We booked for one week on Alonissos and our second at the Dionyssos Hotel in Skopelos Town. Our transfer from Alonissos was by the quick and efficient flying boat service, which runs daily between the islands (approx 45 mins).
The Hotel is the best accommodation that we have stayed in on Greece but to be fair all others have been apartment complex rather than a hotel.
The room although quite small was comfortable and well maintained and cleaned to a very good standard on a daily basis. The hotel itself is well run and caters for a range of nationalities. Breakfast was a small and simple affair with fresh baked bread (why does it taste so much better abroad ?), hams and cheese as well as eggs bacon and sausage although please do not expect this to be as we would have it in the uk. There were people in the hotel that commented that it was not like we get at home but we felt this more than a little churlish, if you want a good English breakfast go to a good B&B in England.
The pool area is spacious and clean (The best we have experienced in Greece) and the bar serves a good range of snacks and drinks all day, from sandwiches to a full three course meal. We sampled the food on two occasions a burger with chips and trimmings one afternoon, we wanted a light snack but got half a cow in a bun with bacon and cheese to boot, very nice but we were unable to move for the rest of the afternoon after that lot. The second was a full evening meal and was of a more than satisfactory standard. Only one small complaint, as it was end of season the full menu was not available, I had been looking forward to a nice steak but had to make do with the delicious local prawns instead.
The bar itself is run by hotel staff who are friendly and attentive, be warned though if Rudi is on duty he will play nothing but rock music, don't let this put you off though he is one of the nicest and most intelligent guys you will meet and he does not play anything too heavy. If you like Marilyn, UFO, Jethro Tull and that type of music he will talk to you for hours.
The hotel is situated a short walk away from the bustling port with its many bars and restaurants, you could stay for much longer than a week and still not have time to sample them all.
The island itself is a picture and probably the greenest that we have been to with some lovely scenery and beaches and the hotel an ideal base from which to explore.
The biggest recommendation that we could give is that quite a few of the people we met there have returned year after year and given the time to do so we would too, but there are so many other places to visit.
