Salmakis Resort & Spa Hotel Reviews
" Very stylish "
Submitted By: smell66
I was worried this was the first time we had come to Turkey so i wanted somewhere nice i orginally booked a hotel the Azcar which had bad reviews so i changedto this one and when we arrived the other hotel was next door.
Really clean, room was bit small and we had no balcony upgraded us for free and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was something to be desired with very little choice but the evening meal was great and the salads were so fresh and inviting.
the only down side is that it is on a hill and if you having walking difficulties this would not be the hotel for you, and dont buy anything out of the mini bar in the room is so expensive it worked out £5 for a snickers bar and they dont like you taking your own water in as they like you to buy it there we hid ours or filled the water up with their bottle so they didnt know any different because they will consficate it very bad when you have paid for aholiday dictating what you can drink and eat.
Gumbet was great very lively and friendly and we walked down and got the Dolmus back only £2 and went to Bodrum to the Harbour via the Water Taxis they are great. Take a trip to Kos for the day well worth the money only remember to get up in time we was late and missed the ferry but it is only about £10-15 return.

Advice: Lovely place only watch the retailers try to pressure you into buying their goods
Activities: Gumbet had some great restaurants and breakfast for £2 well worth the visit
Good for: Beach
" This is the second visit to this... "

This is the second visit to this hotel by my family and I (inc. two boys of 8 + 9). We love it for it's location on the bay overlooking Bodrum and its harbour. The hotel layout (as it is built into a hill side) is not great, but on the first visit we had a room close to the pool area on the ground floor and requested this again on the second visit. With this in mind the pool, beach and eating areas are all within yards of this room.
There is a private beach, nightly entertainment, a fantastic selection of buffet food served on a veranda overlooking the bay, and polite and attentive service on offer.
A short water taxi trip away and you are in Bodrum itself, where we ate lunch most days overlooking the harbour. Again all very pleasant and friendly.
As the hotel boasts a spa and gym, my wife treated herself to a massage, facial, etc. All professionally done and well received.
There are very few English at the hotel, and you will be sharing facilities with mainly Russian and Italian holiday makers, which in our eyes makes it just that more interesting and pleasant. For our boys they played with English and other nationalities' children, all making themseves understood and having lots of fun in the process.
We recommend - approach with an open mind - it adds up to a TOTALLY relaxing stay. Note August is 40+ degrees cent', but the off sea breeze keeps it pleasant, and as it's dry heat its lovely in our view.

" This was my first trip to a 'beach'... "

This was my first trip to a 'beach' holiday and the hotel did not let us down at all. On arrival at 0730 we were shown to our room which opened out to a lovely courtyard. We sampled the breakfast which was plentiful and fresh to order. There were 3 bar areas to escape to - beach bar and dinner, the pool bar and there was the lobby bar, this was the most popular one (being inside). The staff were most helpful. Bedding and towels were changed every day and room cleaned.
The walk to the town centre was down hill which was good, just a job walking back, but taxi only cost £2.50. Only thing was the price of the drinks in the bar - stick to local produce it was half the price.
I would definitely go back and am thinking about 2 weeks next year.

" This hotel is made up of rooms... "

This hotel is made up of rooms located amongst a rabbit warren of corridors and over several different levels.
The clientele are all nationalities, including Russian, German, and Brits which makes for a nice mix. The hotel has fantastic sea views of Bodrum and many an hour can be spent watching the Gullets leaving the harbour.
The hotel has the usual facilities including a spa with prices cheaper than the UK. The only disadvantage would be the number of steps you need to take to get anywhere.
Definitely not for the less mobile although there are 2 lifts but you would still need to negotiate some challenging steps to get any food.
Pool area was lovely and there is a small beach, which isn’t very clean but the water is shallow and good for kids.
Food is OK, plenty of choice. Some of the staff can be a bit surly but they are ok when you get to know them. There is entertainment in the hotel in the evenings but we didn't stay to watch.
The hotel is a 15 minute walk to Gumbet (down a steep hill) or a 20 minute walk (down a steep hill) to Bodrum but there are taxis or Dolmus. There is also a water taxi which runs from the hotels to Bodrum at regular intervals. Bodrum has a lovely marina and good shops for genuine or fake designer goods. Lots of restaurants too.

Me and my family of 6 (3x adults 2x teens 1x toddler) stayed here for two weeks last summer.
The hotel food was often in short supply, everything had run out after an hour of dining. Most of the hot food was cold as well.
The outdoor pool was very nice, but slightly dirty and one of the plastic steps was completely broken off.
Bodrum was a nice town but the sellers were very pushy and occasionally rude!
My room was nice, and the cleaner was lovely, however the other room my family were staying at had a blocked toilet and it smelt the whole stay.
All in all it was a nice holiday but I would not return.

" My family of 6 visited the Salmakis... "

My family of 6 visited the Salmakis Hotel last summer (2006).
The staff were friendly with exception to the staff in the spa, there was one nice male receptionist, however the rest of them were cold to you if you were just there to use the pool for free and not pay for treatments.
All in all the food was good, however the vegetarian options were poor and the menu was the same every night.
We had two rooms, one was fab but the other one had a sewage problem and it stunk for the whole two weeks, staff tried to rectify the problem but it came to no avail.
Bodrum is a lovely place to visit via water taxi, lots of good shops, however the sellers were very pushy and you were always under pressure to buy something, you have to say no very firmly.
One of the downsides was the men would chat up anyone, my sister who was 16 at the time, and is moderately good looking literally got advances from every male there, it was very annoying after a while.
It wasn’t too expensive to book the holiday but you do have to spend a lot in the hotel.
You cant drink tap water as there is foreign bacteria we are not used to, and you are only allowed to buy bottled water at the mini market at the hotel, which cost around £1.50 for 2 litres, compared to about 40p for 8 litres at the supermarket, so we ended up just smuggling water to our hotel room at the bottom of our buggy.
Also if you have a toddler who needs milk it costs an awful lot to buy milk from the hotel. £4 (yes £4!) for only 1 litre/ about 2 pints.
All in all our vacation was great; however I’d recommend it to those on a disposable income and if you’re on a budget this is not you cup of tea. Hope his helps.
