We stayed for a week at the Royal Village. It's quite a large hotel complex split over several buildings, but never felt too large as a quiet road runs through the middle meaning it seems like a smaller place. There is a corridor under the road linking the two halves so it's quite safe.
The room we had was a usable size - not huge, but not so small you couldn't move around. We had air conditioning, a balcony, a tv, a mini bar and the bed was comfortable. The room was cleaned well daily.
There are several pools scattered around, and the outdoor ones were very busy during the day. The indoor one was much quieter and we tended to use this. A lot of visitors seemed content to stay around the hotel pools all day and never leave, and they were well catered for with free soft drinks and wine all day, with free snacks in the afternoon. We preferred to hire a car and go exploring the lake however. The least enjoyable thing about the hotel was probably meals. They are served "buffet style" and generally it's something of a free-for-all to grab a table and get to the food. Once we worked out the system it wasn't to bad though, and the food was perfectly edible if not to a gourmet standard. Be warned though, I don't think I saw a single chip the whole time!
Lake Garda (and Limone) are beautiful however, and highly recommended. The Royal Village makes a good base although those of a less-fit nature should know the walk back up to the hotel is a bit of a killer. The hotel do run a taxi service for 1 euro from the lakeside during the evening, so it's not really a problem.
