Good value for little money

We found this hotel to be clean and well staffed. Food was reasonably good although a little limited on choice. Beds were comfortable and air con a bonus. Best dessert jelly I have ever tasted!

This was a cheap and delightful holiday, we went for four nights for mid week break and paid just 400 pound for the two of us, this included four nights half board, transferes and flights.....the hotel didnt let us down. It was situated in a fantastic loacation of monte gordo and was just 5 min walk to the beach. The rooms were basic but really clean and clean towels/room every day. Ww went on the 7th August and where the only english in the hotel which was not a problem, it seems the hotel is full of englsih in their winter time...april/may, however weather then is still very warm. Im usually a hard to please person when it comes to holidays (cos I work so hard all year and believe i deserve a good hol when the time arrives..ha ha) this hotel delivered. We have booked to go back May 2012 again for four nights as we loved the quaint friendly town, however this time we are staying at the Yellow hotel for a change, again we got bargain of £389 for two with everything as before. The town is east of portugal which is just across from Spain, it takes about 50 min to get there from faro...if your finding it difficult to make your mind up....dont, you wont be displeased...just dont expect 4/5 star boutique hotel as this is not the case, its friendly, clean, great location and value for money.....

  • Advice: get yourself on the lovely beach...take a good book and relax. Listen to the waves crashing onto the sand whilst you sip a nice cold beer!!

Perfect for a quiet getaway

We were looking for a cheap break to get away and came across the Hotel Baia. On arrival (10:30) our room was ready even though check-in wasn't till 3.
The room was decent in size with free air-con. A TV with 2 English channels(ITV & ITV4+1) and 2 single beds. You can also hire a fridge for 25€ a week if required.
The pool area on the roof is small but adequate with a heated pool and jacuzzi which few people used.
The self serve restaurant gives you lots of choice in the evening with plenty of salad, a fish option and a meat option each day. The breakfast was a bit of a letdown but is great if you like scrambled egg but there was plenty of the usual continental fare.
The resort is quiet but saying that has plenty of bars and restaurants. 3 bars in particular are the Golden Rose, Johns Bar and Best of all the Seagull Bar. This place is run by a Portuguese couple called Fernando and Maria. They make you feel so welcome and is perfect for the sports fan.
Drinks vary from 2€ to 3€ for a pint of local beer but you can get an Irish coffee etc for 2€. Cocktails are around 5€.
The beach is stunning miles and miles of clean well looked after sand with crystal clear water. There are fishing boats pulled up onto the beach each morning which is quite a sight. The stroll down the beach to Spain takes around 90 mins and you can then get the ferry across.
There are plenty of bike hire places if you feel a bit adventurous and would like to explore a bit more.
Overall if you are looking for a cheap getaway to relax this hotel and resort is perfect and we plan to go back next year.

Unfortunately, we were really disappointed in this hotel. On the plus side, it was very clean and the maid service was great. But the food was really terrible. The main course was a choice of either a fish dish or one meat dish. The food was often cold and was honestly very unappetising. We did tell the waitress one night that the food was cold but she just shrugged and did nothing. We actually ended up eating in a local cafe a few nights. Breakfast was again very basic with scrambled eggs and beans most days alongside a selection of rolls and breads, etc.
To sum up, the hotel itself is very clean and the staff are polite (tho not friendly) but the food leaves a lot to be desired.

  • Advice: not a lot to do if you dont want to lie on beach. very small resort.

Hotel Bahia - Monte Gordo

If you are expecting a 3* hotel (in comparison to the UK) then don't - the hotel looks ok from the outside the inside looks as if they have tried to jazz it up but to no avail - the rooms themselves are rather dated ( early 70's). On arrival we greeted by what seemed a hundred kids in the reception area (later found out that there was a football tournament that was to last the whole week of our stay. Apart from being pushed about by a rather surly and rude Portugese man at the reception(belonging to the football party) the receptionist apologised on his behalf. There were only 2 lifts in the hotel and the Portugese monopolised them on our arrival - (so the my other half had to do the farmers walk and carry them up 3 floors). The room on appearance looked ok but on closer inspection there was dust over the dressers and bedside cabinets - I drew a line in the dust on the phone receiver (and it was was still there on the saturday of departure!!!!)( the wardrobe doors were off their runners, so my other half had to fix them - the cleaner came in everday and emptied the waste paper bin as I made my own beds each morning and she left them (obviously I make a good bed!!) - the breakfast consisted of the usual continental rolls jams cheeses and ham - but the ultimate had to be the american style breakfast - scrambled egg with hot dog sausages, scrambled egg with beans, scrambled egg with bacon and if you were lucky on one of the mornings you may have been able to spot the mushrooms!!!! - the resort itself had plenty of nice bars and restaurants and I would recommend it and return - but unfortunately not to this hotel.

Went on cheap last minute holiday to...

Went on cheap last minute holiday to this hotel. Clean, basic, friendly. The food wasn’t up to much I have to admit but there was plenty, lol. There are clean towels every day, beds made etc.
There are plenty of restaurants in Monte Gordo so finding a decent meal is not hard. It’s a quiet resort which suited us just fine as we wanted to relax. Scenery is beautiful (saw dolphins in sea on the last day, magical!!)
I would recommend if you are after a cheap, no frills holiday. And if you do visit I also recommend you visit Bell 3 bar on a side street near the casino and ask Manuel to make you a jug of sangria, it’s delicious!
The best, friendly guy, nice bar, good service even when busy! Back to the hotel.....we got more than what we paid for so was happy!
