Beautiful place, horrible experience
We stayed at the Atholl Palace Hotel for two nights with our tour group. We were given a turret room - nice view. When we got to the room we found the room with 3 windows. One window had over 25 flies. The other two had 6 or 7 each. We called the front desk and it took them 25 minutes to get some one to come up. She brough RAID and sprayed. When I looked at the can, it stated not contact with skin and do not breathe. We asked for another room and they placed us facing a wall in the far corner of the "palace". We said no thanks, went back to... more
terrible reception and weird food combinations
We had booked the turret suite for our honeymoon but it had been flooded and would not be ready but we would be given a very good room instead and be well looked after. We were actually given a room 3 grades down from our original suite. We arrived at 1.45pm after a 5 and a half hour drive to a very frosty reception and a disagreement between another guest and the receptionist. Were told our room would not be ready till 2pm, but no offer of refreshments etc. Evening meal booked for 7.30pm but on arrival we were told that they were fully... more
Frosty reception
Booked a room direct with hotel, had stayed before and had enjoyed it so obviously didn't expect a problem. On arrival the receptionist was very frosty, was given a garden room with views blocked by 2 large extractor fans. Returned to reception and advised them that the room was not to our liking. The receptionist seemed to take exception to this, took the key from me and handed another without any eye contact. By this point I was regretting booking with them. The other room on the second floor had amazing views but a double bed and a single... more
Spectacular hotel but moody service and terrible food
This should be a fabulous hotel. It occupies an beautiful building - like a Disneyesque castle - on a hilltop with amazing views along the valley. The lobby is vast and grandiose. The rooms were very comfortable, light and airy, with beautiful bathrooms. The bar is cosy and appealing. There is plenty of parking, and delightful gardens. The spa is also impressive, with a good-sized pool (although shallow), jacuzzi, steam rooms and sauna. Two things let the place down. First, the staff. We were a large group, but we had booked... more
So good I wrote this as soon as I got home
I've just returned from staying at the Atholl Palace for three nights with my mum and sister. The setting is beautiful and it is a very grand hotel. I was worried it may be a bit too posh for my liking but it has a very relaxing atmosphere and is very cosy in the evenings, despite its size. The staff are very friendly ( apart from one lady at reception who seemed put out by our request for a complimentary cup of tea when our room wasn't quite ready). She was the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. The food served was very good, along with the... more
Fantastic - experience
My daughter and son in law booked their wedding and reception at the hotel. Throughout our stay off three nights we were treated with the greatest of respect. From the wedding planners Roz and Gillian, to all the staff concerned we found the wedding day to be planned to perfection. We brought people from Africa America Ireland and England for the occasion and every one of them has never been to such a good well maintained hotel. The reception drinks and canopys on the lawn was fantastic. Meal at the reception was run to... more
Nice hotel, shame about the food.
My wife and I stayed at the hotel for three nights on a recent stay. I had originally requested just B&B, but when I received our confirmation we had been "upgraded" to B&B and evening meals. I didn't think that it was too much of a problem as I'd heard very good things about the restaurant. The hotel is a grand old building and retains the charms of the typical Scottish hydro. The hotel has a pleasant atmosphere and the views from the restaurant are amazing. Some of the decor could do with a touch up but generally it’s in fairly... more
Nice hotel for a night away.
My husband and I have just returned from an overnight stay at the Atholl Palace and I have to stay we both generally enjoyed it. We arrived early as we were both having treatments done in the hotel spa facilities. As there was only one therapist, I had to wait in reception. However, the receptionist asked house keeping if they would be able to sort out our room quickly to allow me access. This was done and I got the keys at 11.30am. My husband and I both enjoyed the massages we got, but were extremely disappointed to... more
Nice Hotel, but Overpriced
I really do not have anything bad to say about this hotel, as the grounds were quite nice and the rooms were more than adequate during our April stay. The food seemed to be at or above average as well. We chose to stay at this hotel for a wedding, as we were not very familiar with Pitlochry. I would not discourage others from staying there as well, but it does seem that the hotel is a bit expensive relative to competition. If we were to stay again, I think we would choose one of the numerous guest houses and B&Bs that are located in town,... more
Complaints and more complaints
Why do some have to be high and mighty, slating a place for everything. Listening to your room neighbours is enjoyment for some. In busy hotels the restaurant can be empty for an hour and a half then everyone comes at the same time. Go to Gleneagles, pay £180 per night and the same thing happens. You can also bet if more people used the bar it would be bigger. If people wanted drinks in the afternoon there would soon be extra barmen on duty. The Athol palace did very well for us, and you can be sure they are improving all the time<br... more
