Swallow Queens Hotel

Was disapointed in the room which did not have a view, was quite small and lacking even a picture on the wall to give it a bit of cheer. Small basic TV with four channels. I didn't appreciate the receptionist's briefing on using circuit breakers to make things work in the bathroom and how to use the sink plug. The much hyped spa bath was extremely noisy and unfortunately you could hear everybody elses working through the thin walls. We stayed for two nights. Barman useless and ignorant with a severe attitude towards paying guests. One girl was very helpful in the restaurant. Anything we asked the owner/manageress for she said it was not her job. The food in restaurant was good so it made up for the rest. We were not made welcome and felt as if we were in the way.We were at a friends wedding if it had not been for this i would have left. Please save your money or go some where else they really spoiled our weekend with there stuck up attitude towards there paying guests.

Basic room, but everything is new and clean. Comfortable bed. The jacuzzi with colored lights is a fun touch. Front of the hotel is lit up all night, so even though the view is great, if you need to sleep in total darkness, get a room in the back. The staff is exceptionally nice and helpful.

The hotel has been very well upgraded and includes a jacuzzi bath in your room. All the rooms look newly furnished and well decorated. However the service we received was very poor. For example, the barman was surly and rude, despite charging me £ 10.60 for 2 drinks. I don't mind the price if the service reflects. I had booked to stay in this hotel last weekend but at the last minute had to change our arrangements due to a family bereavement. Mrs Hyams (owner) could not have been more helpful. We had a twin room on the first floor and a double room on the fourth floor and the view was amazing. My mother-in-law is 94 and her mobility is not very good. Our first stay since the new owners took over and we are pleased to say that it is much improved. The room was clean and comfortable but could do with a couple of pictures and a mirror just to lift it. Dinner was excellent. We would certaily return.

After booking the hotel for a romantic getaway with my fiancee, I was pleasantly surprised to find the hotel had received a total refurbishment (full brand new carpeting and decoration) and a spar bath in the en-suite which was a big bonus after a hard days sightseeing around Oban. After reading some of the previous reviews, we were a little worried by what we may find. However, we need not have worried as everything was wonderful. We had a room in the annex that had just been completely refurbished - and very nicely too. We had a lovely view of the bay. Just returned from a short break at the Queens. Was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews but realised these reviews were written before the new owners had taken over and refurbished the hotel. There were new carpets, newly decorated rooms, fabulous spa bath in the room and the whole place was spotless. The owners were very friendly, the restaurant served delicious food and we will definitely stay there next time we go to Oban.

Stayed at the Queens for one night. For £60.00 per night for DBB., grossly overpriced. Entrance shabby. bedroom tatty, meals tasteless, rediculously small portions. My wife asked for scrambled egg and black pudding. She got 1 dryed scrambled egg and 1 slice of black pudding. Glad we had booked at another hotel for the other 2 nights.
