breakfast ok but dinner awful
from pinklady_8
Stayed here with two children my husband and the dog.staff very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was ok but I feel I must comment on the dinner which was in our package DBB it was just awful dinner consisted of a poor choice of salmon or pork chop a bowl of frozen veg and three baby potatoes starters were soup and herring tried soup it was consomme thin and watery At night in the hotel there was no entertainment so we were forced to our rooms at 8pm to watch TV as children are not allowed in any bars after this time Pitlochry is a beautiful wee village like simething on the front of a chocolate box weith lovely walks and scenery. I must tell you we went out to eat one night and the only place that would accomadate children after 8pm was arestraunt called Victorias restraunt I must warn you extremely expensive i got a fillet steak it cost £21 it came with frozen chips and was raw even though i asked for it to be medium to well done

Thank you for your recent review, and your good comments about breakfast & the staff at the hotel. The issue with dinner is isolated and the relevant training has been given where required. Seasonal vegetables are now available & we will have new menus in place by the end of May & I look forward to welcoming you back to Scotland's to give them a try.
Pretty Good

Stayed for a Christmas party night all inclusive. Room was fine, if a little small but I only slept there. Shower was good though. Dinner was excellent. Beer was not good. Entertainment was a disco which was okay after a number of beers. Everyone seemed to have a good time. Enjoyed it.

A good hotel in a centra location
from GlasGal
We booked this hotel for two nights through 241.ClassicBritain website. I only read the reviews after I had made the booking so I was a bit concerned about what we may experience. When we checked in the staff were friendly and although they had not had our booking on their system were happy to proceed with the copy of the confirmation email I gave them. We stayed in the annexe called the Bank House. The rooms were big, clean and comfortable and with all the extras you’d expect from a 3 star hotel. I’ve stayed in many 3 star hotels throughout the UK and this was of a similar standard. If you were in the annexe I agree had it been raining it would’ve made the short walk to the hotel inconvenient. The hotel is in a good central location with easy access to shopping and public transport. We didn’t use the leisure facilities however they looked ok. Dinners on both evenings were very good. There were three choices of starters, main (one vegetarian) and dessert. The menu changes every day. On our first evening we were both full after two courses and refused a dessert. The waiter suggested a fruit cocktail, which was not one of the choices. It was real fruit and a lighter way to finish our meal. Breakfast was good too. My only grumble was the sausage was a bit bland but edible. We found all the staff at the hotel to be friendly, polite and attentive. It certainly made our few days away most enjoyable. Pitlochry itself is a great base to visit other places of interest.
Such a shambles

Stayed one night and sooooo glad we did not stay another. The whole experience left a bad taste in our mouths. From rude bar staff to small cramped room we could not find many redeeming features for this hotel. The facade of the hotel promises much but once inside it started to go downhill, ok-ish check-in but not very welcoming, a great staircase then into corridors similar to a run down "travelodge", to a room that could be descirbed as a compact double, with a cracking view of a wall and a roof. A carpet cleaner and a few 21st century fitments would do wonders. Dinner in McNabs Bistro was, slow, to the point of feeling forgotten, very un-professional and of no joy, the asked for coffe never arrived, water served in a plastic jug of better days, the only highlight wqas a free glass of wine because we complained about the delay. A night cap in the bar was a disaster, the Aussie barman served an expensive local malt whisky in a tumbler, saying" run outa glasses will this do?" did the G n T and then asked for £13.60, when I fell about laughing, and asked if London prices had finally hit Scotland, the Bar Manager, peel off a reciept, stuck it on the bar and said "thats our price, take a look". When I asked if the staff had training in service, i was given the "too busy, short stfaffed routine". So it was one drink away to bed, up early, into breakfast, the only good staff member on duty was an eastern european guy. Mediocre breakfast, lousy checkout. and thank god for our B & B the next night.
Great friendly hotel, good value too boot!!

