Express By Holiday Inn Stirling Hotel

We stayed at the Holiday Inn for two nights during August on a short visit to Scotland. The hotel is located on an industrial estate on the edge of Stirling with a modern eating pub next door. It wasquiet at night and there was very good links with main roads for travelling. Being a Holiday Inn you get exactly what you might expect so no suprises there. Miles from anywhere unlike the stated "easy access to town": bank on £5 in a taxi or a 30 minute walk into town. No redeeming features (unless you count the business park it's sited on as one) or decent food options nearby (unless you include a dreary pub chain that stops serving re-heated/pre-packaged food at 9.30pm or Burger King) Arrived lateish (9.30) was tired but hungry so decided to brave the pub next door: not serving food. Stayed here on business recently. Generally well maintained and presented and exactally what you would expect from HIE. My BIG problem however was with the other patrons of the hotel. Whn I arrived I was alarmed to find out that a dog show was in town for some particularly annoying small breed of terrier. AND THEY WERE ALL STAYING IN MY HOTEL. We booked a family room at the Holiday Inn Express at Stirling for 2 nights. The main thing for us is cleanliness, we travel with our 3 young children and I'm sure other parents agree with the importance of this - our room was immaculate and we were very happy with it. Breakfast was basic but very nice with plenty of choice. The hotel is convenient for Stirling and there is a nice family orientated restaurant next door.

I have no idea why this hotel would only merit 1 star (see Hotel Class above). My mother and I found it to be exactly what we needed for our last two nights in Scotland. First, a little background. A typical Holiday inn Express which means good clean rooms and a reasonable continental breakfast at great weekend rates £49 per room for up to 2 adults and 2 kids. Location wise not so good if you don't drive there but even so a taxi ride from the rail station was under £4 as not really walkable. Can't fault the hotel however but if location is important to you then this would not be the best place.

We loved this hotel. After staying in a "quaint, local" hotel in Dublin we were happy to get to the Holiday Inn in Stirling for some American style accomodations. The rooms were large compared to European standards, the staff was friendly and it came with continental breakfast. We booked it because it was so close to the William Wallace memorial. We could see it out of our window. It was a great experience. One warning about the Hungry Horse restaurant next door. When the cook gets overwhelmed with orders he shuts the kitchen down.... more
