quality hotel
Had a brilliant stay, found hotel clean, warm, and friendly staff, willing to chat but always on lookout to help others, food was brilliant and not too long to wait for, drinks a wee bit pricey, but always are in hotels, lovely view, As I stay in hotles b & b 40 weeks of the year, would thoroughly recommend Oban Bay Hotel

Hotel review with no exclaimation marks!
We stayed in the Oban Bay on the 6th and 7th of June and enjoyed our stay . The all inclusive deal was good value, the room was clean and nicely decorated (powerful enough shower) and the food was perfectly acceptable. yes here is very limited parking, but we found a spot 50m away on the esplanade - no big deal. The staff were very friendly - although one of the bar staff's enquiry regarding his colleague's success during the previous evenings romantic encounter was maybe a bit too candid. We stayed in the Manor last time in Oban, and while... more

Don't believe all you see on the glossy website!
We booked the hotel through Classic Britain and were offered a room upgrade and free parking. When checking in we were told that there were no superior rooms and that you had to book parking and that it woul be £5 per night! The room we were allocated was just adequate. It was on the 3rd floor of the dated extension that is not mentioned on the website! From entering the hotel to getting in to the lift you have to negotiate four sets of about 5 stairs and several short corridors carrying luggage! By the time you reach your attic... more

It seems an unfortunate set of circumstances had alot to do with you and your friend leaving with what i definatley consider to be the wrong opinion of our popular hotel. Firslty i would state that the company you booked through didn't check to see if we had upgraded rooms available for your stay, when the booking came through we informed them of this situation. Dinner service for the Saturday night all our guests had been made aware when booking that we had a wedding in place and that any dinners we had we would be serving in our front lounge, i agree the seating arrangements were not perfect and yes its something we need to look at ourself before we do our next wedding but i'm sure the food service and views made up for your slight discomfort. With regards to us having no therapist available on the Sunday morning our therapist called early that day suffering from the flu i can assure you we tried both of our sister hotels for a replacement therapist on the day but all were fully booked but alas to no avail. I would hope that if you were to stay with us in the future i'm sure we could change your opinion.

Beware the all inclusive deal
Oban Bay is a functional 3* hotel, traditional in decor and similar to many in Oban. It is well situated and it's sea-fronted conservatory is a good spot to enjoy a drink and take in the lovely views of Kerrara and Mull. Don't get your hopes up though. Behind the glossy website, all is not what it seems. What you don't see is the ugly monstrosity of a large extension behind the hotel, which menaces the Oban skyline and is where you will likely find yourself staying. Views from here are minimal - we had a charming one of the rear alley... more

I was surprised to read your comments about the hotel. I'm sure the extended building to the rear of the hotel is not a monstrosity as you state especially when you consider that inside is equally refurbished as any part of the hotel.I would add if a room with a view had been requested we would have done our best to provide. By "all inclusive" you mean dinner bed & breakfast and all our hotels work from the same menu's and are produced using local produce and to set standards. The menu you question with the atlantic seafood risotto does use as it states salmon, haddock and prawns all sourced by local supplier and from the atlantic the rice our chefs use is a aborio risotto rice which is a short grain rice. Our menus are in the middle of being updated using more local suppliers. The supplement for a la Carte on our bistro menu is on a slightly lower rate for our dinner bed & breakfast guests and has received high commendations. You question our parking we know its limited and thats why we ask all guests to pre book and thats why we charge £5 per day also otherwise yes 100 yards both directions free parking which the ladies and gents on reception do pass on to all guests, all Oban hotels have none or very little parking available. With regards to the service yes we have just employed some new waiting staff who are being trained to our standards in hospitality which is normally very high. I thank you for your comments which only help us to improve and hope you'll come again to visit.

A very pleasant experience
My partner and I stayed on the evenings of 25th and 26th April, and booked through Easy Breaks. Reading earlier reviews I was a bit apprehensive, but my partner reassured me the hotel would be fine, and guess what.......it was great! We had booked a DBB option (£154), and the food was fantastic. Portions were not the largest but the quality of food was excellent. If you want you can expand on the menu with an A' La Carte option. We both felt there was plenty of choice and stayed with the set one. The room we had was small, but was... more

Relaxing short break
My husband and I have just spent 2 nights at this lovely hotel. On arrival, we were welcomed by a very pleasant young man at reception and found the rest of the staff (without exception) extremely friendly and obliging. The room was clean and comfortable and the food and service in the restaurant first class. The lounge offers stunning views and a great chance to get acquainted with the rest of the guests in relaxed surroundings. We would definitely return to this hotel and recommend it to people of all ages. Although there... more

Thank you for your kind words it has been a very busy start to the season and i hope we see you back in Oban again in the near future.

worth a stopover
If you travel to Scottish Islands (for example, Mall) and need a stopover hotel for a night - then it's OK. But it's the only reason to choose this hotel. It's no more than a 3*star, the so-called SPA made me laugh (it's a room with plunge pool and another room for sauna and massage), breakfast is not quite good, although enough for 3*. Rooms are VERY small, some in good condition, some are worse (bedrooms on the 1st floor are quite nice. but rooms starting with 3** number are very poor). View is good, but only from the terrace bar. All the... more
Management response from DarrellWilliams

I have to disagree with your comments with regards to our Spa, what you call a "plunge pool" is a well positioned hot-tub with views over the across to Kerrera and Oban bay, our steam room and sauna are well liked by our guests and very popular as are the massage treatments we offer. I know all our rooms don't have stunning views but if requested they are allocated or upgrades are available with a small surcharge.

First visit to Oban
The Oban Bay Hotel is well positioned with wonderful views from the public rooms, and friendly staff. We were shown to a small double room in the block behind the main hotel building which had limited views. The room was clean comfortable and well decorated, but there was almost no hot water to the shower; other guests complained about this. We booked DB&B, and, although the main course on the first night was good, the staff main objective seemed to be getting people in and out of the restaurant in record time, The special offer DB&B... more

During your stay we were experiencing water pressure problems which since this has been rectified apoligies for any inconvenience this may have caused. I know our restaurant can get very busy and can sometimes give the impression of a hurried enviroment at peak service times this i can assure you is not always the case. We do have spectacular seaiview rooms available if you request an upgraded room or Jnr suite. Our main aim is to assure guests satisfaction and a quality of service, I do hope you will come back and stay again in the near future.

Stay away from this hotel
Stay away ! The room was dark and looked out on a dirty wall. No other room available. The shower did not work despite 2 complaints. "We are busy, its Easter", we were told. The receptionist was friendly. 45 minutes wait for breakfast. "Its Easter....... ." STAY AWAY !!

Calling this a spa hotel is taking it too far!
We booked 2 nights in the Oban Bay hotel in February. The room was fairly clean but some things were past their best e.g. the rusty toilet seat! We were looking forward to the spa but found that there were no proper changing facilities, just a small curtained off area. When the area was busy this was really embarrassing and I ended up running through the hotel in my swimming costume so I could change in the room as no bath robes were provided! The sauna and steam room were in a seperate area so you had to walk along a hotel corridor in your... more
Management response from DarrellWilliams

I was surprised to read your comments regarding our spa facilities. Our changing area is not the largest i agree, but personally i find it more than ample to get ready or quick change. Our hotel group has an environmental policy with regards to the overuse of towels that guests can either use their room towels or pay £1.50 for an extra towel. We have so many good reviews regarding our service, food and the whole dining experience, I am sorry that you seem to have escaped our notice and didn't get that experience. All of our staff are friendly and helpful which i am happy you agree, so if there is ever a problem in any further stay you may arrange with us please let us know as we can only fix it if we know it's broken.
