Very good value
Stayed on business, it was very good value, clean but dated, but that didnt matter, nice swimming pool e.t.c on site but this costs £6 extra. The restauarnt was pretty average and overpriced so i advise you go looking about the town for a nicer meal. Locatuion was spot on and the town was lovely to walk about in. The staff were very friendly, and the breakfast was good. I would have no hesitations in staying here again for the price. If like me you arent that fussed by decor but more by value friendliness, amenities, cleanliness and... more
Dreadful Hotel with Fantastic Staff
We have just returned from a 2 day break at the Windlestrae Hotel. The hotel is like a time warp. I am in my mid-thirties and the decor of this hotel has never been fashionable during my conscious lifetime! The carpets downstairs are a blue floral pattern. The hotel bar looks like the day room of an old peoples home. The rooms were a little nicer than the communal areas and were quite spacious with a nice view. However, the decor again was just awful and so dated. However, despite the dreadful aesthetics of the hotel, the... more
OK but Dated
Spacious hotel set in peaceful surroundings. Food was ok with the exception of receiving stale sandwiches for a lunchtime snack. Staff were friendly and helpful but generally the hotel is tired and dated. It could do with an upgrade. Rooms were very large and quiet. Didn't have time to try the swimming pool but it look good from outside. All in all, an ok hotel which is fine for a day or two break.
Fantastic break away
It's nice to see all the changes happening at the hotel. The function room and dining room have already been refurbished to a very high standard. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable and the food very good. The staff were excellent - very friendly and helpful. We visited on a golf break and the 2 golf courses were both in excellent condition. Great value for money ! Will definately be back.
disappointed
Have just returned from a one night stay at the Windelstrae. We stayed here 10 years ago and loved the place. Things have gone dramatically downhill since, and this stay must rate as the worst that we have ever experienced anywhere. With 2 young kids in tow we paid £95 for a twin room including breakfast. Upon entering the room we were met with an appalling, putrid damp kind of smell, that was quite overpowering and nauseating. We tried to get another room but none were available. The girl offered to have the room sprayed with air... more
Windlestrae Hotel
Stayed at hotel for a twixtmas break had a wonderful time, spacious rooms, good leisure centre which we virtually had to ourselves. Staff very helpful, excellent breakfasts cooked to order. The only thing that let the place down was the evening meal in the restaurant. What looked very appetising on the menu was very disappointing when served ,it was bland and tasteless. The service was very poor, the waitress kept forgetting to bring what we asked and we gave up on the sweet we waited that long for it. I dread to think what the service... more
Dirty room
We booked one night bed and breakfast as we were attending a celebration dinner in the area. We only paid £58 for a twin room but the room had to be the worst we have stayed in in this country. There was a strange smell which we could not quite place. Corners had not seen a hoover for many a month. The toilet seat was broken with dried on splashes from previous user, also gunge and dust in the awkward to clean bits! the sealant round the bath also brown and gungy. electric heater had broken leg, mugs had not been washed properly. The... more
Scowling Barmaid
Following an excellent meal and an enjoyable meeting in the pleasant surroundings of the function suite (although slightly warm) my evening (2/1104) was soured by a scowling barmaid in the main bar who could not force a smile all night, threw empty bottles with an almighty crash into the bin and did not offer ice and slice with any shorts. It was obvious she did not want us to be there and did not believe that the sole purpose of a bar is surely to sell as much alcohol as possible and a number of conducive customers at the bar should have... more
Brilliant break
Stayed here for 2 nights and couldn't fault it. Reception staff, restaurant staff and bar staff were excellent. With comfortable rooms and really nice atmosphere, we will go back.
A great place
Stayed 3 nights at this hotel and I would defy anyone not to enjoy their stay. The leisure facilities are first class. Food is excellent, served on hot plates(you don't always get that). The staff are very friendly are are very willing to please. I have booked another stay there so that speaks for itself. To all the staff i say thank you and look forward to meeting again in the very near future
