Iberostar Phenicia Hotel, Hammamet
The Phenicia Hotel is very modern and stylish with a fantastic beachfront location, ideal for anyone wanting to combine plenty of activities with relaxation.
The long driveway runs through citrus trees and gardens which conceal seven tennis courts and the riding stables.

We (all 14 of us) stayed at the Phenicia in Hammamet and we couldn’t have chosen a better hotel. The hotel itself was clean, tidy and the staff were very nice and friendly. We went all inclusive and we ate and drank very well indeed with a full and varied selection at breakfast, lunch and dinner, not to mention the ‘snacks’.
The ‘animation’ team put on some good little shows, such as the Broadway Show and Lord of the Dance, as well as a karaoke night, bingo (in 3 or 4 languages) and the Miss and Mr Phenicia contests. All were great fun.
The swimming pools were clean and warm, especially the indoor/outdoor one. You can also use the ‘hammam’ (Turkish bath) for a few dinars, or the gym, which only had a few pieces of equipment.
If you decide to go camel riding or horse riding, do so at your own risk. One of our group was thrown from a camel and ended up in hospital for a few days with a broken arm. These excursions don’t have the same health and safety rules as the UK, so beware. However, this was not organised through Panorama but through a man at the hotel selling these excursions.
If you can, go with Panorama or Airtours, as their rep, Peter, was brilliant. He was very helpful and looked after us. The excursions that Panorama offer are very good.
Outside the hotel, the area was a little less tidy. A taxi ride to the main old town of Hammamet was about 10 minutes away and cost no more than 4 dinars (2 pounds). Once there, the old Medina (old walled city) is full of shops in tiny streets where you have to haggle for anything as nothing is priced. The golden rule here is pay only what you are prepared to pay from an item. The same goes for the new medina in the ‘new south’ which is in the brand new southern area known as Hammamet Yasmine, which was opened in 2004. Here, there are hundreds of new and yet to be completed hotels, and attractions including a casino and an ice skating rink. Be wary of eating out though. If you go all inclusive, you won’t need to.

The best holiday we have ever had!!!! We went with our families we are next-door neighbours and the hotel was great. They couldn’t look after you more. They don’t bother you either all they want to do is help!
The photographer is gorgeous Ramsey. We got the feeling his brother will be taking over (Mohammed) he is very nice too. The animation team what fun they are; and gorgeous too!!!!
We would give the Phenicia Hotel 20 out of 10!!! Dinners were great, the hotel was very clean, inexpensive and a wonderful staff. Perfect!
