so you might get indigestion. I didnt try the spa, but that looked good too. Well back off the road so quiet at night.

Stayed for three nights in Sep 2008. My sister and I were visiting family (family tree). We really enjoyed our stay. Staff were very helpful and friendly. First two mornings we helped ourself to cereals, croissants, juice, fresh fruit, fruit salad, yoghurts, and were served our hot breakfast, coffee and toast. This is a great example of what a Best Western hotel should be. Clean, well managed and with it's own stlye - whilst comfortably under the unbrella of Best Western. The hotel is nestled in a residential area, but set back from the streets, so it feels quite secluded. I stayed at this hotel back in December 2007 when I travelled over to watch the Munster rugby team take on the local Llanelli Scarlets in the Heineken Cup (which we went on to win in May by the way). My stay at the hotel was pleasant. we were checked in by a lovely lady, our room was nicely decorated and had very modern facilities such as an LCD TV and broadband. This is the 4th review for this hotel, the other 3 are shocking. Well I can tell you the other 3 are totally wrong. I only stayed one night last week (Jul 07) but I cant understand where all the negativity comes from. Three of us stayed in 3 rooms and we all agreed the stay was fine. In desperate need of some money spent on it! The forst room we were shown around had a vent in it that went straight down to reception, I could hear the receptionist on the phone! Second room was in a converted staff quarters at he front of the hotel,it was 70's retro to say the least, I was able to write my name in the dust on the carpet and the two single beds were both in dire need of replacement. Oh dear...friendly staff but uncomfortable beds and a generally shabby place in desperate need of a facelift. The breakfast was below average. Fried breakfast had that warmed up appearance and taste. There was little choice, sliced bread, dubious sausages, cheap juice, fruit certainly not 'fresh' and coffe undrinkable. After that we avoided the retaurant in the evening.

This is the sort of hotel that makes me cringe as Brit. What must foreigners think when they find themselves in a place like this. The whole place has a crummy, tacky feel about it. The staff, when they are not ignoring you, take inordinate amounts of time to perform simple tasks, and still get them wrong. The heating was not functioning even though the temperature outside was zero, and it didn't feel much better than that in the room.
