Did't even stay the night.
We booked this hotel for a relaxing weekend away , the bar and lobby areas seemed ok a bit dull though. The lady at check in was friendly , although we were not told anything about the leisure facilites. The room was awful there was a mouldy/smokey smell in the room. The furniture was old as was the carpet .There was a double and single bed in the room .which made it cramped . The walls in room ( and in the hotels lobby) had painted breeze block , that's what you find on the outside of a house not in a supposedly 4 star ( that's what's outside more like 2 ) it was late afternoon . if we had stayed we would have been bored to tears . We heard about this hotel a few years ago when it was a Mcdonald . We'd booked 2 nights , which we had paid £220 for.But there was storm damaged to the rooms ,so we were relocated to The Ardoe House Hotel .We were glad because this hotel even back then is not woth that .We are amazed having stayed at a few mcdonald hotels that they would of had one of this standard.
GOING DOWNHILL FAST
This hotel is going downhill fast. I have stayed here several times and ate here lots. The service is nothing like it used to be.. We ate in the bar and found the barmaid to be terrible. Even though there was only two others eating, plates were left unattended and food served while staff simply walked past. The food is now definitely overpriced. Only last year I was saying that I enjoyed coming here, but not any more. The room was tired to say the least. If money is not spent on refurbishment fast, it's finished. The Leisure centre is almost disgusting! Before you go, check if it has been refurbished, if not don't go.
Poor food at the Waterside
Staff were friendly and helpful, but the room itself was very mediocre. The gym was a good facility to have, bu the pool is far too small for a proper swim. The big no no for me was the food. Way overpriced for poor quality. tried something different over three nights and wasn't happy with any. On the last night I thought can't go wrong with a curry, but at over a tenner it tasted like cheap chicken in a supermarket value sauce. Would never eat here again
An average experience
This hotel has delusions of adequacy. It is no better than a Travel Inn accomodation wise but %50 more expensive. Has a general air of tiredness and seems understaffed. The Bar menu lacked imagination
A relaxing stay
The hotel was old fashioned, but was in the process of being done up. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was good. The hotel was clean and the pool and gym were of a decent standard. The rooms had all the essentials but was in need of up grading. Overall not a bad stay.
Good hotel
I have stayed in this hotel on numerous occasions over the past four years when working in Peterhead. The hotel is not particuarly impressive from the outside but is nice inside. It used to be run by the McDonald chain but was then taken over by Swallow. I would say that things have deteriorated slightly since then but it is still a good hotel. The rooms are large and spacious. They are maybe becoming a bit frayed around the edges but they are always clean. The staff on check-in are usually friendly and helpful. I don't usually get an explanation about the hotel upon check-in as they usually ask if I have stayed before but I am sure that they would explain the hotel facilities available. The food in both the restaurant and the bar are of a high standard. The restaurant is lovely although quite pricey. The bar serves a high standard of pub meals and you are free to eat from the restaurant menu in more relaxed surroundings. The only complaint I would have is that, on my last visit, the bar staff serving the meals were less than attentive but that is not usually the case. The breakfasts in the morning are great - good selection. There is one lady who works during the breakfast period who is just great. She has been there every time I have stayed. I cannot recall her name but she is a local lady and is just so friendly in the morning. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she always takes an interest in the guests and what they have been up to. The last few times I have stayed there I have paid £85 for dinner, bed and breakfast. I think this is extremely reasonable, particularly given that this was the rate for single occupancy of the room. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Peterhead.
speachless
Only friendly person was the lovely lady at breakfast time.... no one at reception told us about leisure facilities..or even a goodbye when we left. Had to carry luggage and walk over dirty laundry when leaving our room.... my dutch friend could not believe the service nor could I. Plenty of lovely hotels around.. give this one a miss.... scots traveller with dutch tourist
Fair Enough
As the English Gentleman above wrongly states, there are many Hotel, pubs, places to eat in Peterhead. Waterside hotel is fair although expensive but there are a lot of alternatives for the food in the surrounding area.
Good Family Hotel
October 2004 School half term holidays, took wife & kids (17, 15 & 13) on 'special deal' Good hotel, leisure facilities good. Spacious bedrooms. Decent breakfast- would be better if it was a buffet style though. Evening meal way too expensive £32 !! Obviously only business guests can afford this. We had bar meal which was very good, even kids said they enjoyed it. Links golf course very near. Ideally it is a relaxing hotel not much in surrounding area unless you like golf! We enjoyed our time there - would go back.
Poor value, weak dining room.
Hotel itself is fine, if a bit institutional. It is not a tourist area, so the guests are business people on expense accounts whose companies probably have corporate deals so they can't go elsewhere. Food overcooked and overpriced, but there seems to be no alternative within 15 miles/25km. (Italian in Ellon is quite good - forgotten the name).
