Do not go to this hotel, everything about it lead to an awful holiday. My husband went down with a stomach bug on the second day along with lots of other people in the hotel. We could not decide what had caused it, he was laid up for 4 days. I eventually had to go to a nearby pharmacy and get him some antibiotics which helped clear things up.

The hotel is vast with many steps and slopes. I fell and hurt my knee which did not help and had to hobble for the entire holiday.

On arrival we were given the keys to a room that had not been cleaned, the bed was unmade and there were dirty things everywhere. Luckily the head porter had shown us to the room and took us straight back to reception. We were given another room that was clean and tidy but like the rest of the hotel needed complete refurbishment.

The reception staff were particularly unhelpful and the head receptionist was nothing less than rude and arrogant. I will say that the waiters in the restaurant were very good and helpful and the majority of the barmen were also very good.

The hotel used to be owned by the Occidental Group but was sold over two years ago, however the hotel is still trading on that name.

We were all inclusive but on the last day, despite not leaving the hotel until 4pm, our wrist bands were removed at 12.00 midday and we then had to pay for drinks if wanted. We were given a voucher for the restaurant but were restricted to that one place and no drinks. We have been AI in many different hotels and have always been AI until we left the hotel regardless of time.

Morocco and certainly this particular hotel are not somewhere we would ever consider returning to again.

Absolutely amazing can not wait...

Absolutely amazing can not wait to go again, loved very single minute I was there. The hotel looks a bit dated and I believe it is a 3 star rating, but the service you receive is 5 star. The staff were friendly, helpful and always happy to help. The pool was small but adequate, the rooms were spacious and fully air conditioned at all times. The beach was lovely white sand the sea a gorgeous colour of turquoise, though it did get a little rough towards the end of my holiday. The shopping centers were a 5 minute walk either side of the hotel, the night life was a 10 minute bus ride, and the bus fare was cheap, at the time it was roughly 50p. Tipping is a big thing in Cancun everyone in the bars and restaurants have a tip jar.

Things to do in Cancun - Coco Bongos is a most for all ages the shows they put on, impersonators, Bettlejuice, The Mask, Spiderman shows (on the ropes flying around above you), the acrobats you need to go there and see it for yourself.

Chichen Itza the Mayan Pyramids they are sight and to here how they lived in the middle of the jungle and how advanced they were. Climbing to the top of their main pyramid and to look out over the landscape would have been lovely (but it was bad weather when I got to the top) if you have a thing about heights it's not great when you walking down it.

There are loads of things to do in Cancun you can drive your own speed boat around the Lagoon and out into the sea and stop by the reef and go snorkeling around the reef. Also there is swimming with dolphins, Captain Hook (as Thomson called it) spending an evening on a Spanish galleon style boat have a meal and then there is a show as the crew from the two boats battle.

While I was at the hotel hurricane Wilma decided to come along and unfortunately my last week was spent in a shelter, but the staff stayed with us and kept us up to date as much possible. The only problem while we were there were the Americans and I could not wait to leave them behind.

Wilma did cause problems for a lot of the hotels along the hotel zone, however it was October 2005 when she came around and the resort, as far as i know, is open again for the tourist. I will be going back to Cancun, but not in hurricane season. If you are thinking of going to Cancun really consider it as there is something for everyone.

What a fantastic holiday!!!!!! It is simply not possible to forward any negative comments. Service excellent, food superb, comfort faultless, activities first class, entertainment marvellous!!

My wife Caroleann and I, together with many friends that we made such as Tony & Keely, Terry & Chris (all of whom had holidayed just about everywhere else too) had the same very, very high opinion of Occidental Village and Cancun.

We are certain that anyone saying anything detrimental about it has ulterior motives. We even suspect that these people may not have even stayed at this hotel cause you wouldn't wish to say anything derogatory about it out of loyalty and respect for the staff of whom would willingly pamper to your every need and with blatant pleasure in doing so.

This was a lovely hotel, the staff were absolute gems with particular praise for the entertainment team!!

The room could have been slightly bigger, but were cleaned daily and had adequate facilities.

The three a la carte restaurants served excellent meals however the buffet was aimed to a more American palette.

An excellent holiday though-cant wait to return!!!

Hi I went to the occidental Caribbean village Cancun last may I hated every minute of it.

We rain in the second week and our rooms were fitted with carpets which were soaked. When we arrived and you enter the rooms they smell really bad of amp. The standard rooms have no balcony and have a window that opens about 2 inches wide.

The food was monatomic and was warm ups from either the afternoon meal and some things at breakfast were from the night before i.e. chicken the pool was dirty with scum floating on the top. We both ended up with inner outer and middle ear infections and were admitted to hospital.

When we got back I complained whilst we were there regarding the state of the place and were told they were going to refurbish in the September. When we got back I left my opinion on another site and a gent contacted me and said he had stayed there 2 years earlier and it was the same then, when he complained they told him the same, that it was going to be refurbished that year.

Personally I would never go back to Cancun as I never liked there it is for the very young and there isn’t much to do if your going for a quiet holiday I would say if you want to go to Mexico give Playa Del Carmen or Cozemel a try these areas are lovely with loads to do.
