In general, I find this hotel to be ok, but not fantastic.
The good things:
-the buffet was fresh, a lot of variety of seafood and fish and also vegetarian plates
-the beach was amazing
-the cleaning of the room was good and in overall the personnel was good
-I did an excursion to see the corals (caraux in French) that was fantastic. It cost 75 pesos per person.
Things that need improvement:
- I had 2 bikinis that were stolen on the terraces, and the guest service did not do anything about it.
- The Cuban restaurant was really bad
- We were a group of 3 rooms. Some of the room did had hot water for a couple of days and hot water was cut without any advertisement during our trip
- Rooms smelt the humidity.

I can honestly say this is the worst holiday and worst hotel we have ever visited. There was myself, husband and 10 year old son and we all hated it so much we wanted to come home by the end of the first week. The hotel was very dirty and damp - we changed rooms four times in the two weeks we were there. It is the first holiday we have ever been on that we have found it necessary to complain to the management and holiday rep. Not that it made any difference.
The food was awful - the same every day and very, very salty. My son lived on bags of crisps from the shop for the first 3 days of the holiday and he will eat anything. You knew what would be for breakfast and sometimes lunch as it was the left overs from the night before. Keep away from the beach restaurant as nothing is covered over and flies are all over the food.
Entertainment staff could not be bothered with any activities through the day. Nothing was on for the first week, although by the second week of our holidays some very official looking people turned up and all of a sudden daytime activities were on and even food got a little bit better.
My son had to visit the on site doctor three times during our stay as he stood on some glass/tile in the pool and had to have it removed and then got a ear infection. Cost us a fortune.
The waiting staff and cleaners etc only wanted money from you and tried selling cigars etc. Money was taken from our room. The entertainment staff come night time only wanted to hang around the bar after their performance so you could supply them with alcohol.
I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. It was two weeks of hell and has put me off visiting Cuba ever again. It was a holiday we were most looking forward to and was a nightmare from start to finish.

Well from reading others reviews before I went I was a bit sceptical as to whether it would be ok.... but it was FANTASTIC! I can see how some people may complain about a few things yet to be honest none of the things bothered me at all.
We went as a family of 4, and I think this hotel would fair equally as good for anyone, family or couple.
Food: from reading others’ reviews they seem to have a problem with the food. I would probably say it was the thing you could complain about the most but you really don't have to be picky. The selection although nearly the same each day, proved so large it didn't really matter as you had enough combinations to last 2 weeks.
Rooms: we had no problems... cleanliness was brilliant, the cleaners work so hard. We had no problems with hot water or damp. I agree with some bins at the end not being cleaned out but they’re nowhere near your room, nothing to worry about.
Entertainment: well best advice..... get involved straight away. We didn't until the second week which is my biggest regret. They do appear to be lazy when you don't know them but when they start to recognise you, you become very friendly. The evening entertainment was amazing... some of their shows are like broadway musicals and stay for the disco afterwards it’s worth it, you get to know them more as well that way.
Staff: they are all very friendly, and I think enjoy their work.
Pool/Beach: again some bad reviews for these but I don’t know what they’re on about! The beach is beautiful; the pool yes has a few tiles missing but nothing dangerous and faired a good size.
One last thing, when we left in a couple of weeks they were closing for 3 months for refurbishment, so when we went everything was dying down, yet the whole family didn't want to go home. If this happened when they weren't at their best then I would love to go back when its all done up it would be even better :)
Hope everyone else has as much fun as we did, and don't listen to the other reviews!!

Stayed at this hotel in March 06 on arrival at hotel. We were given keys to room and our luggage soon arrived at our room everybody was really nice and helpful food was good plenty of choice, Mexican was not worth the bother.
Lunch in the beach restaurant made a nice change from the buffet which seemed to get busy in the afternoon beach was the best we have seen in the Caribbean although a little narrow when the tide was in if you could call it tidal.
Pool was good. Lobby bar was great to meet people and the staff were fantastic. It didn’t matter if you tipped or not the service was brilliant. We went to Cayo Coco in 04 and this was miles better.
I went on this holiday with my wife and another couple and we thought this hotel was far superior to most we have stayed in the Caribbean for the money we paid if you like fishing you can fish from the Melia jetty. We liked it so much were back again in November hopefully to catch some fish.

