Overall a brilliant holiday for myself and my family. The hotel was as expected but we were dissapointed with the rooms, they badly needed a re-furb and were very battered and tired looking. The food was excellent with an amazing variety morning noon and evening. Nothing... more

Cheap and Cheerful - Not a 4 Star!
Just returned 28 th Oct after 2 weeks at Cayo Coco & Cayo Guillermo. For all those people that are looking for a reasonable all inclusive family hotel, I would say that this is an ideal place to stay. But for couples that are looking for something special, I would say definitely NOT! In our case we were very disappointed and expected alot more from this 4 star resort, having read all the good reviews both on the internet and here in Spain! The hotel itself is pleasant and the grounds are kept nice, however, the rest was a disaster and we decided to move to the 5 Star Melia next door the following day. There was just no comparison, and it wasn't much more! For us it was just one bad thing after another! Upon arrival we were told that the bell boy would take our luggage to the room and after waiting 2 hours we found out that the bell boy was ill and that the gardener would be taking them to our room! In the end we decided to collect them ourselves, as they had been left in the middle of the reception area. The hotel itself was extremely dirty and the staff didn't seem to worry too much and the food was not good at all! It took us a long time to even get the waiters to bring us anything! Our bedroom was very worn, the curtains were torn and hanging off the rails, the cupboards were horrific and the mattresses were terrible to sleep on! We were not given pillow cases, the sheets were dirty and there were hairs left in the bath. There was also a funny smell to the room, which didn't go away either. All in all I must say that it was a let down and maybe it was just a bit of bad luck, but for those that are looking for quality in this beautiful paradise - stick to the Melia 5 Star chain!
This is not a (4) four star hotel
Contrary to what many publications lead you to believe, this is not a four star hotel by North American or European standards. This should be rectified by tour operators or specified as Cuban rating. Forget about trying to get your room changed, it didn't work for me. The young athletic directors have a tendancy to show off their talents instead of letting the guests enjoy themselves. Tipping is vital or you may be ignored for service. Seafood is king, good beef rare. Beach towels very rare. Floors and stairs very slippery when wet. Night entertainment for adults very poor, mostly amateur comedy. The grounds are fairly nice with tropical vegetation, the beach has lots of washed up dead seaweed. The airport is very clean.
Paradise
my wife and i have just come back from this hotel and so i thought i would take five minutes to share our experiences. prior to going to Cuba and indeed the Daiquri hotel i read all of the feedbacks posted and my opinion was excited but a tiny bit dubious of the accomodation. as soon as we arrived to a welcoming comitee my fears were gone. our cases arrived in our block within 10 minutes and our holiday started. the beach and sea were beautiful, this was the first time either my wife or i have been to the carribean and when we saw the white sands and crystal waters we were hooked. the choice of food at the hotel was good as i enjoy meat (a couple we met on holidays had a vegertarian in their party but she said the choice was adequate) all of the food was served hot and you could go back and for as often as you liked. we only went to the entertaiment venue twice during our stay and this was okay but not excellent, to be honest it was nice just sitting having a drink with freinds that we met there. the staff throughout this hotel were exceptional, they were constantly smiling and were genuinley happy to help you at any time. i found the reception, the lobby bar & the pool bar staff very enthusiastic about their jobs. we went on two organised trips and one speed boat trip from the beach. all of the trips without exception were excellent. the speed boat took us out around 1 mile and droppoed us off snorkelling it cost $10 per person for around 1 hour and the fish were excellent. the next trip was to Havvana, this trip cost around $350 for the two of us but was worth it. the only one thing to comment about in Havvana is the begging it gets a bit tiring. the final trip we did was the jungle tour, this cost around $80 for the two of us and i got the chance to drive a two man speed boat it was superb as you could go at full speed in a controlled array. you may sometimes find it difficult to get a place on the beach with some shade we found the easisest way was to tip Danny the sunbed guy and he always kept you a place and look out for your bags whilst you were in the sea. our thomas cook rep Felix was superb (and thats coming from an ex holiday rep like me). all in all as i used for the title of this review "Paradise" this place was truly magnificent and i cannot wait until they sell properties on the Cayos as we want to buy one. enjoy your holiday the place is safe and tranquil. god i`m jealous.
