Dom Pedro Portobelo Hotel

Having read some of the reviews here I was expecting a phenomenal value-for-money hotel. When you get there you realise that the Dom Pedro chain has 3 hotels in this area, Portobello being probably the least impressive building. However, the hotel has a number of good points - These include a large apartment-like self-contained room and close proximity to the beach. We stayed here for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. On arrival, there was ample parking, the staff were friendly (and spoke very good english) and the lift was plenty big enough for two people and two suitcases! The room was massive and provided almost everything including and iron and ironing board, the only thing not included was a hairdryer (but I'm yet to go anywhere where they are included!). What can i say, we stayed at the hotel at the end of April 2006, upon arrival the reception service was excellent. We went into our room and what lovely surroundings met us just like home from home (very spacious) we were supplied with absolutely everything so next time i wont take my iron (no need). They even suppy towels for the pool area. There was an excellent view of the pool area and other surroundings. Although the Portobelo is pretty old and tired looking, the rooms are huge. It really needs a facelift. The pool is great, but not enough sunbeds - although the beach is not far and the sand is lovely. The bar needs are kick up the a**e - no atmosphere at all! We didn't use the Mexican restaurant attached (don't think anyone else did either!). my wife and i stayed here in february 2006, highly reccomended this hotel. clean bright and friendly staff, they even presented me with a bottle of bubbly cos it was my birthday during our stay. breakfast was great , a good selection buffet. overall our impression was good, the rooms were comfortable and clean, and yes there is a sea view, really reccomend this hotel and thanks to the staff for a lovely time the REDLAD

Having stayed in the area many times in the past we decided to give this hotel a go for 5 nights. Found the staff very friendly and welcoming (they provided port and a fruit basket as we were celebrating an important birthday). The room was a large one bed apt. and it was clean. The decor is a little dated and the bathroom did not have an electric shaver powerpoint nor was there a hairdryer - also there was a lot of mould around the shower - this was offputting to say the least. Great location, view of sea, and a few steps to marina and shops

My wife and I spent New Years at Dom Pedro Portobelo Hotel, and had a wonderful time there. The warm atmosphere, the location, (the casino is within walking distance and the marina, restaurants and little Shoppe?s are just around the corner) and the services were superb. We will be back again and suggest anyone looking for a great retreat to check it out. It has all the fine services a top-notch hotel has to offer, without selling your shirt to pay for it!

I spent a week in this hotel in a studio apartment on a self-catering basis in April 2003. The fittings were above average and not even an American could complain about the plumbing. There was a good-sized balcony which unfortunately didn't get a lot of sun. I found the bed only just adequate as it had a footboard and I'm 6' 3". The room was kept scrupulously clean, as was the whole establishment. There is a large swimming pool and a small pool for children, again cleaned daily.
