We just got back from the Danaos apartments in Crete, and we all agreed that it was well worth the money.
The apartments are always kept clean and there is no need to worry about no air conditioning as you can rent fans for however long you are staying. The sofas in the apartments can be changed into a bed and you are supplied with two beds in each room.
The bar is nice and there is a large variety of drinks and food for you to choose from. The pool is nice and cold and is quite deep but not so that you can’t stand up. The beach is extremely close to the pool, you literally walk down the stairs from the pool itself and you are on the beach.
Katrina and Costas are very welcoming and they hold Greek nights every Saturday.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed staying at the apartments and hope to visit again in the future. It is well worth the money.
But there is one thing that I need to warn people about, when walking down the steps to the pool, please walk slowly as the top step is usually wet and slippery, my little sister fell down them and badly bruised her back, so please be careful with small children. Apart form that, it is a very nice apartment block.

Just returned from a holiday at the Danaos apartments just outside Rethymnon, with our 9 yr old son.
The "resort" is quite quiet, but 5 minutes down the road is Adeleanos Campos,(where we stayed 12 years ago) which has a lot more nightlife, if that is what you want. Within Sfkaki there are 3 or 4 tavernas which tend to be a bit quiet. There is a supermarket of sorts which lacks a lot of the bare essentials, you are better making the ten minute walk to Stavros where there is a selection of three or four supermarkets.
Having been to various Greek islands over the last fifteen years we would say that the Danaos apartments are some of the best we have come across, the rooms are spacious and although you still get the basics they are spotlessly clean. The beach is literally on the doorstep and again is one of the cleaner ones we have come across. There is a small swimming pool for cooling off, although sometimes it was warm enough to take your sponge and soap in with you.
The owner, Costas and his wife Katerina (who is expecting twins in Dec) could not have been more welcoming and friendly. Costas has the inevitable Greek night every Saturday where for 15 euros per person (children go free) you get a great selection of locally cooked meals and then as much wine (local) and Raki as you can drink and of course you can show off your Greek dancing skills, but beware! Sundays are not good, I've been there.
There were a lot of families at the apartments which was great for Craig, as he had plenty of pals. There were also people who used this as a base to explore the rest of the island, because of its location.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed the two weeks we had at the Danaos and would certainly return sooner rather than later, as I suspect this little village will not remain little for long.
Ps: Hello to the other members of the magnificent seven if you are reading this, Wes, Nicola, Debbie and wee Amber, thoroughly enjoyed your company, not forgetting Peter( Fred) too.

Stayed at the Danaos Studios/Apartments at the beginning of June 2006.
We'd got a cheap holiday off the internet and didn't really know what to expect for the price we paid.
The apartments were fantastic, the best I have ever stayed in. Really clean, well equipped and nicely laid out.
The owners Costa’s and Katerina organised a fantastic Greek night every Saturday (lots of food, free wine and Raki). Best night ever, very hung over the next morning.
Rethynmon was about an hour away on the local bus (bus tickets available from the local supermarket), the centre is nice with some lovely shops and tavernas. We got a taxi back to the apartments for around 10euros.
15 mins away on the local bus is Platenos (not sure if I've spelt that right!). That's a nice strip of bars, tavernas, English bars, karaoke etc. Went there a few time.
Close to the apartments are a couple of nice tavernas, snacks from the pool bar are really cheap though.
If you turn left out of the apartments and walk for about 15mins, there's a lovely taverna called Elevern. Perfect to watch the sun go down with some lovely local cuisine.
All in all, a lovely holiday. Nice and relaxing.
Would probably hire a car if going for 2 weeks to make most of the sites.

The Danaos apartments are lovingly cared for by Costas and Katerina who are wonderful and welcoming hosts. Our room was probably the best studio we have ever had with a beautiful sea view (sunsets included), very well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. There are three very good Tavernas less than five minutes away and a supermarket for holiday essentials. Katerina does a lovely Greek food night every week and Costas provides the dancing and drinks!! A fairly quiet location but the bus service to and from Rethymnon is frequent with three buses per hour until midnight, and connections to Chania or Heraklion. Plenty of car and motorbike hire shops plus a further selection of Tavernas and shops are just a couple of miles away in Platanias, so there's no need to worry about convenience or transport. This is a great place to stay if you want a relaxing base with the option to explore at your own pace, either on package trips or with your own transport.

We have been going to Danaos twice a year for the last 5 years. After visiting most of the Greek islands, Crete is our favourite and the people are wonderful!
Danaos has everything we need as well as that spectacular view and sunset, and Katerina and Costas could not be more helpful. It is a short bus ride into the resort of Platanias where there are dozens of tavernas and shops, or Rethymnon town is a further ride away at 11km.
To really see Crete at its best you need to hire a car and get up into the mountains to see the traditional villages or to go to Elefonisi on the SW coast. This is like a tropical beach where the fish swim around your feet as you are walking into the water. Total nirvana!

The studio was completely acceptable. Magnificent view from balcony looking over the sea. Friendly and helpful owners in fact this applies to the majority of Cretans! Weather for this time of year was great.
In fact I couldn’t fault the holiday at all. Area not really suitable for the "clubbing" sort of people but a bus service (very cheap 1.50Euros one way) to Rethymnon which is about 11 km away. 3 tavernas within 2 mins of apartments nothing great but acceptable and a meal for about 5 Euros.
You have to go on the jeep safari the best holiday trip I have ever been on and well worth the money. All in all I would go back to Rethymnon and to the Danaos apartments.

We returned from the Danaos Apartments this morning. We arrived in the middle of the night and of course went straight to our bed. Next morning when unpacking we had the previous occupants leftovers in drawers, flip flops, dirty clothes and paperwork. Room wasn't cleaned all week and no mop or cloths to do it ourselves.
Greek night was 8 people, CD of Greek music and the extended Greek family dancing half a dance. To top it all my husband had food poisoning from the kebabs.
Interconnecting doors on balconies were not locked and we had someone boasting of what he had stolen from shops since being in Crete. We will be writing to Manos to say we feel these connecting balcony doors should be locked unless families have the rooms.
We would return to Crete but not the Danaos. I know this does not fit with other descriptions posted but this was our experience.