excellent hotel and staff
I am 17 and in March, 2003, I went on a week long vacation to the Iberostar Daquiri with a friend my age and my mother. This was my second trip to Cuba in 3 years, and it was definitely the better of the two. First of all, the hotel itself was great, very appealing, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was good, the beds were not that comfortable, but they were always very clean and nothing was stolen. We left gifts for the maid every day, not just money, because there is a lot they can't buy in Cuba. (they love candy, perfumes, makeup, lingerie, luxury items...). The selection on TV was limited, but it wasn't an issue since we hardly turned it on, we were not in Cuba to watch TV! The pool was nice, but they had a limited number of beach chairs and you had to get up very early to claim a few chairs. There was a rumour that guests were paying the staff to secure them chairs by the pool, hmm shady. They had umbrellas to keep you cool (because it got HOT around noon), and waitors came around so you could order drinks. One day a man came around with a wheelbarrow full of coconuts, took out his machete, chopped off the top of one, added rum and ice, and served it to us with straws. It was a very nice environment around the pool. Every day they had various activities like pool volleyball, minigolf, bowling, ping pong, archery, etc., and whoever won them would get a certificate that night-very cute, my friend and I won bowling and minigolf! They also had pool aerobics, a basketball net by the pool, and a swimup bar. I would just like to stress that the entire staff was wonderful, the entertainment staff was so friendly and funny, the waiters were always nice and helpful, and the maids were courteous. We only spend one day on the lovely beach, mainly because it was even harder to get chairs on the beach than by the pool, and we were sick of sand up our bathing suits. It was a nice beach with grassy patches that kept you secluded if you wanted to be, although it was not overly wide. The food was alright, you can't expect excellent food in Cuba. The buffet had a good selection of fruits, breads, etc., there was always something for everyone. It was not impeccable food, but not horrible. The waiters were great though, very personable. We mostly ate at the buffet. They also had a beach bar which we went to a few times, and 2 restaurants which were alright. All three of us ended up with indigestion at some point or another, so bring pepto bismol or something. The nightly entertainment was excellent, VERY funny, very entertaining. They even impersonated and lipsynched to lady marmalade, prince, etc. It was well worth it. However, they did not have a disco, and being teenagers we found that after the show there was not much to do so we often headed to bed. The population of the resort was mostly older guests, not many children or teenagers at all.I would like to note that bugs were not a problem at all, they sprayed every day and we didn't get any bites.Overall I would rate the vacation 8.5/10, it is a wonderful resort.
Honeymooners paradise!
My partner and myself spent two weeks at the iberostar, late August for our honeymoon, this was our first visit to cuba. The staff were very helpful and polite, there was a lot of variety with the food in terms of Mexican, Cuban and International food e.g burgers and chips. The Hotel room was clean, in terms of fresh towels, bottled water and a clean bathroom. No problems with the air conditioning, which meant the room stayed cool. Being on the honeymoon package was excellent in terms of having: A free bottle of champagne, massage, romantic ride in a horse and cart which gave us the opportunity of seeing the other hotels in the area. To tell you the truth the hotel Guilliermo 5* hotel was nothing special the only extra thing was the jacuzi, where only 3 to 4 people could fit. The beach was exceptional, in terms of beautiful clear water and white sands. Plenty of sunbeds!Plenty to do! Recommend the jungle tour and overnight stay at Havana (the tropicana show was excellent). Swimming with the dolphins was great too.Complaints:The mosquitos were a pain we took repellent but the mosquitos seem to eat that too. The Hotel did have these machines which were used early in the morning at 6:30am and late at night 11:30pm.Not much of a night life, the theatre shows were brilliant but that was over by 11:45pm, nothing else much to do, but i came to this resort for peace and quiet. The suit cases when its time to depart from the hotel need to be left outside of your room. We were not told of this which can delay time for your luggage to arrive at the hotel reception.Overall great place and would definately coming back again! Planning to go back in a few years! Definately recommend it for families and honeymooners!
it was the time of my life!
Iberostar Daiquiri is the best ever hotel i have ever been to in my life the entertainment was great, the people were great,I loved it so much i didnt want to come home.I am planning on going back in a couple of years. It was amazing!