Having just returned from my holiday in Cayo Guillermo celebrating my honeymoon, where we stayed at the Iberostar Daiquiri, all I can say is we had a fabulous time.
Weather was fantastic, beach and sea absolutely gorgeous (very shallow and not very tidal) so excellent for those with kids or those who are not good swimmers. Rooms - quite basic but very clean, food - loads of choice something for everybody, Cuban restaurant - good selection of fish and very generous, staff couldn't do enough for you and spoke perfect English all in all great value for money.
We went to Havana overnight - well worth the money, very safe too.
Excellent for those wanting a relaxing holiday as the island is very remote, however the hotel does provide entertainment every night.

Just returned from a rather tired and worn out hotel. The rooms smell and are damp.
We had no hot water for 4 days which we reported several times to no-avail. Tiles missing from floor of swimming pools and surrounding area's making it dangerous underfoot. Food ok but nothing special, everybody wants a tip. Animation team lazy don’t seem bothered with daytime activities.
Only plus that it’s got a fantastic location set right on the beach.
Having said all that we all enjoyed our stay on Cayo Guillermo and had a great holiday, but would not return to this hotel.

We first went to this hotel in Aug 03, and thought it was excellent clean friendly food at high standard, so booked to return Sept 05.
What a disaster the hotel was dirty, food had gone right down and it was the same food every day, the entertainment (day & night) was the same as two yrs earlier, so we all got bored very quickly, and there’s nothing else to do on a night.
This hotel is definitely not a 4* the food was very poorly presented, the grounds dirty (I actually found a dead rat in the gardens and reported it to the reception, it was still there the following day, it only got removed when i went and got a gardener).
On a good note the entertainment & bar staff were friendly to us and our kids, i would not recommend this hotel to anyone, it is the worst hotel we have stayed in, in the Caribbean.

We stayed at this hotel for a 2 week period during August, we were very disappointed from the moment we were shown to our room, smell of dampness, not cleaned properly, dead bugs in wardrobe, black mould around bath, general decor very poor. We were given the choice of another room but this was not much better but it was a bit bigger, air conditioning not adequate enough.
FOOD....DREADFULL.(buffet style) same food served throughout the day, very poorly presented, hot food not kept hot, cold food not kept cold, cheese counter not chilled at all!!! Therefore cheese sweating and curling. Plates not cleaned, cups with old stains on them, saucers chipped. No air conditioning in the restaurant, in fact no air conditioning anywhere in the hotel, sitting in the reception bar in the evening was almost unbearable due to mosquitoes.
HYGIENE : is probably the worst we have come across in all our travels throughout the Caribbean.(take plenty of dioralyte)
BEACH & POOL: beach is a very narrow until the tide goes out, watersports are limited, kayaks and pedaloes, staff on beach not particularly friendly. Pool is very small for the size of the hotel.
The corridors to our room were often littered with dirty plates, cups, glasses and these were not removed for several days.
All in all we cannot possibly understand how this hotel manages to market itself as a 4 star property, in our opinion it would struggle to make 3 stars.
Our opinion.... LOOK AROUND AND BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE.
GOOD POINTS: Garden staff very friendly.

I was on holiday here from 10/08/05-24/08/05 and it was absolutely fantastic!!!!! I went there with my little boy age 6 and my niece age 16. The only thing i would say about this resort is maybe the rooms could of had a lick of paint to freshen them up but seeing as you only sleep in there it wasn’t a problem. The food was plenty and lots to choose from, from brekkie to supper.
If you like a lazy holiday tanning yourself doing nothing then this is a good place and if you like lots to do then this is a good place for you also. The entertainment staff [star friends] are absolutely fantastic. they work really hard throughout the day and then of an evening put on fantastic shows. My niece had a fantastic holiday and so did my son.
There was a kids club there and the lady done such a great job that all the 12-15 year olds got involved. Have you ever seen that before because I haven’t and I've done a bit of travelling. the sea is like a bath, lovely and safe for youngsters. the beach is great. the service around the hotel is great nothing is to much bother. We met such a lot of really nice people English Welsh Scottish Canadians Italians.
I even had my lunch with all the managers 1 afternoon!!!! The weather was very kind to us only rained for approx 20 mins 1 afternoon. what else can I say the staff J.C., Radai, Louis, yoel, a guy we nicknamed Blondie [curtain style haircut] to name but a few are absolutely blinding. then there is the waitress around the pool called itza who is so lovely.
I have been Europe and Caribbean [3 times] and this was the best place I have ever been to lovely and safe also, we will definitely be going back next year!!!!! I really cant see how anyone in there right minds can slate this place of. if they want this that and the other then pay more money and go to maybe a sandals resort!!!!!!!!

