You come out of Central Station and the hotel is only a few minutes walk. Don't bother getting a taxi as they only get a man to walk you across the street and charge you 5 Euros.
The rooms are basic and could do with modernising but they are extremely clean. The hotel staff were very helpful. The Bar is a nice place to start the day/evening off and the bartenders are really nice people so are the locals that go in there.
If you go out of the hotel to the left and walk for a few minutes you will get to the red light district. There are lot's of little alleys and at night when coming home from the bars you will probably get approached to buy illegal substances, it did feel a bit intimidating at times.
If I were to go back to Amsterdam I would definitely stay in this hotel as it's Central, clean, very friendly and if you get lost it's very easy to find your way back. If you go hope you have fun.