Definitely worth it!
Our trip to Cuba was amazing! We had such a great time. The Iberostar is a great hotel and has the most beautiful grounds. Of the other hotels we had the chance to visit, both myself and my friend agreed, that we booked the best property. The only thing that we could say that could use some improvement would be the hotel rooms. The beds are average but the pillows are not comfortable. If you like a soft pillow think of packing your own. They have only one per bed and they are very flat. Found it very hard to have a restful sleep on them. The food was pretty good and they had a large selection. Wish that they could mark what the dishes were...they only did this on one night that we were there. The a la carte restaurants were good. My favorite is the Mexican. Definitely go on tours during your stay...We did the Jungle tour ($39 US) and The Sugar Express tour. We had a fabulous time on both of them. Don't forget to bring some extra pens, pads of paper, candies (we had lollipops) to hand out if you go into the towns. A couple of us on our tour bus got off and handed things out to the children that were passing by. They really appreciated it! We even left some of the school supplies at the local library. Cuba is definitely a place we plan to return....
we love cuba!!
hiya, just the most amazing holiday we have ever been on i enjoyed every minute of it.i was a bit wary of going at first as i was travelling on my own with my three young sons.but i needed have worried the people there are the friendliest ever and they seem to be always smiling.the hotel was beautiful, very clean, food delicious, although needs to be more basic for kids( chicken nuggets and such like).because the kids were so entertained everyday and late in to the evening i was able to enjoy my holiday.the kids reps were wonderful they seem to enjoy being with the children especially Marlon and Louis, the pair of them are both hysterically funny i loved them so did everyone else.but saying that all the staff even down to the gardeners were very friendly. the excursions were very good we especially enjoyed swimming with the dolphins although it was a very long day we got picked up at hotel at 6.30am we only got to swim with them for 20mins and it was with a group of 12 which for just over £400 i thought was a bit expensive as the rest of the day was dragged out until your flight at 7.00pm.colourful cuba is worth doing you get to see a bit more into the cuban way of life. we also did the jungle tour which was brilliant as you drove your own speed boat(book at reception though as it is cheaper than the tour operaters)then you went snorkiling which was great fun but as the guide was feeding the fish they thought my false nails was bread an a not so cute puffer fish bit my finger which required three stitches.but this still didnt stop me from snorkiling at the coral reef!! so all in all well worth going to this resort i have already booked for next year and i have only been back a week.
Best vacation ever!
I love this place! It's amazing! Oh, the guys! All the entertainers are so friendly. They call you by name and everyone feels like part of the action. There are so many great activities and sports to suit any intrests. It's fun but not too busy. Just right! The kid's program is super too. They are entertained, but they're not pushed away from everyone else. They get to be part of the action too and are always accessable by the parents. The best part by far is the night shows. Every evening there's a fun show including music and dance. The guys always call you up to dance with them and it's really super. I danced with this one really hot guy twice! They know like every language on earth and can make anyone feel at home. I speak serbo-croation and many of the people had learned some of it to speak with me. The service is brilliant too. The food, maid service, waiters are all superb. Every day they get more and more creative. Oh, the musicians are so talented. I just can't get enough. I can't live away from this place! I've got to go back as soon as I can. I'm thinking about Damien, Miguel, Marlon, all the time. The only bad part of the trip was when I had to leave. I can't wait for my next trip to Iberostar Daiquiri and I don't want to go anywhere else. This was definately the best vacation ever!
Don't Believe it!
Having spent two wonderfull weeks at the iberostar, late June, early July 2003, I am amazed at the negative reports I have read. The staff are wonderful (look in the mirror if you found otherwise). Yes you could buy anything black market, is this so bad? The mosquitos are like all in the caribbean, not as bad as Italy! (Use repellent if a problem). The food was exceptional, and in abundance, spoilt for choice, check the scales when returning home. The beaches are world beaters, the sea likewise. We smiled at the staff and believe it or not they smiled back, every time, and were polite and helpful. we didnt tip until the second week so money wasn't their prime motive. Les miserables please stay away, the rest have a great time. J & K
