Great Scottish welcome
I have just returned from the Isle of Mull Hotel, where I stayed for three nights with my parents. We found a great Scottish welcome awaiting us, with some excellent food produced by the new resident Chef. We chose fish a lot from the menu and were never disappointed. All the meals we had were delicious and served by friendly staff. The location is truly stunning, and we enjoyed sitting after dinner with a drink, taking in the wonderful views from this well run, friendly hotel. We are already making plans to stay again next Easter.... more
Nice Island, shame about this hotel
Stayed for a week, though saw 90% of the other guests change virtually daily. Well what do you expect from some where 'owned' by Coach companies. Seems to be very little incentive to try as guests are here today and gone tomorrow. It could be so much better
Awful food, awful ambience
A terrible experience from start to finish. The room I was in smelled like an old peoples home (stale urine and cigarettes). This is perhaps not suprising since most of the clientale seem to be the over 60s on coach tours. I found sitting in the lobby for more than about 5 minutes unbearable. Perhaps it was the accordian-accompanied renditions of 'Over the sea to sky' that seemed to take place every night. The food was almost completely unpalettable: I resorted to toast and butter for breakfast since the scrambled eggs were like a... more
Very disappointing
Friend & I have just returned from a short stay at this Hotel and were rather disappointed in a number of things. Dinner was below average and the portions quite small with vegetables only partially cooked and inedible. The majority of staff appeared to be from overseas and were very disorganised. The management did not seem to be interested and were unhelpful when we requested a change of room. The room we were allocated had shrubs and bushes growing half way up the window which made it difficult to see out and darkened our room... more
Great setting great food
Wondefull setting.Comfortable rooms. Fabulous food but calculated portions. First class grub, and enough really. But if you have a hearty appetite, you might be left wanting. Really friendly staff, expensive drinks, bar shuts at 11pm, total no smoking. Fabulous views from your bedroom. Walk to the Craignure Inn about a mile and get cheaper drinks and good company. Do not hesitate to book this hotel but keep a packet of cheese in your room in case you get hungry. I will go again.
What's the problem??
I have just returned from staying at the Isle of Mull Hotel and had a great time. To be honest, after reading some of the posts on here I was very wary however my experience was the total opposite of others on this site, it makes you wonder if there is a hotel in the world good enough for them! The rooms were nice and clean and had an excellent view across the bay. Most of the staff are foreign but all were keen to help. The food was top quality but if I were to complain about anything it would be about the price of drinks,... more
Top hotel ,great food and value
As the weather was bad so the ferry from Oban to Criagnure was late.We therfore expected our evening meal to be spoilt. Not so,the meal was very good, fresh and well presented. The food remained of a high standard although dont expect to leave your table feeling full of scotch pies, the portions are on the small side, may be to portion control. The South African waiter is worthy of mention, hes a great bloke always polite and willing to share a joke and is always very helpfull. The rooms are clean, warm and have great views across the bay.My friend... more
Limited choices on Mull
The view outside our window made up for the steady downpour that greeted us upon our arrival. New management was in place which resulted in somewhat questionable service although the staff was trying hard to please. Location is good for those trying to get in a visit to Iona.
Management response from GemahG

The Trip Advisor guest who stated that they stayed with us at this hotel is obviously mixing us up with someone else as this hotel was closed on the 21st January and did not open until the 10th February 2006

Bring your sense of humour with you!
We were a pilgrimage party of 33 people on our way to Iona and enjoyed our stay at this rather eccentric hotel. Great views of the harbour, huge dining room and lounge facilities, simple rooms but adequate for our needs and we never left the table feeling hungry. Room for us all to meet together made available readily and the grounds that lead right down to the water's edge are great. And we did have a laugh too. At the well intentioned nightly entertainment in the bar, at the way the description of food on the menu bore little relation to... more
A Rainy Weekend
I read the earlier reviews and felt I wanted to cancel my holiday. Thank goodness I didn't. From the moment of arrival, when we were greeted by the manager, there was an air of friendliness about the place. All the staff seened pleased to see guests and did all they could to ensure their stay was a pleasant one. The dining room service was something I have experienced only once or twice. The place settings were immaculate and there was even a jug of iced water on the table. The food was excellent and well presented. Portions were... more
