Grand Hotel Majestic

Just returned from a week at the Grand Majestic. As usual we booked at short notice via our local travel agent. We wanted two full lake view rooms but given the time scale we settled for one plus a side lake view with a promise to upgrade if available. In the event it was not needed as the side room was as good as the full view room and our friends decided not to bother. Verbania/Pallanza is a perfect base to explore Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta. I had stayed in Stresa before, and this is far superior! Easy walk to the ferry dock from this hotel, which is slightly outside the town in a residential area on the way up to Villa Taranto. The indoor pool is sublime, and the grass lawn for sunbathing is lovely. A tiny private island near shore has one house on it, and we enjoyed wondering who lived there. The Majestic in Verbania is outdated and not worth the price one is paying for. The rooms are relative small and are basically furnished. A twin bed, a very small TV set, 1 closet, a small bathroom with only a shower. This is true for both the refurbished rooms and the one which are not refurbished. Indeed is hat a stunning view on the lake, but that's about it. The pool is situated inside, which is not preferable. We were very impressed by the location and setting of this hotel, it is simply stunning. On the banks of Lake Maggiore, and a short stroll into Verbania (no more than 3 minutes), the hotels grounds are a major draw. There are lawns stretching to the lakeside, and you can while away the afternoon lying on a sun lounger. There are plenty of trees for shade, and the loungers are spaced far apart, giving you plenty of privacy from other guests. I stayed at the Grand Hotel Majestic in May for 5 nights. We booked Deluxe Lake View rooms. It was a bit more, but so worth it. Waking up every morning to the best view I have ever seen, was priceless. Just sitting out on the balcony overlooking the lake was so relaxing and stunning. Italian hotels always seem a bit bare in terms of furnishings - there were no frills in the rooms, they weren't luxurious, but this seems to be the case throughout Italy. I have just returned from the Grand Hotel Majestic having used it for our company's Annual Meeting. It is a really fantastic location and the staff bent over backwards to make our conference really efficient. All of our investors loved the hotel - it is very Italian. The rooms are clean but faily basic but everything else more than makes up for this. You open the large wooden shutters onto a beautiful lake. We went to one of the islands for dinner and returned by darkness, also by boat - a really fantastic evening.

We spent four nights at the hotel and could not have been more pleased. The setting was lovely, overlooking the lake. The room was nicely furnished, with a comfy king size bed, modern bathroom and tub. Grounds were maginificent. Breakfast was excellent and served in a beautiful restaurant overlooking the lake. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was a short walk to town where there were many restaurants available. Would clearly stay here again.

This was a bit of a one-off for us -- we would not normally stay at a so-called luxury hotel. But if it doesn't hurt too much to drop Euro 300 a night, we can definitely recommend this one. The biggest plus here is the lakeside location on Lago di Maggiore. Spectacular views if you take a lakeside room - we had a junior suite which also gave us a terrace to enjoy some of the sun.
