Bologna Hotel Reviews
" The hotel is set in a side street... "
Submitted By: Mr G McLaren
The hotel is set in a side street only about 100 yards from the River, although the street is narrow it is busy during the day but very quite at night.
The room was very clean and the maids kept it that way, the decor of the hotel is very good, and there is a lift to all floors.
The rooms have mini bar, air conditioning, private facilities and power sockets for all your extras.
The breakfasts were a buffet style and a wide range of food was available, you will not leave the dining room hungry, the waiting and other staff were very helpful.
From the airport there is a good taxi service or for the more adventurous the local bus stops very close to the hotel, also a return car service to the airport can be had from the desk.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for your next trip to Pisa.

" My wife and I stayed at the Hotel... "

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Bologna in Pisa on a weekend break in November.
We flew Ryanair from Liverpool to Pisa, and the hotel was a 10 minute taxi ride away. (although we had to wait 25 mins for a taxi; if we were to go again, we would arrange for the hotel to collect us - see later).
We checked in at 11.30 and our room was ready (official check in time is mid afternoon). Check in was fast, efficient and courteous, and our room was large, airy, and - most importantly - spotlessly clean. The beds were firm, and the sheets immaculate.
Reception staff were again most helpful, and indicated on a map the best walk to the Tower (20 mins away). We strolled up to the Tower, and it really is breath-taking. It's a must-see for any traveller.
We then walked back down past the Hotel for maybe 15 minutes in the other direction, to the train station where we purchased tickets for our day trip to Florence (an hour or so away) the next day.
That night, we ate locally in a restaurant we found on the river bank. An important tip here: when you arrive at the Hotel, get the reception to recommend AND book a restaurant for each night you're in town - the decent eateries get booked up and are unable to cater for "drop-ins". Don't wait for meal time to start looking for somewhere - it'll be too late
The Hotel breakfast (on both days) was a very nice pastry, cold meats, cheese etc buffet, and was more than we expected.
The day trip to Florence was sensational, and we returned to the Hotel that night happy but footsore.
We struggled to find a restaurant, hence the tip above, but finally succeeded and had a lovely meal.
We had a return flight on the Sunday morning, and the Hotel arranged an airport transfer in their own liveried people carriers for some nominal amount (10 euros?).
All in all, the Bologna was spot on; only a 3* because of very limited facilities, it was great value and I heartily recommend it for a short stay. Hotels and restaurants in Pisa are much cheaper than in Florence, and we had a wonderful low cost weekend.

Staff on reception and individual claiming to be manager were totally unconcerned and somewhat superior about our complaint. We were able to spend days two and three of our reservation at the hotel and found it to be adequate but with little charm despite its antique presentation. Prices for the shuttle were higher than regular taxis.
General impression is that they have it too easy so they don't care and I would be very cautious about using it again and would certainly not put my name to a recommendation.