This was our second visit in six months and we both thorougly enjoyed it. We stayed in the hotel annexe and the rooms we had were great, no bath but hey I can live with that. The food was excellent value and while the veggie dinner option could be a bit more inspiring I certainly had nothing to complain about. There were a lot of polish people waiting the tables but language was not a problem and they were very friendly. If the Scottish people wanted the jobs then there would not be jobs for the Polish people so good on them. The leisure facilities were adequate and the lockers could do with an update, three working keys in the men's room and not much better in the female ones. Will I be back yes I will.
Nice enough, but poor value

I cannot provide a full review as we did not use or see the leisure facilities nor did we have dinner in the hotel but, as for the rest……. Main plus point for the hotel is its location which is very central to Pitlochry with the main shopping street only being a few yards (metres) from the front door. We arrived by car (and the hotel does have adequate car parking available) but it is also fairly close to the railway line and bus routes. The first room we were allocated was very small with only a shower in the bathroom and what looked like a DIY built half height wardrobe. On complaining, we were immediately offered a move to a family room which certainly was much bigger and had a bath. However, we could only have this room for the first night which was slightly inconvenient as we did not want to unpack our case just to have to pack it up again the next morning. We were promised a further move for our second nights stay and this was to a room in one of the hotels annexes (called Bank House I think) and this was more in keeping with the size of room we would have expected. All three of the rooms we saw were a bit disappointing in their general décor without having anything seriously wrong with them. The bathrooms in all three looked to have been recently decorated with fairly modern fittings but still showed signs of mould on the tile grouting. None of these rooms had any view to speak of although the annexe room did look onto the road fronting the hotel. Whilst it did not present us with any problem, there may also be some inconvenience in being in the annexe in bad weather if you wanted to use the main building for either dining or the leisure facilities as it was necessary to make a short uncovered journey down the street. Breakfast in the dining room was efficient on our first morning (a Friday) but appeared to be more problematic on the Saturday morning with some guests being asked to wait in the bar until a table became available and the service being notably slower. I would assume that this was due to the hotel being nearly full and most of the guests arriving for breakfast at roughly the same time. The breakfast buffet first course was a bit limited with only 4 varieties of cereal available, two drinks (orange and tomato juice), some fruit and a selection of bread. The menu choices for the plated second course were reasonable but some items required a hefty additional charge (kippers for example) and I thought that providing only a half slice of black pudding was being ever so slightly tight-fisted. On the Saturday morning, both of our second course orders were not what we had requested despite the order having been written down when taken but, again, this may have been due to the amount of guests being served. All in all, I was disappointed with this hotel as we had booked two nights B&B at a, not inconsiderable, cost of just over £100 per night per room and, whilst this was at the height of the holiday season, I would seriously question this hotel as value for money.
Nice town. Poor hotel

We have just returned home from 2 nights in the Scotland's hotel & I would not return to this hotel. The rooms were not good and were in dire need of a freshen up. The bathroom roof had wallpaper coming away from it, one of the light fittings was hanging out of the roof as the hole was too big, our shower ran Extremely HOT or Freezing COLD. Not to mention the lovely view of the adjoining wings roof. The menu looked good but if you book dinner bed and breakfast you were not able to pick from the dinner menu. Well thats not 100% true. You were able to choose from the dinner menu but the startes had a £5 supplement and the main coures were between £7-£15. During our second night we chose to eat away from the hotel seeing as this was the case. All in all I would not recommend you come here as there are plenty of other hotels to choose from.
enjoyable expereince

Stayed at the Scotland's Hotel for a week as part of a group. Our room was spacious and very clean with a comfortable bed. Servicing of the room was very good. The leisure facilities were excellent with the pool and the spa bath being very clean and well maintained. The gym was well equipped. The food was tasty and the choice of dishes reasonable, the breakfast was especially good. The service received from every member of staff we encountered was excellent which made for a nice atmosphere. The location of the hotel is ideal. Our only grumble was the high bar prices!
Disappointing rooms...
from ThumbelinaPM_10
We have just returned from a weekend in Pitlochry 20-22 April 2007 and whilst the area is beautifiul, we were rather disappointed with thte standard of the hotel, especially the rooms and corridors which are in need of some refurbishment though I admit the rooms were, at least, clean. As mentioned by other travellers, the staff in the leisure area and the dining room are mostly Polish and without exception, were extremely helpful and pleasant. However the best thing about our stay was the food which was really wonderful and of a much higher standard than the rest of the hotel. The pool area and changing rooms do need a face lift but again were clean and worth a visit. The worst part of the experience for me was in trying to make the bookings. I had seen a deal on the hotel's website and without being informed I later realised I was actually booking through a third party i.e. Easy Breaks.com who I found to be rude, unhelpful and due to the way they treated me and my party, I almost cancelled the whole weekend and will certainly NEVER book any deal with them in the future.
absolutely loved my 2 night stay at the hotel. our double room was really nice and clean. staff were excellent and very helpful. all food consumed was of excellent standard, especially enjoyed the breakfast. only downside to our stay was we were in one of the rooms not... more