Poor holiday destination.
Having told Thomas Cook what we were after (sun, sea, sand, lots to see and do, nice resort, honeymoon packages, local amenities) they came up with this resort for us. And I wish they hadn’t bothered.
We had no honeymoon package awaiting us and, when we told the resort, they gave us a booking for the Mexican restaurant (everyone can have this), a plate with two pieces of melon on (supposed to be a fruit basket) and two t-shirts. They could not give us a double bed though!
Corridors of the resort were lined with empty plates for days on end, beds resting against the walls, dirty towels.
The room had dead bugs splattered around that weren’t cleaned up by hotel staff although they did our room daily (apart from the third to last day after we complained!) I had blood on a pillow and blood on the ceiling of the bathroom.
The entertainment was lousy and brief - it was NOT romantic for honeymooners and couples with children even stated they found it hard to keep their kids entertained.
We tried to make use of the inclusive watersports but were expected to tip first! No thanks. I will tip when I get good service - not before I get any service!
We tried to book the VIP lounge on the way back but was told it was fully booked. On the last day we witnessed back handers being taken by the rep (this has been reported) and he managed to get those people in!
The gardeners are the only friendly staff there who frequently made little animals out of palm tree leaves as well as little hats! They also gave away coconuts for people around the pool and beach.
Service from other staff is poor and we were not alone in thinking this. Dinner time is a buffet of the same food through out the day and it's a Queue up and get it yourself job. Our plates were not cleaned up between courses so we were sat with a crowded table and we had to get our own drinks. The resort was not especially busy!
The pools are noisy with kids playing with the two balls the resort has to offer and there is no real space to have a swim.
The sea is the best thing about this resort. I have never been in such inviting waters. Crystal blue and warm.
The only air conditioning is in your hotel room. Everyone else gets very hot and very hard to cope with - there is no escaping it.
There are no romantic places couples can go and everything seems to turn into a ghost town in the evening.
Save your money and do not go. Thankfully we took pictures as evidence and are going to try and book a second honeymoon - one with a little romance and organisation skills!!

Cayo Coco is blessed with an amazing coral reef. Snorkelling is a must and the fantastic array of marine life is simply breathtaking! One tip I will share is - take some bread with you and walk out a few yards into the sea. You will attract all kinds of fish and I managed to see some really peculiar bottle nosed fish. I can only describe the sea as turquoise perfection, which shimmers so brilliantly it is truly mesmerising. The stretch of white sandy beach is also magnificent and is scattered with countless palm trees.
The accommodation is very good, with spacious rooms. All have air conditioning and we were lucky to have a balcony with a sea view!
It is the perfect location for getting away from it all. The purity and tranquillity of the island seems to embrace you with open arms and you can’t help but fall in love with it. The same can be said about the Cuban people (reps), who, despite the hardship, are the warmest and friendliest people you will meet. The entertainment, especially the dancing, is of a high standard and there are a variety of sports activities like archery, canoeing, volleyball available to keep you entertained. The food at the Iberostar Daiquiri is excellent and you get fresh seafood and roast piglet, beef and lamb on most days. There is a wide choice of food on offer that will cater for all tastes.
It is funny, but it is sometimes the simplest things that can make a holiday memorable and mine has to be sitting on the beach staring out at the blue-green horizon, eating a coconut, which tasted so divine, I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.

Had a good relaxing holiday the weather was very hot and humid only rained once during the day and only for about an hour.
The room was very clean and the maid changed towels and sheets everyday. We tipped her halfway through our stay as well as the end and had no complaints.
The food was good with plenty of choice, the main restaurant was help yourself as much as you like. The Cuban and the Mexican had a decent choice and good service too.
The beach was lovely but a few people liked to play the towel game with sun beds.
The entertainment staff work very hard and as with all the staff they get little pay.
